Title: upset of day 5
Flame - June 29, 2007 11:31 AM (GMT)
ok i've already stated that my pick today is for jo-wilfried tsonga to humiliate that jammy unworthy lucky git lopez.
tsonga is the real world number 1. forget that federer fella check out tsonga's win loss record. it's absurdly good and he's great on grass.
he's won 5 titles since march including surbition where he beat karlovic in the final. the guy's an animal.
also i believe hingis will lose today. granville plays well on grass and she whipped bammer, one of the form players on the tour, in the last round. martina's health and ring rust will catch up to her today imo.

Lopez is a good grass court player and that was a known fact to most before yesterdays match, I fancy he will beat Tsonga myself...

rankings-wise it would be an upset if tsonga won but betting-wise it would be an upset if lopez won. tsonga is a warm favourite on the betting exchanges. depends on how you look at it really. still think tsonga will do it though.

In terms of upsets...
Tipsarevic (most improved player of year?) is off to a fantastic start against Gonzalez.
Lopez will beat Tsonga - he has more experience, and is a quality grasscourt player, and deservedly beat Henman (and I'm saying that as a Henman fan).
Safin can liven things up against Federer, but to beat him over 5 sets on a grasscourt is a real long shot.
How about Ferrero to beat Blake - wouldn't be an enormous upset, but I'm far from convinced on Blake's chances of going far in this tournament...and Ferrero has done well at Wimbledon before...
Big Al - June 29, 2007 01:10 PM (GMT)
Gonzales and Blake are the type to be upset by a good grasscourt player.
Id have said the same about Safin, but he's playing well and its a very interesting encounter ...

I said Safarova to beat Jankovic earlier, and I'm half way there! B)
The BBC even posted it on their website.
don't agree with Granville. She doesn't really have anything to trouble Hingis with, kind of like Nakamura the other day

you may be right about granville. i'm reading a lot into the bammer result, but is suspect juicy lucie will run out of steam against janky.

Here's my thoughts. I know some matches are started but I never had time to post my thoughts earlier.
Mathieu v Ljubicic - Mathieu is doing well here and I think there has been quite a French resurgence of late. Ljubi for some reason flakes at Wimby. I'm going with Mathieu 3-1.
Tipsarevic v Gonzalez - potential for an upset. Tipsy is a strong player but he's had 2 5 setters this week. Gonzo doesn't look as consitent on that forehand at the moment. I'm saying sets will be tight, Tipsy serves well so few breaks, but I think Gonzo will prevail 3-1, maybe 3-2.
Lopez v Tsonga - I don't know enough about Tsonga. He could beat Lopez though, I have no feeling either way but I'd say Lopez's experince will pull him through and he shoudl feel confident after yesterday, unless he's tired. I wanna see thsi match, hope it's on TV.
James Blake - could go out to Ferrero, but I'm stickign with Blake as it's about time he pushed forward at Wimby and looks strong so far.
I want to know more about Vasselin - could he cause an upset?
Verdasco - unlikely to beat Roddick, he's too inconsistent. Will take a set though if he fires his groundies off liek he si capable of doing.
Tursy v Haas - all about Tursy on the day really. Haas is much more consistent and is sneaking through silently. I do think Tursy has a chance here, but I'd have to say Haas.
Tbh it's a tricky bunch of matches to call today.

Women's -
Jankovic v. Safarova - I know Lucie has a set up, but when I looked at this I thought it would be a tighter match than the seedings suggest. Lucie was quite a fighter at the FO, and has nothing to lose. I gave Jelena the edge though in 2 close sets.
Krajicek v. Chakvetadze - tough call. Michaela seems to have found some form this week. Could go either way.
Hantuchova v Srebotnik  You'd say easy for Dani of course, but Dani does have bad days and may lose a set. Still backing Dani..
Bondarenko v Schnyder - I'm intrigued here, have no idea who will win but we all know Patty capitulates and Bondaenko is a powerful hitter.
Bartoli v. Peer - nto much fo an upset but I picked Bartoli.
