Title: Tuesday 3rd July: Day 8
Scotsguy - July 3, 2007 08:26 AM (GMT)
So I guess the big match of today is going to be Venus vs Maria.....lets hope the quality is somewhat higher than Miami.....where I think between them they made over 25 double faults.......Maria leads the H2H 3-1, and in victories has only dropped 1 set to Venus, however Venus did win the encounter here 2 years ago. Neither has played the other whilst playing their best and it's unlikely that will happen today as neither have produced their best tennis this year. Still should a close (& loud) match.
Vaidisova plays Amelie today, I've never particularly liked Nicole and I don't think she'll beat Amelie today as the Frenchwoman returns well enough to negate the powerful serve......
Jankovic vs BArtoli is unlikely to produce an upset. It's nice to see Bartoli finally finding some form here and at RG after a dreadful start to the year.....However Jelena will probably ease through.
Ivanovic vs Petrova will be quite close, Ana is still a little bit of an unknown quantity on grass, I knoiw she's played well so far this year but she's never claimed a really big scalp on grass yet.....I'm hoping for a Serbian win but Petrova could do it.....
Last and yes (for me anyway) least Kuznetsova vs Paszek, I really don't care for either of these two so not fussed who goes through, it could be a good match if they produce saome decent tennis though.....I actually think paszek is more reliable to produce consistent tennis...

i ike this paszek girl. she has more to her than just power like all the other new players on the tour. she made this beautiful drop-shot from behind the baseline yesterday
the commenator said she was like a young hingis, and i agree.
let's hope she can go quite far, and also i like her even more as she got me the 2-1 prediction win, and also was the furthest unseeded player, which i predicted B)
I think this can be the best match of 2day. let's hope the red button does allow us to see it
Wise_Analyst - July 3, 2007 10:34 AM (GMT)
Ana off to another of her trademark roaring starts... 5-0 up on Petrova, although both times she was broken, the Russian had chances to hold. I'm still not sure about this match, but after beating Rezai, Ana said she was playing as well on grass as she was on clay at the French :yahoo:
Her fellow Serb was dishing out a similar beating to Bartoli, at 4-1, but has just conceded one of her breaks. Mauresmo and Vaidisova is a bit more even though, 3-2 on serve to the Frenchwoman.
Mo aka Mz O'Hara - July 3, 2007 10:44 AM (GMT)
Raining again... :( this is getting ridiculous. They SHOULD have played Sunday.
Wise_Analyst - July 3, 2007 10:45 AM (GMT)
IT'S JULY. STOP RAINING, YOU STUPID F*CKING COUNTRY.
Ana won the first set 6-1, and Petrova was complaining of injury when the rain came down, so from a neutral's point of view, it might lead to a better match. From my point of view, grrr...
Mauresmo had broken Vaidisova and Jankovic was serving for the first set against Bartoli at 5-2, but was break point down.
Scotsguy - July 3, 2007 10:55 AM (GMT)
FFS, the sky is clear blue here and I'm in bloody scotland so why the **** does it have to rain in London.....
Buttercup - July 3, 2007 10:58 AM (GMT)
because this Britain. rain is as big a tradition at Wimbledon as the white clothes :)
also Kuznetsova is up 6/3 against Paszek :D :D

Petrova up a break in the second against Ivanovic :D
liam_valid - July 3, 2007 11:38 AM (GMT)
Kuzzy avenges Dementievas defeat to Paszek, winning 6-3 6-2.
Momo loses the first to Vaidisova on the tie break
Jankovic a set up against Bartoli, recovering from a break in the second to make it 2-2
Ivanovic breaks Petrova back
Manzikert - July 3, 2007 11:38 AM (GMT)
In a way it will be a relief for Mauresmo to crash out to end the suspense about when it will happen.
It was kind of her to get broken serving for the first set 5-3 and to squander three set points, losing FIVE points in a row from 6-3 in the tiebreaker, so as to remove any doubt as to whether or not she self-destructed. She's terrified of Vaidisova (and why not, losing both times they've played) and the Czech teen has picked up on it. It looks grim and if Mauresmo wants any credibility as a defending champion she will at least take it into a decider.
liam_valid - July 3, 2007 11:42 AM (GMT)
Bartoli breaks Jankovic again, apparently Jankovic has had the trainer on
Petrova breaks Ivanovic back 4-2 Nadia serving :D

I was hoping to see Petrova do better, it's about time she progressed further at Wimby. Go Nadia!

Nadia started off stiff, and got down on herself as usual, but she was like a different player after the rain break. Ivanovic will only win this if Nadia loses her belief again, but i think she is playing too well for that
Wise_Analyst - July 3, 2007 11:53 AM (GMT)
Ivanovic was dismissing Petrova easily until the f*cking rain came down. When she came back on court she played absolute shite, and Petrova is big favourite to win now. Sometimes, Wimbledon really is a joke.

The rain breaks can totally change the momentum of a match. This can be seen as adding interest, but it is totally frustrating for some players and their fans when they start losing after such a great start.

Scotsguy - July 3, 2007 12:11 PM (GMT)
Not really fussed who wins between Amelie and Vaidi as I don't really want to see either win, unless they play Henin in the final...
Come on Ana!!!!
Manzikert - July 3, 2007 12:15 PM (GMT)
Good for Mauresmo to have consolidated the break for 4-2 just before play was suspended yet again, but her momentum will have taken a hit. She looked down and out facing a couple of break points and struggling on her first two service games, but credit her for not throwing in the towel. The first set was terribly frustrating to watch but if she can just take it to three even a loss won't be so disastrous; Vaidisova was never going to be an easy match-up for her, but showing some fight would be commendable..
It's looking grim for Ivanovic, unfortunately, but perhaps this second interruption will swing the pendulum back her way. A QF run (or even further?!) ere would really build upon her successes in Paris as well as boost her CV in terms of results across surfaces. I'm glad for Petrova to have made it this far but I can't quite get excited about seeing her deep in the draw.
Jankovic was saved from triple break point and will have time to regroup. She should seriously try to close this out in two if she can because the prospect of Bartoli v Krajicek will basically mean Henin, Wimbledon champion. Which is fine but I'd like to see her break a sweat on the way.

I'm not sure it's 'fair' that Petrova wins, although I agree she has a better natural grass court game than Ana. It's just infuriating when a match is changed by this country's stupid climate.
Anyway, the rain came down again with Petrova in the ascendancy, so at least the luck evened itself out. I can't see Ana winning and I'm pretty p*ssed off, but there've been worse incidents involving the rain. Tim vs Goran, anyone?

No, with the death of S&V, there's really very little that marks this tournament out. Right now, it's undoubtedly the worst Slam, although the roof should sort that out.

Scotsguy - July 3, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
Wow, I know Vaidi isn't a great match up for Amelie but still.... :yikes: :yikes:
Amelie had 3 great first rounds, serving incredibly but today it deserted her along with her volley, something like 15 doubles and 26/50 success rate in net approaches....
