Title: Living without the internet

Harry Potter - July 1, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
Would you be capable of living so? It seems impossible to me...But I have tried it on several occasions, locking my wireless adapter up (cos I was afraid that it was destroying me), but at the end, I always get bored, so I take it back and stick it into my PC.

Oh but seriously...What would be the losses to not have the internet?

Wouldn't be able to talk to you, hiro :D

Hiro's a good kid leave him alone :P

The net does get very addictive! I usually come it every day unless it's impossible to do so, when I went Wales last summer to stay with my uncle who had no T..V aerial or internet for 2 weeks while I was there you'd think I would get bored but I didn't!

I had my auntie uncle and 2 cousins to have fun with and we went lots of places and did lots of things like go to beach (3 times!) play tennis, go swimming, play football, play playstation etc, because he had a T.V just no aerial.

I'm going again in a week or 2 but now he has an aerial and should have the internet by the time I get there so I suppose I won't be without them both this time :P

As a person who flits from one thing to the other,I could live without it,but I would just replace it with something else.I think I would struggle more with losing the TV than the internet.

The sport and some shows I religiously watch, would be too much to bear. :(

I couldn't live without internet access these days, or should I say, wouldn't like to. Couldn't is a strong word.
I seem to have more or less fully replaced TV with internet access, I watch most programmes online, the only thing I do watch on TV is tennis. Get all my entretainment online.

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 12:19 PM (GMT)
I have happily lived without a TV for years now - i just watch stuff on the internet, or buy DVDs of my fave TV shows when they come out. I know i wouldn't cope without the internet especially as I ive by myself now and would get incredibly bored I expect without the internet to surf on every evening! :D

I must admit i'm not a big fan of having a TV, 'cos i kind of feel that if you have one you'll watch it - just because it's there. it's what's putting me off getting one now......

SuperBRAT - July 2, 2007 01:17 PM (GMT)
I've only used the net for entertainment for 2 years, so I'm not as accustomed to it as youngsters who have grown up with it and would find it hard to be without. I guess to them it's like losing the radio or TV. I only use it for CC really, and prior to that the BBC. I like to browse youtube for music, it's like a jukebox on my pc and that is so cool as I'm a huge music listener B) I'd miss it if I didn't have it. I don't see it as replacing my TV though - i never watch on line, much more comfy to take to the sofa and have a large screen to watch. :D And of course the radio is with you wherever you move to if you play it loud enough.

The main thing I don't like is comfort and convenince. Depends where you have your pc I guess, but it is nto so realxign having to sit here and type as it is chilling on the sofa. If I worke don a pc all day I doubt I'd log on, as I really don't enjoy the use of the pc at times and ergonomically it's not good to sit at one for too long.

I think that what I'd mainly miss would be e-mail. I have revived friendships with people living in the UK through e-mail. Formerly we would write at Christmas, now it's frequent communication. Great for short messages to people, too - esp as you can write to x no of people at the same time AND in the middle of the night. I use the telephone much less now. I could live without everything else - altho I do read a number of newspapers on ine and Google is a godsend for looking up all sorts of things. Yes well, when I think about it i'd find it VERY hard indeed to live without it! It'd be worse than giving up cigarettes :yikes:

Awwwww Dinky you live on your own! :( You must get a bit lonely sometimes? I hope you don't though :) I think I will have to get 2 blokes by the names of Marat Safin and Dmitry Tursunov to keep you company :giggle:

Dinky Jo - July 4, 2007 07:16 AM (GMT)
honestly TMA, compared to the housemates i've had over the last few years, living by myself is a blessing :P

*reads last part of post again*

hang on, yes, i do get really really really lonely, and having those two men you mentioned to keep me company would be great. When can you get them sent here? ;)2

You didn't share with the same folk as me did you? roflmao

I was in a 5 person house share for 3 years before I got my own place, it had its ups and downs alright. So glad I left in the end. If I wanted privacy in that house I only had my bedroom, which wasn't always approprite if you knwo what I mean ;) Queues for the bathroom, having to take turns to cook in the box of a kitchen, I don't miss that.

I'll be glad when I move in with different housemates next year. The current bastards seem to think it's ok to steal my food, cutlery, crockery...

And no I definitely couldn't live without the net. Especially being a big tennis fan, the internet is a bit of a necessity. It has kind've replaced t.v for me too as time-passer, although like Jo I have tended to watch my fav shows on DVD for a while now.

Housemates eh? I had such problems with the last lot - the old guys all moved out and this new lot came in. Two of the guys used to really gang up on me. I had all kinds of stuff stolen, my room broken into, my washing thrown on the floor, abuse hurled at George when he came over, leadign to me threatening to punch this guy! They stuck hardcore porn filthy pictures in my kitchen cupboards once. One of them bizarrely declared his undying love for me and tried to take advantage of me when I came home drunk from a wedding party. He was about 12 years younger than me and got wierder by the day. I foudn this hard to deal with as he was a very tall big guy and he'd had loads of arguements with me

The landlord did nothing really, so I claimed harrassment and withheld my rent. That really annoyed them as the landlord in typical style used that as an excuse not to fix stuff etc. I wanted to do a runner but not get caught, I knew they suspect I planned one. I also knew they were nosey b*stards so I gradually fed them what they wanted to hear, but told them lies. I also wanted them to get the landlord round as he would not come. I let them gradually find out that I was supposedly running off to a new job at women's aid in Manchester. They believed me, the landlord came over as expected, I told him the story. George was saying he feared for my safety etc as he lived in Sheffield at the time and I was in London.

Anyway the landlord reached an agreement that he'd ensure I got no more hassle and I'd pay him back in installemtns when I left. I agreed, had every intention of paying but got more crap  I moved out - caught one of them knicking my stuff from the freezer as I left, I told him he was a theiving vulture and to keep it. He started shouting when he saw I had my bag packed and wanted to know what was happening, where I was going, wanted an argument etc. It was great when George just turned round and shook his head and said 'have a nice life!" This guy was fuming! roflmao

Anyway I only moved 2 miles up the road, I stayed working in my job 20 mins walk from the house. The landlord never chased the money, but I knew he would not becasue he was a tax evading swine and I worked at Customs and he was scared! roflmao I always kept the money aside just in case but nothing happened. I had a nice sum in the region of 2k to enjoy later on. :D

Btw these nightmare tennants from hell were none other than - STUDENTS!!! Now that is concerning, before they came in we were all ex students and got on just fine.

Harry Potter - July 4, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
You worked for Customs, SB? Do you know the WCO (world customs organization)?

Lex - July 5, 2007 06:33 AM (GMT)
being responsible for my company's website and eCommerce operations, with turnover of around $30m a month online sales, I guess I would find it exceptionally difficult to live without the internet.

Ace - July 5, 2007 06:53 AM (GMT)
After leaving high school and all my friends I find the internet a good way to keep in contact with everyone. I could probably live without it though cuz I always have my video games ;)
