This could be a very interesting match-up.

First set goes to Kuznetsova 6-4.

Meanwhile, Ivanovic/Kirilenko bt Benesova/Krajicek in the doubles.

Sveta bt. Venus 6-4 6-2 in a v.good match

Excellent peformance by Sveta there - she was hitting the ball beautifully, and served very effectively.

Venus should be pleased though. She played quite well, though a few errors cost her dearly. It was a very enjoyable match :)

Hi LDF :D

I thoroughly enjoyed that match, despite obviously my dissapointment in Venus losing. I thought Sveta played a great game tactically. She took those mid-court balls away from Venus with some terrific depth that set up the big forehand or made Venus hit long. She also served very consistently, not giving Venus any rythm on the return, which was crucial against Venus.

still i think Venus played well. The first set was very compettitive, with Venus really going for her shots, particulary that forehand which seems so improved from a couple of years ago, despite those forehands she missed at 4-2 down. Still great base for venus to project her form from and i hope she'll have a strong tournament in Rome and RG before the big ' W '.

Well done Sveta and great effort from Venus :D

I totally agree :D

It's been a good week for her, and there's absolutely no shame in losing to a player in this magnificent form.

I was just really glad to see Venus out there competing( and grunting) roflmao

Kuznetsova IMO on form is the second best player on clay behind JHH. She really is supreme on that forehand and her movement is so daring with those great Clijsters-esque slides. Venus was not disgraced today, simply outplayed. No shame in that...
