Title: Wednesday 4th July
SerenaW19 - July 4, 2007 11:55 AM (GMT)
Well I wouldn't be at all surprise to see both Williams sisters lose their matches today, if they are in fat played. Yet I do have a ray of hope. I will be unconscious tonight again anyway so I won't be bothered :P
Im really confused about Serena's injury, what is it? I've only seen clips of the match, she was obviously in pain and hampered, but then it seemed to get better, or was she just ignoring the pain?
Richard said it was a calf tear or something and that a doctor advised her not to play today, but that she is anyway, then he said he thinks she won't have any problems? But if she was that badly injured surely she would've withdrawn from he doubles by now. Seriously what is this man on, like we don't have enough people spewing crap already!
trisco - July 4, 2007 12:00 PM (GMT)
C'mon Maria & Serena....
I'm a little torn between Serena and Henin, I normally would root for Serena but I am warming to Henin.. would like possibly to see her win all four slams...
But... Serena to win...

It's the usual b*ll*cks from the man, the same man who first harshly said Venus should just give up on tennis after losing to Jankovic at RG and then the next day tried to claim her loss was simply due to a knee injury of some sort. To call him a loose cannon would be kind. Still I don't question his devotion to his daughters or his role in fulfilling their promise, so....
Tournament doctor said something to the effect of calf strain. That's something that can quickly exacerbate itself into something worse (whereas simple cramping just goes away on its own), so if Serena is really going to go through with this I hope she knows what she's doing. She's finally fit and playing regularly and to have to miss the US hard courts (where surely she will be in the business end of several events including the USO itself) now would be a shame. But, yeah, if it were an actual tear she'd be in Florida already you would think.
If Serena does play I hope she can complete the match. Still not withdrawn from the doubles, unbelievably, but perhaps she's hedging her bets - if her singles campaign ends today she can focus on that and it's less demanding on movement.
Lex - July 4, 2007 12:31 PM (GMT)
Maria is struggling with her serve today. Just lost a game serving 4 doubles :o
She's got less than 50% of her first serves in
Scotsguy - July 4, 2007 12:32 PM (GMT)
F***, I knew Maria would be more disadvantaged with the wind than Venus, but still.....
Ever since they announced that there would be no roof on centre,it was pretty obvious MAria would struggle...
Manzikert - July 4, 2007 12:36 PM (GMT)
Well we knew it would be a serving contest, but Sharapova has been so solid on that front this past week (a contrast from her recent struggles) whilst Venus as we know threw in 14 DFs against Morigami. Bit of a role reversal today and at 4-1 0-30 on the Russian's serve it looks like Venus may cruise through this set.
Sure enough she's broken and will serve for it 5-1. Well well well. Of course Venus also took the first set handily in Miami so it's early days yet.
trisco - July 4, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
Venus always look llike a diff player to previous rounds whenever she steps up to play Maria, her footwork and every aspect are a world away from her previous rounds..
Godammit..
Lex - July 4, 2007 12:39 PM (GMT)
5-1 Venus serving for 1st set
:o
Lex - July 4, 2007 12:41 PM (GMT)
1st set to Venus 6-1 33 mins
Venus is playing well, but Maria is struggling big time
trisco - July 4, 2007 12:42 PM (GMT)
Sit down Richard you bolshy ass..
Manzikert - July 4, 2007 12:42 PM (GMT)
Venus takes it 6-1. Can't ask for a much better start than that. Perhaps she will have a chance to draw even in her H2H against Kuznetsova. :P
Of course counting out Sharapova at any stage is always a foolhardy thing to do, as Schnyder can tell you.
Manzikert - July 4, 2007 12:44 PM (GMT)
Meanwhile Krajicek has been putting in a solid performance against Bartoli thus far in a match-up of surprise quarterfinalists. She leads 5-2.

