Its good to see Jamie Murray teamed up with Jelena Jankovic! They could really put in a good run! I hope they win! :yahoo:

liam_valid - June 27, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
Venus and Zvonereva (last years finalists) both missing :(

petalp - June 27, 2007 09:20 PM (GMT)
Vera has a wrist injury not entirely dissimlar to that of Andy Murray.. excey it's her non-playing hand!

As a result, two-handed shots are a no-go for her at the moment. It's a little worrying as she has been having problems with her left wrist for a while now. i'd heard a rumour that she needed surgery and then appparently now she doesn't. Who knows?

Hopefully she wil be back on the tour sooner rather than later, but I haven't read anything that incidates that she will be back for the US summer hardcourt season :(

It is interesting that the players who rely on two-handed shots as part of their game can therefore have problems if either of their wrists is playing up.

Also interesting to note that wrist injuries are apparently on the rise in the game due to the amount of effort players are putting in to develop super-spin. Apparently.

I really enjoy mixed doubles!! :D

Some interesting matchups:

Jamie Murray & Jelena Jankovic!! Can that girl play any more tennis I wonder? They have to be a good bet to get to the final stages of the tournament, at the very least.

Bhupathi and Mirza.. Have I just not been paying attention, or is this the first all-Indian mixed doubles pairing in a slam in a very long time? Mind you, Mirza is the first top Indian female player in a long time either!

Apparently Dechy stepped in to replace her doubles partner. Not sure if Ram and Dechy can defend the doubles title on Vera's behalf though.

I'd like to see Nestor and Likhovtseva do well.

I think that Santoro and Bremond will make a good pairing to watch too.

Could both Bryans make yet another doubles final and have one of them win and one of them lose? Surely that would be a first!!

T01 - June 29, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
Yeah, top mens team and top womens team got to gether and are seeded 1 &2 inthe mixed doubles.
Well, Andy Ram and Dechy won the FO this year, so why not?

vivahate - June 29, 2007 10:25 AM (GMT)
bjorkman/molik are the dangerous pairing in that draw. i could see them taking it, although i'll be spewing some canadian nationalism and going with nestor/likhovtseva :)

liam_valid - June 29, 2007 06:56 PM (GMT)
Boggo and South take the first set 6-4 against Groenfeld and Becker

Dinky Jo - June 29, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
this is from jankovic's inteview today:

Q. Are you playing doubles again this afternoon?

JELENA JANKOVIC: I'm playing mixed doubles with Jamie Murray, and I heard the press was ‑‑ it was the funniest thing that I've heard lately, was that somebody said that on BBC they heard that I have a sweet spot for Jamie Murray, and I said, where did they get that from? If I don't really know the guy, how can I like him or how can I have a ‑‑ and just to confirm that, it's not true (laughter).

Q. So did he ask you to play?

JELENA JANKOVIC: He asked me to play. Actually his agent said I was first on his list to play, and I don't know, maybe he has a soft ‑‑ (laughter) ‑‑ I don't really want to get involved with that. All I care is we're playing mixed doubles and that's it, which I don't play so often. It's not my thing. I'm not a good doubles player. I don't think I'm going to be useful for him. He made a bad choice, I think.

Russiafan - June 29, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
Boggo and South defeated Becker and Groenefeld 6-4, 7-6. I saw part of that match from my vantage point on court 2. Mel and Boggo seemed to be having a good time playing together and stayed positive throughout the match :ok:

she played so well though, to me it was the highlight of her year. She looked great, played well and it was only Zvonerevas inspired play that stopped her winning the title. Lets just blame Bryan  roflmao

For anyone who is interested, Murray/jankovic are playing Bloomfield/Borwell at the moment. :)

Bloomfield/Borwell were a break down, but managed to break back - kind of luckily - and are now at deuce 3-3 in the first set

Dinky Jo - July 4, 2007 04:59 PM (GMT)
bit of a shock here - Bloomfield/Borwell have just taken the first set 6-3 :yikes: jankovic/Murray don't seem to be playing brilliantly as a team

vivahate - July 4, 2007 05:00 PM (GMT)
why should they, have they ever played together before??

SuperBRAT - July 4, 2007 06:20 PM (GMT)
Anyway, more shocking and excellent news. :D

Boggo and South have just taken the first set against No1 seeds Bryan and Raymond! :o

dl04 - July 4, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
I love mix doubles, you get the mix of the two gender's styles, its great :D

Boggo and south i cant believe they got a set off the two best doubles players in the world :o some excellent tennis being played.......

vivahate - July 4, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
mixed deserves more attention than it gets. there is so much more variety and shot making than the bash from the baseline game of todays tour players. pretty tennis

Flame - July 4, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
COME ON BOGGO AND SOUTH!!

trisco - July 4, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)

In the world of doubles, its the equivalent of Bogdanovic beating Federer, Bryan and raymond are arguably the best doubles players on the planet right now, so itss such a huge win :o

Russiafan - July 4, 2007 09:44 PM (GMT)
I have been a fan of Mel South since her wins at 10K level in 2005 and have followed her progress via her website (www.melaniesouth.net) however even with her win at Wimbey last year and Eastbourne this year it has always been clear to me that although her shot production is excellent, her movement will always hinder her progress. So I'm REALLY happy that she has made this break through in doubles. I wonder if they can play as a pair at the US Open Mixed event???

Dinky Jo - July 4, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
not a mention on the BBC site as of yet?? :(

Dinky Jo - July 4, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
oh, and Jankovic and Murray won in 3 :) so far, good news on the doubles front then :D

SuperBRAT - July 4, 2007 11:44 PM (GMT)
I enjoyed watching Jonas win a tight MD match today. My god has he got quick reflexes.

Dinky Jo - July 5, 2007 11:23 AM (GMT)
Jankovic/Murray are a set and a break up on the number 3 seeds Knowles/Yan :yahoo:

Dinky Jo - July 5, 2007 12:33 PM (GMT)

Dinky Jo - July 5, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
can;t believe it - Murray/Jankovic have got to play their third round match now

but well done boggo/south - really hope they win this

MissSospanFach - July 5, 2007 02:06 PM (GMT)
Hi apologies if this has already been asked but does anyone know why Sam Stosur and Bob Bryan have pulled out of the mixed?

Thanks!

Dinky Jo - July 5, 2007 02:13 PM (GMT)
from the wimby site:

14.05: Loads of people have been emailing in about Bob Bryan and Samantha Stosur’s withdrawal from the mixed doubles. Well, I’ve done some digging and found out Stosur is suffering from a stomach bug.

and welcome btw :)

Flame - July 5, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)
wow that really opens up the draw. a british winning pair this year perhaps?

MissSospanFach - July 5, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
Thanks very much for that! Hopefully we'll see an all Brit (well including Jankovic!) semi-final to ensure Brit representation in the final!

Dinky Jo - July 5, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
that would be amazing :D Boggo and South seem to be playing well as a team - maybe this could be a better future for Boggo - as a doubles specialist?

Flame - July 5, 2007 02:29 PM (GMT)
set and a break. come on guys!!

Scotsguy - July 5, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
Make that a double break!!!

Are there ranking points involved in the Mixed???
