Title: Men's Doubles

Dinky Jo - June 28, 2007 07:45 AM (GMT)
The first round of the men's doubles started yesterday and there's a few Brits in action already:

Butorac/Murray will be playing Hernandez/Starace last on court number 2. They really should win that - i think they prefer faster surfaces, and Murray should obviously have the support of the crowd.

Bloomfield/Marray vs. Ratiwatana/Ratiwatana. I have never heard of the Brit's opponents, and you;ve gotta hope that with a bit of home support they might be able to make the second round.

Childs/Delago vs. Santoro/Zimonjic - this started yesterday, with the Brits playing the number 1 seeds. When play was stopped it was 1 set all and in to a tie-break in the third :yikes:

Frystenberg/Kubot vs. Baker/Bogdanovic. Another one that started yesterday - with the Polish 16th seeds up 5-3 in the first set.

Bamford/May vs. Ginepri/Parrott - would be nice if the british pair could win this, but i don't think i'll hold my breath.

Auckland/Huss vs. Bozoljac/Norman - now Auckland/Huss have been playing together a while, so I'd kind of hope - again, with the crowd support for Auckland - that they could win this!

Also in action today are Knowles and Nestor who are looking to win Wimbledon to complete their set of Slams, as well as the defending Champs the Bryan bros.

Butorac and Murray have just started their match against Hernandez/Starace :yahoo:

Dinky Jo - June 28, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
Just a bit of an update:

Bloomfield/Marray won :yahoo:

but Bamford/May lost :(

and Butorac/Murray have just broken Hernandez/Starace

MrInvisible - June 29, 2007 09:05 AM (GMT)
Got to admit that the mens' doubles is Britain's saving grace at this Wimbledon. Murray and (American) Butorac look the real deal to go far in this tournament, whilst there have been some other promising results.

Great on Bloomfield and Marray - I've always thought Bloomfield to be one of the better Brits and Marray looks capable of doing well in doubles.

How did Bogdanovic and Baker do? And what about James Auckland and (Aussie) Steven Huss?

Dinky Jo - June 29, 2007 05:35 PM (GMT)
Updates (as i can see everyone is as interested in the doubles tournament as i am :P ):

well, butorac and Murray posted a convincing win - straight sets, nice and easy. Auckland and Huss also won - in 4 sets :) Baker and Boggo lost tho :(

I think Butorac/Murray are up against Erlich/Ram next and Auckland/Huss are up against Damm/Paes - so not exactly easy matches for either pairing.

big shock of the tournament tho - Bjorkman/Miryni have gone out of the tournament :yikes: The 2nd seeds went out in 4 sets to Lindstedt/Nieminen in the first round......

yorkshire - June 29, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
Just saw some highlights from Mahut/Benneteau's match - quite a good match with lots of needle as well - The french guys accused their Israeli opponents of time wasting and Benneteau shoulder barged one of their opponents on the change over.

At the end Mahut refused to shake hands with Ram I think it was.

Class stuff :D

Dinky Jo - June 29, 2007 06:12 PM (GMT)
butorac/murray beat the 7th seeds erlich/ram

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
Bloomfield/Marray just beat the 16th seeds :yahoo: they are through to the third round of the doubles :chesire:

vivahate - July 2, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
the bjorkman/mirnyi upset have made it a little bit easier for knowles/nestor to get to that final

Hey I didn't know they were your fave doubles team, I'm assuming it's cos Nestor is Canadian.....

But anyway they're my fave team too, aside from Butorac/Murray....

vivahate - July 2, 2007 06:11 PM (GMT)
who said anything about favourites?? i don't really have much opportunity to root for a canuck in tennis right now, so i would always support daniel nestor. he's a very accomplished doubles player. winning wimbledon after taking the french would be something special. it might push nestor to stick with knowles at least until the end of this season and on to the year-end masters...that would be a more fitting end to a successful partnership. nonethless, best of luck to them at wimbledon :ok:

Dinky Jo - July 2, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
i would really like to see Knowles/Nestor do well here - be good to see them stick together. They're doing so well in the race now, it would seem daft to split up and work with new partners, considering it would be highly unlikely that the new partnerships would reach the YECs.

Apparently, the decision is already being re-considered - so here's hoping

MrInvisible - July 3, 2007 09:28 AM (GMT)
Well done Bloomfield/Marray...I take it that Butorac and Murray are also doing well...

Dinky Jo - July 3, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
yes, although they haven't played in about a month....well, that might be an exaggeration, but they're waiting for the other first and second round matches from their half to be played.....not even sure if they're on the schedule for today

Dinky Jo - July 3, 2007 09:39 AM (GMT)
Well, as a team Booty and Stretch haven't played since their match on friday, and they're not on the schedule for today

However, Murray should be playing his mixed doubles match with Jankovic today - although Butorac is also playing mixed doubles, and he's not on the schedule for today

and think they're quite a long way behind on the doubles matches :(

SuperBRAT - July 4, 2007 11:09 AM (GMT)
They sure are way behind!

Basically Murray and Booty are waiting to play the winner of Dlouhy/Vizner [9] v Cermak and Friedl. This would a a 3rd round match, they are likley to face Bryan Bros in the 4th if they win.

Anyway I just checked and found that poor old Cermak and Friedl have only just finished their previous rounds match today beating Tipsy and HT Lee. They are scheduled to play again later, and poor old Cermak at least has the mixed doubles toplay today too. :o What a mess.

Dinky Jo - July 4, 2007 11:14 AM (GMT)
What really annoyed me is that when the tournament ref was justifying his decision to not play on sunday he said that it was because the singles matches were on schedule by saturday. when then asked about the doubles he was like, oh yeah, they're well behind - like they don't matter :o

yorkshire - July 4, 2007 11:38 AM (GMT)
Theres a mens doubles match on court 16 that is 23 all in the 5th set!

Wise_Analyst - July 4, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
Mello & Sa just won it 28-26.

And if I caught the commentary right, they'll now have to play another match later.

Melo and Sa have won yet another 5 set match to reach the QF!

Just watching the highlights on the BBC site (you can watch a recording of Today at Wimbledon if you miss the action), and apparently they've been on court over 15 hours now! They've certainly been the story of the men's doubles so far, with their needle-ridden match with the French duo Benneteau and Mahut, which also went to 5 sets, their epic 28-26 in the next round and now this.

Dinky Jo - July 6, 2007 10:52 AM (GMT)
Butorac/Murray have lost the first set in a tiebreak :(

Dinky Jo - July 6, 2007 11:20 AM (GMT)
and they've lost the second set 6-3 :( come on boys - wake up!!!!!!

Dinky Jo - July 6, 2007 11:45 AM (GMT)

booty and stretch win the third set 6-3 :yahoo:

Flame - July 6, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
as phil jones said yesterday:

the legend of melo and sa continues...

what are these guys on? they just put knowles and nestor, a world class team, in straight sets. unreal.

Flame - July 6, 2007 11:59 AM (GMT)
booty and stretch are down a break in the 4th. not looking good now.

Flame - July 6, 2007 12:11 PM (GMT)
