Title: upset of day 6
Flame - June 30, 2007 11:01 AM (GMT)
i'm really hungover so you should probably ignore this but:
paszek to beat dementieva.
sam smith rightly points out that elena is the queen of the 3 setter so if she can drag young tamira into a dogfight she'll probably flop over the line 7-5 in the 3rd or something. so maybe tamira paszek won't make it stick but i've watched the progess of this young player as much as i could an i can say one thing for sure:
this chick ain't going down without a fight.
dementieva is not going to have fun out there when they play.
my loony pick today:
kiefer to beat the djoker.
i remember a couple of seasons ago kiefer played federer at wimby and actually served to take the match into a 5th set. he hit the ball so hard that not even roger could deal with it. unknown quantity due to injury. but he's on the shortlist with henman, haas, rios, philippoussis etc of most talented guys not to win a slam.
hopefully we will get some play at some point. :(

Indeedy re Kiefer, I was at that match and he played fab. He has done so well this tourny, v surprising along with Haas both back from injuries. :ok: Novak is looking pretty good though so I sense Nic will not make the grade today (if they play at all).

I had a few hteories on the ladies but looking at the scores now, I think they were all wrong! roflmao
I agreed re: Paszek and went for her to beat Elena in a close 3 setter.
I tough that Radwanska could upset Kuzzy if Kuzzy had one of her bad days, which are quite often. Radwanska did wel here last year and is improving.
Could Azarenka upset Vaidisova? Maybe take a set?
The rest seem predictable with the exception of Morigami against the unpredictable Venus but I onyl see that as a set loss risk.

the venus v morigami match is panning out exactly like their first encounter where venus dropped the middle set and then ran away with it. i'd say it'll happen again whenever they finish.
wonderful pasz needed to win the first set against dementieva. she had a chance when she went a break up but couldn't hang on. i'd go for elena in 3 now.

wise after the fact analysis:
kuzzy v rad looks like a squash match (as in squashed tomato). az need another year or so to develop before she can compete with the like of vaider.

Mens
I'm thinking - and only posibly -
Youhzny - whilst i picked him to win, Niemimen is quite tough and consitent and has had some good results in recent years. Both men had a tough 5 setter last time so who knows?
Bjorkman - he is a great player, he's experienced and knows grass. Arthurs has a huge serve and is eager to fight to the death in what could be his last match. They are both veterans, so the age issue isn't there. I Unless Arthurs has run out of steam right now, it should be a close match. I thought Arthurs might be ou tby now, but in his last match he hammered Robredo so he ha severy chance IMO.
Monfils to beat Davydenko seems a popular pick, as the Russina has a bpoor Wimby record. However I find Monfils a bit hot and cold and Davvy the more consistent and he showed toughness to come through in 5 against Guiccione. I'm going Davy.

wayne has been the story of this year imo.
i picked him to beat rodredo but bjorkman is a different story. jonas has such a great return that i think he can wear down the big serving aussi. it won't be easy though for either guy.

I know what you mean.
It's annoying that despite him being the story, not one of his matches was shown. I've seen some dire stuff and no Wayne. :( Will be sad if he goes out without a good audience. I knw he is nto seeded and has nto gone that far here, but Jonas is a seed and a popular one. And we have nto seen one fo hsi matches either  Damned BBC and Wimby schedulers, or is it me - does no one like the matches I want to see?

I agree, a lot of the time we have missed out on some great matches. I know they think we are all interested in the big guns but I think it would broaden peoples horizons to show some of the lesser known players just now and again.

Agreed. I'd much rather see the matchups between closer ranked players, at least in the earlier rounds, rather than the top-ranked players steamrolling the much lower-ranked players.

Absolutely. And not only lesser known, but good match ups rather than 3 set whitewashes. They could at least change matches when a match gets interesting - I'd be quite happy with that, like to see a deciding set in a 5 setter or see a potential upset.
