Title: Wednesday 27th June - Day 3

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 11:40 AM (GMT)
Why is there no play on Centre Court and Court 1 atm?

Elena leads Dechy by a 62 set

Russiafan - June 27, 2007 11:49 AM (GMT)
Rain has stopped play....

Elena is a set and break up against Dechy. Double Fault stats so far are 1 for Dementieva and 2 for Dechy

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 11:51 AM (GMT)
O crap i see the covers now

WimbledonAce - June 27, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
Covers are off apparently :yahoo:

GS2 - June 27, 2007 12:25 PM (GMT)
Hope plays resumes soon.

I'm really looking forward to the Serena/Molik match. Will be interesting to see if Alicia can make an impression.

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 12:29 PM (GMT)
I just checked and the last time Serena and Molik played was in 1999 :o

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
Incredible point, terrific all court play by both girls to earn Serena a break point, Serena dominates the next rally but over cooks her winner and it's deuce.

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 12:45 PM (GMT)
Well since sending that winner long, Serena has fallen apart a little and is now trailing 3-1 with Molik to serve

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
She holds to love 4-1

Russiafan - June 27, 2007 12:49 PM (GMT)
Looks like another Venus-Kudryavtseva situation where the Williams Sister plays poorly for a bit then suddenly gets her head in gear and wins

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 12:50 PM (GMT)
Watching Venus play yesterday was obviously bad for Serena as she is now trying to play like her.

What is the point spending all that time training to get in shape if she's going to play like this!

Ahh well, she pulls it back from 0-30 to hold serve.

Alicia serving to make it 5-2

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 12:58 PM (GMT)
Good 'ol Serena levels things up at 4-4

Now break here

Flame - June 27, 2007 01:10 PM (GMT)
dementieva bottles it serving for the match. quelle suprise! :P

Flame - June 27, 2007 01:32 PM (GMT)
elena wins a remarkable tiebreak for the match. it's great to see the big smile on her face as the weight gets lifted off her shoulder.

Russiafan - June 27, 2007 01:36 PM (GMT)
Thank God Elena pulled out a win in straight sets. She played impeccably in the first set but the DFs came fast and thick in the second.

Safina vs Bondarenko (Katerina) is a grudge match - Russia vs Ukraine. Apparrently there is sniping going on in Russian between the two. Katerina took a tumble yet Dinara seemed indifferent. They seem to want to beat the sh*t out of eachother at the moment.

Poor old Anna Smashnova ends her career with a double bagel from Muller.

Flame - June 27, 2007 01:42 PM (GMT)
i'm praying to god that tati can pull out her match. at one stage i had a 5k win (of real money in euro folks!!) riding on her opponent. but i bailed out when it got hairy.

Flame - June 27, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
golovin's serving for the match! come on tati, save my sanity!!

Flame - June 27, 2007 01:49 PM (GMT)
she's done it. phewee that was a close one. sod this gambling lark.

hsieh actually served for it in the decider.

what a competitor that girl is. tati never knows when she's beaten.

Amazing how an off-form Molik was able to get to the tie-break with Serena

I thought this would be an easy 6-2 6-2 for her.

roflmao at Serena not handling the slice

Martina N isn't bedst pleased with the noise Serena makes is she?

All hail Martina N

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 01:52 PM (GMT)
It's no news that Navratilovas doesn't like grunting, she's the one who made it an issue to begin with. And now she and the whingers continue to plague us with their "issues", instead of actually appreciating the match

Flame - June 27, 2007 01:54 PM (GMT)
martina is always moaning about something.

SerenaW19 - June 27, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
Well done Serena for coming through a patchy match. I think she's partly just getting used to her new gold embroided racquet though :D

And well done Alicia for playing so well, tough draw but hopefully now you can build on this good match :ok: Even if some would prefer to rage about how bad her form has been lately

Queen Justine - June 27, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
Martina and Barry Davies just called Serena a drama queen and is over the top with her actions and screaming roflmao

They both said that Fed and Henin don't make that noise and they are both no.1's

All hail Martina N, Fed and Henin

No but Nadal and Serena make plenty of noise and they both lead their head to heads with Henin and Federer roflmao roflmao roflmao

It's no secret Serena's a drama queen anyway, she's a diva through and through; and has Navratilova been taking lessons in hypocrisy if she said that

LDF - June 27, 2007 02:23 PM (GMT)
I was pleasantly surprised by how well Alicia played today - she really made Serena work hard for the win. Her backhand slice worked to great effect, and she served well enough to always keep herself in contention.

Serena played better than in her first round match, especially on serve (10 aces :D), but her groundstrokes could still do with a little more work.

Queen Justine - June 27, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
Can Sam Smith praise Henin anymore?

Stop it already .... you sound worse than me roflmao

She absolutely loves her ... she was watching her practice most days and I asked her what she thought of her and her reply was "she's definitely the best

I do love Sam, she's so down to earth B)

Queen Justine - June 27, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
There you go .... Sam just confirmed what I said! She just said "the best" after that volley!

I know she needs more play I think, her ground strokes are going off to often. A bit wild.

Yes alright we get the message. Not all of have to be told things 5 times before we understand them

I particularly liked what she said at the AO Final:

"I think these are the best first 5 games that anyone has EVER played on this court."

Also, "No-one played this well on the WTA last year"

As usual, WS fans live in the past roflmao

See ya ... I got a match to watch ... Justine is 5-0 up .... and I love to listen to Sam and Tracey drooling over Justine

LDF - June 27, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
Justine is crusing at the moment, already 5-0 up.

I'm not watching this match, so I can't comment on her play ;)

The last line was not made up, Sam said it; even if you did erase it from your selective memory.

And January is hardly the distant past...also Serena just won a few moments ago in case you didn't notice...or do you only comment on her flaws? So Im hardly living in the past.

Yes she did win against Molik an off-form player, but it wasn't an easy win was it? A tie-break against an off-form Molik roflmao

Anyway, damn you Justine, I wanna see you on court longer than 50 mins ..... 3-1 in 2nd set :lmaao:

Molik may not have been in the best form before this tournament, but she was very good in her opening round and played well today - she would've tested most top players.

I saw her in Eastbourne last week too (playing the Strawberry Tea Cup, a consolation tournament for those who lost in R1) and she looked great in winning against Morigami in the final.

Molik played really well and is an experienced former top 10 player with quite a good record on grass. Hardly a disaster.

LDF - June 27, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
Hingis has made the third round, defeating Aiko Nakamura 6-1 6-2 :)

No, not extreemely surprising, surprising though. They've both played a lot of amtches in 8 years not to have met each other a single time.

Anyway, Justine closing in on the match now. At least Dusevina has woken up a little to force Justine into playing even better tennis.
