Hero of the day
Villain of the day
Best match of the day
Worst match of the day
Shot of the day
Quote of the day

An early contender for quote of the day is this from Roddick, on Federer...

"We've been stuck in a locker room nine hours a day and he's been chilling out taking the double-decker red bus thing tour."

Andy, I'm not a fan of your style of play, but I love you for your quotes...

Poor Andy! roflmao

I wonder if we will have much play to talk about Mr I. Looks like rain is se to disrupt most of the day.

Awards have to go to Justine and Venus who both played superbly-esp Venus who never put a foot wrong throughout the match-both must be admired for their workmanlike attitude.

I'm finding Serena's drama queen act more and more irritating, other players seem to get on with the job without controversy.
She must lose some weight or she's gonna keep getting the injuries, you can't carry that load and not have it affect your physical condition.

I'm not a Sharapova fan at all, but she seemed gracious in defeat and came over very well in the post match BBC interview.

Roddick looked in awesome form, and he does come across as a nice guy too.

SuperBRAT - July 4, 2007 11:32 PM (GMT)
Heroes of the day: Alex Bogdanovic and Mel South, th eBritish no hopers who only went and knocked out number one seeds Mike Bryan and Lisa Raymond. Doesn't get much better than that!

Villain of the day: Serena. I gave her the benefit of the doubt over her injury against Hantuchova, but she showed a lack of respect to Henin, after the match, claiming she'd have beaten her if she'd not been injured.

Shot of the day: an angled forehand passing shot Nadal did against Soderling.

Serena also said of Stich 'My career is actually more stellar than Stich's, so he can say whatever he pleases'
so the arrogance pills must really be taking effect.

Perhaps Stich and Serena ought to have a 3 setter to sort this out :D

liam_valid - July 5, 2007 03:56 PM (GMT)
at least she says what shes thinking, i cant stand press conferences where they are obviously lying through their teeth just to appear diplomatic. Momos press conference the other day was awesome :D

She gave more respect to Henin than in her FO interview. And she's right if she was at 100% she more than likely would have beaten her. If she can take a set off her with a sprained wrist that didn't allow to hit her backhand properly and impaired movement god help if she's fully healthy. Even Henin admitted that Serena gave her a lot more time to hit her backhand than she normally does. I don't think it's very good from Henin's point of view that she couldn't close out Serena in two. Henin is the world number one and at the pinnacle of her career, I was definitely expecting her to win in two.

As for Stitch thats just funny imo  , the backlash for the Hantuchova match was OTT, and unfortunately Stitch felt the full force of Serena's wrath on behalf of everyone.

I know it's only a bit of fun btw but I think Serena should get hero of the day for going out and playing at all.

Link to where Henin said that please?

So it had nothing to do with the court being slower then?

Yes I loved Momos :D

You are right about Serena, btu I do think at times she should be slightly more gracious. It's not acceptable IMO to say you would have won easily of you were not injured. It takes credit from your opponent. Anyway I don't think she woudl have won if not injured.

No, nothing to do with that whatsoever.

Q. Your backhand is usually the shot you use to open up the court for your forehand. Today it seemed like your backhand was the more devastating weapon. Did Serena allow you to use your backhand today?

JUSTINE HENIN: Yeah, probably a little bit more. It was important for me to go down the line today. Sometimes I was going too fast down the line and I didn't take my time to really open the court and go down the line.

Tactically I did a couple mistakes sometimes in the match, but generally my forehand remains the shot I hit a lot of winners with. But today she gave me a lot of time on my backhand, that's true.

Did you think I was lying or something

Also from the same link/same interview.......

Q. Did you have to assume she was fully fit?

JUSTINE HENIN: Well, I didn't see that she had a lot of trouble to move. Maybe a little bit at the beginning of the match. After that, I think she could run pretty much, especially on the dropshots and everything. She served great.

;)

there was an interview with BJK the other day, and she was talking about how the sport relies on TV, the fans etc. and she said, "we are entertainers and what we say in the press room is as important as what we do on the court" i totally agree and think the players should wear their hearts on their sleeves more
