Title: Henman vs Lopez
Description: Round 2...
Wise_Analyst - June 27, 2007 03:25 PM (GMT)
Players about to come on out court.
I fancy Lopez for this, but I also fancied Moya for the previous match, so hopefully I'll be wrong again. Henman does generally enjoy playing lefties, and Lopez has been pretty rubbish for a while now, so it's more than winnable.

I'd like to see Henman do it - 2nd week would be great too if he can make it.
Pebs - June 27, 2007 04:22 PM (GMT)
I think it might go the distance again - though Tim seemed to come out strong for the few minutes they were on court.
Am keeping it all crossed that Henman comes through unscathed
dl04 - June 27, 2007 04:38 PM (GMT)
I dunno, i think Tim has an edge here. I cant see if Lopez can sustain his serving and net-play long enough. He has a lot of options Lopez, but often comes unfounded as to what option to use......
Tim has to stay mentally tough......

you'll be happy to know that i haven't bet on henman so at least he won't be hit by the curse of Flame.

Flame you are a great character :D Bit of a betting man! I am not a betting man and I won't be in the future either because I don't want to gett addicted to that sort of thing, my mums boyfriend does it and put it this way, the casino and bookies are always the winners! But you are a character and it makes me laugh how you bet on certain people :P
Cmonnn Tim!! Umbrellas are back up, I knew this would happen.
Flame - June 27, 2007 04:52 PM (GMT)
you're a clever boy Andy, don't gamble it's not worth it.
do as i say, don't do as i do. :P

Haha :P I can understand why you would do it though... Because I think people develop an addiction to it if they put a bet on and win their first bet and then think.. "Hmm yeh this is quite good im gunna put some more on!" then if they lose that one they keep putting bets on until they win and then it turns into a big addiction.
My mums boyfriend must have blew thousands over the years playing poker, betting on horses, going casino etc... Mugs game but I can see why people do it.

They are now showing the Henman vs Moya match highlights from 9-9 in the 5th now on BBC, Arrrghhhh I cant relive this! roflmao
SuperBRAT - June 27, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
I know! I want to see some live tennis now :D The BBC havent; covered a decent match all day. We had to endure Roddick trashing Udomchoke. All the matches I faniced were not televised.
trisco - June 28, 2007 12:33 PM (GMT)
5-4 Henman C'mon Tim now break..
trisco - June 28, 2007 12:41 PM (GMT)
Looks ike we're heading for a tiebreakk
Flame - June 28, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
really let that set slip away. oh timmy!
trisco - June 28, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
Knew as soon as Henman hit the volley straight back to Lopez at 3-1 up it was gonna be a bad tiebreak..
trisco - June 28, 2007 12:51 PM (GMT)
1-0 Lopez..
Flame, change your sig to something a bit more positive! It might bring him luck then! :P
trisco - June 28, 2007 12:56 PM (GMT)
Hmm.. Lopez is playing extremely well here. Not sure whether Henman has the beief and he seems a step slower today..
trisco - June 28, 2007 12:57 PM (GMT)
Another easy service game for Lopez
2-1
Flame - June 28, 2007 12:57 PM (GMT)
tim looks really flat. that nicked tiebreak has shocked him a bit.

It really has hasn't it... Doesn't seem the same player to the first set
trisco - June 28, 2007 01:02 PM (GMT)
Love service game again for Lopez
3-2
trisco - June 28, 2007 01:06 PM (GMT)
Good hold for Henman from 0-30 down..
I'm talking to myslef
barrystar - June 28, 2007 01:08 PM (GMT)
Is not this match a classic demonstration of the one thing that Henman's armoury has lacked - sheer power and weight of shot.
He is a fantastic volleyer precisely because he does not have a crushing serve to come in behind.
He gets so few cheap points, especially against the power merchants. It is a minor miracle that he has done as well as he has.
trisco - June 28, 2007 01:12 PM (GMT)
I think he did have a bit more puch a few years ago.. or more consistently punchy serves should I say. Where as now he seems a tad slower.
The lack of power on groundshots seem apparent these days so it is a good job he is a good volleyer and one of the best grass court players of his era.
liam_valid - June 28, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
:yikes: as soon as i tune in, hes 3 break points down, but hes pulled the game out :phew:
Oh hang on its still duece, i thought the game was over
vivahate - June 28, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
what a point to win the set for lopez
barrystar - June 28, 2007 01:42 PM (GMT)
Oh dear - 6-7, 6-7. Now he has an absolute mountain to climb in a match where, so far, there have been no breaks of service.
What a game tennis is - Lopes has won 79 points to Henman's 74, but has a massive 2 sets - 0 lead.
Hopefully the long match against Moya won't now start to exact its toll.
Flame - June 28, 2007 01:42 PM (GMT)
that last point was pure agony.
Wise_Analyst - June 28, 2007 01:44 PM (GMT)
Rubbish result for tennis, this. Lopez is the epitome of a nobody. I thought he'd win, but that doesn't stop me being any less annoyed
Although McEnroe just said Henman has never come from 2 sets down at Wimbledon, he did actually do so against Nieminen (the year when he promptly lost in 5 to Tursunov next round).
Lopez breaks at the start of the third - doesn't look like that' comeback's gonna happen. :(
barrystar - June 28, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
Oh gawd - broken in the first game. Now it's the twin peaks of Kilimanjaro that he has to climb.
Never say never with this guy, but he's not the favourite.
Queen Justine - June 28, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)
Oh dear .... not looking good :(
Lopez can either be bloody fabulous or useless ... looks like he's being bloody marvelous today ..... unfortunately
 Tim ... see you next year

But wait - he's broken back!!!!
All he needs to do is keep that up for the next 3 sets against a man 7 years younger than him, easy-peasy :P

lol..
Awww. I really hope he can pull a miracle off here. It would be absolutely amazing.
Maybe we shouldn't be writing him off, maybe he can do it?
Wise_Analyst - June 28, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
I think Lopez can sometimes be a bit of a choker, the commentators seem to be implying the same thing. He barely stumbled over the line in that second tie-break (I didn't see the first). Henman can definitely still win this because he's better than Lopez, but he'll need to play 3 sets without letting his concentration drop - tough ask.
An awesome backhand enables him to go 4-2 up now, with his 4th game on the trot!
