She seems to be doing ok considering her back problem. Is that all sorted? I'm not a huge fan, I see her as someone who keeps gettign to semis and quarters and then not quite having the extra needed to go all the way. I have picked her to get to the quarters though.

She's certainly not butch Sam. I met her at Eastbourne last week and she's very fit indeed. THe TV puts at least 15 lbs on her. I was quite shocked at how fit she looked (or rather slim). She's a lovely girl also, very, very friendly. I told her that she's looking fit and she said to me "finally, I'm feeling OK". I asked her if I could take a picture of her and she said "Lars (her coach) will take a picture of us together if you want" and I said "yeh great" and he did. She's a darling, she really is. Whenever I saw her, she always said "hi" to me. One of the friendliest girls there ... apart from Kveta Peshke, who's mega friendly and who remembered me from breakfast when she saw me at the tournament.

They are all lovely girls really. :D

You must have some photo album with all those tennis stars you track down. :D

Tennis_Mad_Andy - June 29, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
The girl I'm routing for is out of the singles :( Anna Chakvetadze

vivahate - June 30, 2007 07:47 AM (GMT)
with Martina out, i'm throwing my support behind vaidisova or sharapova.

liam_valid - June 30, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
Sharapova through easily enough against Sugiyama

Kuzzy a set and a break up against Radwanska

Ivanovic has taken the first set off Rezai 6-3

Petrova a set and a break up against Ruano Pascual

Dementieva a set up against Paszek 6-3. In that set she was 73% first serves in and only double fault out of 5 srevice games :o :D

Good day so far for the Russians

Scotsguy - July 1, 2007 07:45 AM (GMT)
Maria for Wimbledon!!!!! She has that look in her eyes which is saying 'watch me go' as if trying to prove everyone wrong.

Also hope Dementieva has a good tourny.

Gutted that Anna is out that really was a shame, and Safina's gone as well.

Sorry Liam but I don't really care for Petrova....

liam_valid - July 3, 2007 11:54 PM (GMT)
oh well, just Kuzzy and Sharapova left in the singles :(

well, kuznetsova stands alone

Manzikert - July 5, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
Well, Kuznetsova (who didn't merit a pic on the first page of the thread yet went further than the rest of her countrywomen) has now gone out.

Still she made a good showing for herself, and for the record I actually like the hairdo for all the criticism. It gives her an edgier on-court presence I think, because she's a bit on the bland side in that respect. We could've had an all-braided quarterfinal if Venus were still sporting hers from back in the day. B)

i agree about the hair, such a simple thing makes me view her totally different :D

the good news is Petrova is still on for a wimbledon title (with Kuzzy) despite people laughing of my prediction that she would ;)

BIG-TODGER - July 5, 2007 05:27 PM (GMT)
Venus is has looked awesome in the last two matches, i've hardly seen her play better.
What kind of surprised me was that when she was asked after her match how come she was suddenly playing so great, she suggested that this was no big deal and that she had been playing like this in other tournaments-the usual i always play well response-strange the lack of objectivity about her own game.

9mmSuzi - July 5, 2007 06:34 PM (GMT)
It is the thing with Venus ....she always plays like a`mad woman" at wimbers. I think much like justine at French, having been there 3 times, it's the charm really. I dearly love  seeing her play like this..its just good for the game of tennis. And please guys don't read too much into this :P but she was looking great in her cute shorts and long legs... at least from my sofa in the living room.... :P

Serena should take a cue and take an inch or two of the thighs.. and hopefully she can slip inot a pair of those !!

Kuznetsova however, was again..too easy.....she has the talent but doesn't raise her game when it matters..... Jelena Kutzy Ana Ivanovic.. these girls don't have that gritty second gear. Mind you, the first is pretty darn good..but you need that second gear like Nadal ..and grind out the game when your opponent begins to charge.

And I realised Justine also reads something on her laps during the breaks...does anyone know what it says ,,seems Serena has made this a trendy thing in the mordern era of the wta.

To answer, Todger..that attitude is a very american way of always looking at your performances.....ie...sports psychology..never say you failed , say you didnt meet your expectations......(exactly like politicians...)... Most of their athletes always speak that way..especially tiger woods..the glass is always half full never half empty. Plus, they also have equally exciting lives off court to balance the tennis..so they get their kicks anyway..why die for tennis....?

Ana against Venus will be interesting but seeing her play like this ..I begin to see why the tour seems weak when these top players are not on their game. Because all the other girls left are too baseline huggers....
and not much variety to their game,, the few who try ie Hantuchova are too mentally fragile with no second win when push comes to shove..

Well...we''ll see.... :)

  Hello SG...... nice to see back... hope your semester was fantastic.......

:) As they say.....beauty lies in the eyes of the beer holder..... or
the wine glass holder in some cases...so ....

but you have to agree that she does dress a bit more conservative and "sane "than Serena....

Hey Suzi   I had a great term thanks, I hope you've been well since I last spoke to you :)

Yeah I though both Williams sisters had bad outfit choices this year.

BTW, what did you think of the lost finale??? I was gutted that my favourite character was killed off, oh well such is Lost....

Well she has been playing well all year, just in patches, it's just been a matter of it all coming together. Now it has :)

I guess that what she's getting at....

liam_valid - July 6, 2007 12:40 PM (GMT)
Petrova and Kuzzy down a break to second seeds Black and Huber :(

liam_valid - July 6, 2007 02:48 PM (GMT)
Petrova and Kuzzy out :( turns out the Russians werent that rivetting after all

SerenaW19 - July 6, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
It was quite a good match though. It's no shame in losing to Black and Huber, they've been the hottest team this year and Black was on fire today :)

Are any Russian left in Wimbledon at all now?

liam_valid - July 6, 2007 04:38 PM (GMT)
Likhovtseva is still in the mixed with Nestor, and they will play Boggo and South in the 1/4s
