Title: Tiresome BBC text commentary
MrInvisible - June 29, 2007 01:09 PM (GMT)
Am I the only one fed up up with the BBC's 'hilarious' live internet text commentary of Wimbledon. Written by freeloading journalists with no knowledge or interest of tennis - obervations of Fordyce et al used to be quite funny, but they're getting quite tiresome. Really lame stuff on there - the in-joke about the BBC mole is particularly unfunny, and there's some cringeworthy stuff they've got off texts from people:

Oh, it's truly appalling.. Quite offensively bad at times too.
The live cricket commentary that they do on the beeb is even worse. Some guy called Ben Dirs.. Ben Dire, more like.

The 606 thread that links to it is full of nonsense as well - full of comments like 'player x is top "totty"', 'player y would look great with no clothes on'...
Whilst there's nothing wrong with a bit of banter, and a few people appreciate the eye candy, the level of 'debate' on the 606 messageboard for tennis at the moment is far worse than it was in the days before they demolished the old boards. Over time, the 3 minute rule has ruined spontaneity, whilst the rubbish has continued to thrive...

Oh, the 606 board is horrific too.
And the beeb sports team actually quote some of the posters from that!
I don't miss the beeb board anymore as it seems such a long time since it was actually decent. And most of the tennis coverage by the beeb online is woeful. They need someone in their team who is actually intersted in the game.

Yeah the joke has now wore thin. The 1st time I saw it was amusing, now I try to avoid it as it just riles me
