I just wandered in front of the tv to find its blooming raining again...

its sunny here *sigh*

Manzikert - July 2, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
Nadal had a golden opportunity to wrap up his match before the rains came, 7-6 on his serve in the third-set tiebreaker. Instead it's been left at 7-all and I fancy Soderling to take it into a fourth and possibly fifth set - the last thing the Spaniard needs, considering he'd have to come back tomorrow and do it all over again if he does advance.

Davydenko looks close to the finish line against Monfils 6-3, 7-5, 3-0. Looks like he's finally sorted out grass - he couldn't string wins together on the surface and here he is poised to make the second week at Wimbledon. Good to see.

Nalbandian out tamely to Baghdatis, the Cypriot really only being made to work for one set 6-2, 7-5, 6-0. The 'former finalist' tag is looking more hollow with each passing year.

Kiefer raced out to a 3-0 lead but Djokovic has hit stride and leads 7-6(4), 2-all.

After a remarkable last shout this week, Arthurs is on the brink of retirement yet again, trailing fellow veteran Bjorkman 2-6, 1-6, 1-all 30-40. The Australian probably doesn't have another fightback from two sets down left in him, but it's been a fine showing and going out to last year's semifinalist is no mean thing. Bjorkman had a shock early exit in the doubles draw so is free to concentrate on his singles play, but can't see him getting past Berdych, who has been making good on his bumped-up seeding.

Hewitt and Cañas are unsurprisingly having a grindfest out there - virtually every game coming to deuce and the fourth game of the second set took probably ten or fifteen minutes by itself before Hewitt finally held serve. He leads 6-4, 3-4 on serve but I'd be surprised if this didn't go to four or even five.

What happens if it completely rains out today and tomorrow?
Two 5 set matches in one-day :yikes:

WimbledonAce - July 2, 2007 05:11 PM (GMT)
It better not rain all day tomorrow

Worst. decision. ever.

They had no reason at all to rest on their laurels for having caught up schedule-wise on Friday, since the forecast wasn't going to be any different for this week. They can't even use the 'we have to let the grass rest' excuse because obviously it had virtually all of Saturday to do so.

I WANNA SEE TIPSAREVIC VS FERRERO

Nalby has even said he doesn't understand why there wasn't play yesterday.

I mean, most members of this board looked at the 5 day forecast and assumed there would be play on sunday - just seemed logical. Apparently, the Wimbledon organisers weren't capable of doing that. I think it'll be a shame if certain matches come down to who has had to play 2 5-setters in a day, or who has had to play doubles and then immediatly play singles or whatever :(

someone said yesterday was a nice day in london as well

vivahate - July 2, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
wimbledon goofed

barrystar - July 2, 2007 05:41 PM (GMT)
It looks like that - but wasn't the forecast for yesterday very bad too. I thought that their reasoning was that the forecast for Sunday was so bad that it was not worth bringing everyone back for another day of hanging around waiting for the rain to clear.

Certainly where I was the forecast was awful, but the weather was lovely.

I am not trying to stick up for them, but I don't know to what extent we are hammering them with the benefit of hindsight.

chetanpv - July 2, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
Was watching a bit of that Diana concert live on television and it seemed like a very sunny day in London yesterday.

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)
I think a few people were saying on saturday night that they were surprised there was no play on sunday - so i don't think the forecast was *that* bad. But at the same time, you feel that with the forecast as bad as it is for the rest of the week, they'd have taken the risk and scheduled a few matches on each court, with the hope of easing the back-log. yes, it's a pain for the players if they don't get to play, but i'm pretty sure they'd prefer that to having to play every day (perhaps) for the next week

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
apparently the covers are coming off

hey, I've spent all day in music listening to the very unrythmic beating of drums.... sitting and talking bout the weather whilst waiting for Mr Pebs to finish reading the bedtime stories is a blessing to me!

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
woo hoo!!! they're back on court!!!!

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 06:27 PM (GMT)
soderling takes the third set against nadal with an ace

but you gotta feel sorry for Rafa - apparently if he wins today he's likely to have to play tomorrow and wednesday as well :(

listening to it chucking it down, I wonder how much play they are going to get done... far from having all the choice matches on their show courts, they are going to have all kinds of fab matches out on the outer courts at this rate - just to get them all done at once - which means no tv access doesnt it?

Manzikert - July 2, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
Nadal gives away a point on his serve, and Soderling hammers down an untouchable ace, and it's a fourth set 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(7). Unlucky for the Spaniard, but after giving away a break lead in the set and a couple of minibreak leads in the tiebreaker (not to mention match point on his serve), he only has himself to blame.

It was the only day it hadn't rained in London for a whole week, at least where I live anyway. Today it's on -of all day. I went out twice, dodged rain first time, got soaked the next!

Pebs - July 2, 2007 06:48 PM (GMT)
 bbc has got Williams match on... I sooo need to get a digibox for my portable in the kitchen...

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 06:50 PM (GMT)
the live stream is appalling today - seems to be fine when they're sitting around at the change of ends or whatever, but the minute a point is about to start or end it just disappears entirely

I fancy Soderling to take it into a fourth and possibly fifth set - the last thing the Spaniard needs, considering he'd have to come back tomorrow and do it all over again if he does advance.

Sure enough, Soderling notches the first break of the fourth to go up 4-3. Honestly I can see the upset brewing - Nadal has that hunted look on his face that you see when he's playing to lose. He needs to rebound quick, preferably this set rather than the last.

he's started his grunting as well......which always disturbs me slightly.

i think it would be sad to see nadal go out at this stage - i'd like to see him play Fed in the final for a start :P I think the numerous rain breaks have really gotten to him, and then the last two points of that tie-break that they played after the rainbreak can't have helped his mind set. you're right Manzikiert - he does have a certain look - not a rafa "I can beat everyone and everything" look that's for sure :(

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
oh dear rafa again......Soderling wins the 4th set 6-4

btw, i do love this umpire - he's announcing is so amusing..... :)

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
interesting little incident there - Rafa was ready to serve when Soderling decided to go back to his chair and get a new racquet. Then rafa forgot to hold up the ball to show it was new balls time, and then Soderling held up rafa's serve to dig his shorts out of his ass  and i don't think rafa was at all amused. he looks decidedly pumped up now......

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
ah crap, it's raining :moody:

Manzikert - July 2, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
Belting down again just as Nadal finally seized the momentum to go up 2-0 in the fifth. He'll have to start all over again (tomorrow almost certainly) and if he begins as slowly as he did from the last delay he will find himself in trouble all over again.

Bloody wasted middle Sunday.