Well, yes, but Venus ain't Schnyder, especially when playing Sharapova.
chetanpv - July 4, 2007 12:47 PM (GMT)
Richard Krajicek's sister?? No wonder she is doing well.
Buttercup - July 4, 2007 12:51 PM (GMT)
woohoo Vee!!!!! :D
dunno what im cheering for, the winner faces Sveta
Lex - July 4, 2007 12:56 PM (GMT)
OMG they're both screaming now
FFS what is it with women's tennis these days
Manzikert - July 4, 2007 12:58 PM (GMT)
Bartoli manages to fend off several set points, including one that came on her own service game, but Krajicek makes good on her fifth to wrap up the first 6-3. The Dutch teen is looking very sharp this past week and continues to do so. Bartoli meanwhile is just a tad flat and I think her oft-interrupted three-set grinding win against Jankovic yesterday may prove a bit of a Pyrrhic victory as she seems to be feeling its effects now.
Sharapova is still struggling to hold serve for only the third time in this match.
Lex - July 4, 2007 12:59 PM (GMT)
great passing shot by Maria to save the 4th break point, but Venus comes straight back.
Get the idea if Maria holds this game, then it could be a turning point. She now has advantage as the clouds roll over
Play suspended
:moody:
Scotsguy - July 4, 2007 01:02 PM (GMT)
Phew, Maria saves 5 break points and now Venus will have time to think of all her missed opportunities......
However Venus is coping with the conditions better and is outplaying Maria, I will admit to that.....but say what you want about Maria she is an incredible fighter....2nd best on tour (after Serena)
Still 53 minutes of play and 1-1 in the second....
Manzikert - July 4, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
Terrible luck for Sharapova, who would have wanted to close that game out before the delay. She may have to fight for it all over again at resumption.
I'm actually watching the Krajicek match whilst I have the chance, because I know the Sharapova match will be on replay several times later on. So I have no idea what's going on Centre Court right now. Can she just not keep the ball in play or has Venus upped her game several notches?
SerenaW19 - July 4, 2007 01:07 PM (GMT)
How bad is the rain? Are we looking at hours of suspended play or just half an hour?
I really don't know who the delay will favour though, itś clear Sharapova needs to sort out her serve, she could do this in the delay unless she is physically hampered.
Still anyoneś match by the look of it however.
Queen Justine - July 4, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
And the alcoholic low life Richard Williams is at it again with his lying mind games - he's obviously lining up excuses just in case they lose
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6264190.stm"Richard Williams has been telling journalists that Serena has been diagnosed with a left calf muscle tear. No news on whether she will be fit to play against Justine Henin. Meanwhile, Venus has tendonitis in her left knee. What odds on them being fit for their doubles match later?"
BBC Sport's Caroline Cheese at Wimbledon
Yeh, we can see today that Venus is soooooooooo injured. No wonder his daughters turned out like they are  Not Venus so much, she's more like her mother thank goodness, but the other one, is a just like her father!
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,11014-2007300622,00.htmlSERENA WILLIAMS’ dad took a swipe at Justine Henin ahead of today’s Wimbledon grudge match.
Williams was angered by Henin’s gamesmanship to win the semi-final at Roland Garros.
Now dad Richard has had a dig at Henin’s failed marriage.
He said: “Justine is one tough lady. Anything that gets in her way, she moves it.
"She even moved her husband out of the way.”
Does he really think he can put Justine off her game by saying things like this and saying Serena is injured? roflmao She's not Daniela H, she's the world no.1 with 6 GS's! roflmao He's such scum - he should really go back to the hood where he came from. Amazing isn't it, with all that money he has, it can't buy you class.
No wonder people say they are bad for tennis - it's not surprising.
Queen Justine - July 4, 2007 03:08 PM (GMT)
Venus showing her teeth (a la Final 2005) = :yikes: :yikes:
Scotsguy - July 4, 2007 03:08 PM (GMT)
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
Maria wins a 19 minute game saving 7 break points......
Watch Venus hold to love now
Pebs - July 4, 2007 03:13 PM (GMT)

Buttercup - July 4, 2007 03:19 PM (GMT)
lookily im watching the match over the internet and my computer doesnt have speakers
vivahate - July 4, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
these two are trading wollops out there...
SerenaW19 - July 4, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)
Venus' break point conversion is actually rubbish!
Cmon Venus, Maria is upping her level a bit now, time for you to do the same
vivahate - July 4, 2007 03:25 PM (GMT)
this really needs to go to 3...with no roof i swear you could hear these two in trafalgar square :D :D :D
vivahate - July 4, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
the nbc feed is garbage. they're showing it from sharapova's serve at 2-all whereas it's sharapova 3-5 to stay in it on the live scoreboard. discount nbc
chetanpv - July 4, 2007 03:32 PM (GMT)
NBC is two games behind the live score..Total rubbish.
chetanpv - July 4, 2007 03:32 PM (GMT)
Two MPS for Venus..
Bring on Serena-Justine...
vivahate - July 4, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
6-1 6-3 to venus. well done venus
as for you maria, :tsk: :tsk: :tsk:
chetanpv - July 4, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
Sharapova is the most non-talented woman's player to be in the top 10. Her serve is worse than G.Coria or Dementieva and she doesn't know the meaning of defense or a backhand slice..
vivahate - July 4, 2007 03:36 PM (GMT)
there was great effort from both players in that second set.
Scotsguy - July 4, 2007 03:37 PM (GMT)
:( :( :( :(
FFS!!!!!!
That said Venus completely outserved Maria and that was the big difference, in the rallies on Maria's serve it was quite even but on Venus' serve MAria couldn't find a way in......
Trust Vee to play her match of the year (except perhpas for the final against Peer in Memhis)
Well done Venus, now come on Serena please if the lesser of the two sisters win the better has to as well
One teeny tiney point I will make is the number of net chords that went Vee's way or went against Maria really added up....
Scotsguy - July 4, 2007 03:38 PM (GMT)

SerenaW19 - July 4, 2007 03:38 PM (GMT)
Venus wins 61 63  I love you Venus...this could so be Wimby 2005 all over again. I love how many people have been counting her out roflmao
Maria :yikes: Just wasn't herself today.
dl04 - July 4, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
One word- perfection!
Venus Williams on form is the most intimdating athlete on the tour and it showed. That forehand was absolutely immense and her movement as ever, superb. Venus didnt face a breakpoint the whole match :D
Go Venus! :yahoo:
Who said she was playing terribly( SG! roflmao )
Scotsguy - July 4, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
Now watch CHoka and Dl come and rub it in....
