Title: Saturday 30th June
Wise_Analyst - June 30, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
Ana already a break up on Rezai, albeit mainly due to the Frenchwoman's double faults. She should win this unless Rezai suddenly starts firing on all cylinders, but I must say I'm not excited about her prospects on grass this year. Petrova will be favourite to take her out next round.
Mauresmo giving Santangelo a beating, 6-1, 3-1 up.
Sharapova's game with Sugiyama is a good one, Maria winning the first set 6-3.
Kuznetsova with a commanding lead in the first set against Radwanska.

i love morigami. the guile, the compact strokes, the intelligence and the courage. it's no wonder she's such a danger to the big players.
go akiko!
Manzikert - June 30, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
No upsets appear to be brewing, even the most likely one of Paszek v Dementieva, the Russian taking the first set 6-3. Of course it's rarely a straightforward affair for her but she looks in good shape so far.
Mauresmo improved on her scoreline against Santangelo in Eastbourne, this time seeing off the Italian in 1 and 2.
Sharapova had a characteristic mid-match wobble, but from trailing 1-3 in the second she won every game the rest of the way to wrap it up 6-3, 6-3 against Sugiyama literally just in the nick of time because play has now been suspended on all the courts as the rain comes again.
The challenge of talented young players Azarenka and Radwanska is being held off successfully, with both Vaidisova and Kuznetsova leading by a set and a break 6-4, 3-2 and 6-2, 4-3 respectively. Petrova similarly leads Ruano Pascal 6-3, 3-1. Ivanovic has taken the first set 6-3 against Rezai. Venus looked to be en route to a simple win, taking the first set 6-2 against Morigami, but trails by a double break 1-4 in the second - it seems a timely interruption for her sake.

All off for rain..
But business as usual in the women's matches, all pretty much going to form.
Straight set wins for Amelie and Sharpie.
Petrova, Venus, Vaidisova, Ivanovic, Kuzzy all currently a set up in their matches.
Dementieva also up a set against Paszek- been watching that one. Never heard Elena shriek so much when playing her shots!! :o And only one df so far.. all just not like her..

don't write paszek off. this kid is gold. 16 years old and fears no one. i haven't been so impressed by a youngster since hingis came along.

Shoulder injury that needs 2 hours' treatment after each match, and non-existent net skills..?
..Sharpie the shrieking harpie needs all the help that she can get!
I mean, on top of her injury, to win SW19, she'll probably have to beat Venus, Amelie, and then Serena/ Justine..
Well, if she wins it then she will be a very worthy winner..
(welcome back Scotsguy btw!)

I know, another cake walk draw.
We need Venus to win against Morigami and hit top form against The Cheat. Although after watching venus this week, I am not too hopeful. :(

Playing Venus at wimbledon is hardly a cakewalk, with Momo and prob Henin after that
Scotsguy - July 1, 2007 07:06 PM (GMT)
Maria's gonna at least make the semis, against Amelie it's a toss up but Henin/Serena will likely be too much.....
Anyway she's defended her RG & W points from last year which is pretty good with a shoulder injury.....
She's generally a much better player than last year with a more all court game and a hell of a lot more control over her ground strokes and even a teeny tiny bit of touch....

She was visibly hampered by it in PAris and although I still think she would have lost to Ana, it would not have been so 1 sided if she could serve properly.
As for B'ham, she would have won that final if she didn't have the shoulder injury, in the third set she can't hit the ball nearly is hard and if she had been at full health I think she would have won because she's a better player than Jankovic.
As for Wimby, she has been having 2 full hours of treatment on it a day....
