Title: Tuesday 3rd July - Day 8

Manzikert - July 3, 2007 11:44 AM (GMT)
In the only men's match to have taken the court, Ferrero is currently leading 7-5, 5-3 against Tipsarevic. I thought an extra couple of days to recover from three five-setters in a row would be good for the Serb, but the Spaniard's experience and confidence appears to be doing the job for him.

Can there be a more abysmal match-up than Federer v Ferrero at Wimbledon? Sigh. At least if Tipsarevic went through it would give us something different to look at in terms of a contest, even if Federer dealt him a drubbing in Davis Cup in their only encounter. The storyline if nothing else of a second Serb in the quarters of the men's draw would make it worthwhile.

Dinky Jo - July 3, 2007 11:54 AM (GMT)
come on tipsarevic....... I agree with you Manzi - really don't want Fed to play Ferrero in the quarters - dear god, how dull?

Scotsguy - July 3, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
Hmm Fererro vs Fed has been a rather common match of late.....

But still I'm a bit dissappointed with this match, I expected more but JCF is just dominating.

MrInvisible - July 3, 2007 12:29 PM (GMT)
Actually, Ferrero has played Federer before on grass, at Wimbledon, and gave him a decent match. I actually rate Ferrero better on faster surfaces these days than I do on clay. Ferrero's playing well here, and won't be a pushover for Federer...

Big Al - July 3, 2007 12:42 PM (GMT)
I remember that match ,Ferrero played a great baseline game but in the end Fed.was too good ..

Harry Potter - July 3, 2007 01:25 PM (GMT)
Yes, wasn't that in 2005? Good match, good match. Rating Ferrero more on grass than on clay is a wee bit going far to me, he still shows results on the red dirt. He's capable of performing on every single surface, really, unlike many of his compatriots (although there are signs of progress).

Scotsguy - July 3, 2007 02:08 PM (GMT)
:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: YAY Ferrero wins!!!!!!

:( :( :( :( Tipsarevic lost.....

Harry Potter - July 3, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
You should have been prepared for this moment, Poshguy.

Manzikert - July 3, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
I'm chuffed to see JCF do well at least, and Federer would have had an easy path through against either opponent; given how the Spaniard has played this week there should still be good tennis on offer in their match, or so I'm hoping.

Sorry to see Tipsarevic go out in three especially with his mini-fightback from a break down to take the the third set to a tiebreaker and play it closely to 5-all, but he can still be proud of his run here which has put him a bit more firmly on the map and will see him approach the Top 40. I'm just thrilled that at least one more men's match has been completed without fuss! Nadal can conceivably find himself out there tomorrow STILL playing against Soderling if he lets it go past 5-all, although at this rate he may not even get on court today anyhow. He must have replayed that narrow forehand miss wide on match point in his head dozens of times by now.

Tenez - July 3, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
There is something wrong with the weather people at Wimbledon. It has been dry for well over an hour and still no play going on!!!!

Are they waiting for rain to start play? They shoudl be must swifter in turning back to play. There is a lot of dry patches wasted out there.

Scotsguy - July 3, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)
2 brilliant documentaries on the beeb today.

First was 'The making of Maria' have seen this a couple times now but iI love it because she comes accross as such a nice person, I mean she always interviews well and is a pretty funny lass, but it also reminds you of how a much a fariytale her story was.

And the changing of the guard one was also good, but it did remind me why I prefer baseline tennis to S &V. Watching Sampras smack a serve and put a volley away gets incredibly tedious.....

Big Al - July 3, 2007 03:24 PM (GMT)
How many times has play been interupted today ? Must be a record !
Hewitt and Canas are warming up -again .

apparently they'd been warned of more heavy rain to come and didn't want to get the players out to warm up, only to turn around and send them away again. but, I guess the rain didn't come this time....

oooh...it's here instead. And i forgot to bring my umbrella to work

That was a very strong storm. Probably 3 inches of rain/hail in 15mn. No kidding.

But it's brightening and the storm sounds more distant. I hope They won't be as slow to start game again.

CMON NADALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY. (Just to annoy SG) :P :giggle:

Tenez - July 3, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
Going back to the game, what an amazing volley by Nadal to close his 3rd game. Quite a bit of luck involved but just to get his hands on it was amazing,

vivahate - July 3, 2007 05:24 PM (GMT)
they're baaaaaack!!

soderling holds for 3-all in the fifth
mathieu holds for 5-4 in the second

Tenez - July 3, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
Organisers really had it wrong to let the girls play first! This is really unfair for the men...Nadal or Soderling in particular!
They were also wrong not to play on Middle Sunday.....They won'tr deny that either!

I know. I started a whole thread abotu that as I was so pissed off.

Anyway come on Mathieu, you can do it boy. :ok:

Or has he lost? I've been out so don't know. Pointless waiting in for tennis when there is none!

Dinky Jo - July 3, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
the organisers have made some odd decisions - like the fact that tomorrow play doesn't start until 12 on the main courts  can anyone explain that to me? oh, and deciding to put nadal on second after the women's match - you really have got to feel for nadal/Soderling and Djoko/Kiefer who are still trying to finish their third round matches :(

vivahate - July 3, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
for tomorrow's schedule of play...

roddick/mathieu to finish up first on centre court
nadal/soderling to finish up first on court 1
djokovic/kiefer to finish up first on court 2

all men's matches first...but you do have to feel for the carry-over 3rd matches

Scotsguy - July 3, 2007 09:44 PM (GMT)
Yay Roddick was pummeling the Frenchman when they left court.....keep it uo Andy :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Also congrats to Robin for breaking bak but now is not the time to rest on your laurels, finish the Spaniard off........

Ummm would also like to see Kiefer win but also Djoko is such a nice guy it'd be nice to see him through as well....
