Title: Monday, June 25
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
Roger's match has just started --- he won his first service game to 15.
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)
What a pristine grass court
Looks funny though without the roof. According to Martina Nav: "I'm glad it's raining as at least I know it's Wimbledon - because the way Centre Court looks is confusing to me."
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 01:57 PM (GMT)
Fed doesn't capitalize on a number of break chances, and Gaba holds for 1-1.

deja-vu anyone?
WimbledonAce - June 25, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
1-1 in the Haas match and theyve been taken off
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:06 PM (GMT)
You would have thought that Fed would be in a hurry to get this over with, but so far it's a more pedestrian affair ... 3-2 to Fed with serve.
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:08 PM (GMT)
Fed seems to have warmed up enough now :P , turns up the volume a bit and breaks to love. 4-2.
Nick Havoc - June 25, 2007 02:11 PM (GMT)
Scoreboard link is set properly now, btw. :)
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:12 PM (GMT)
Roger holds with ease --- it looks like he's beginning to feel at home again, despite the different look. It should be all one-way traffic from here on ... Roger one game away from the first set.
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:15 PM (GMT)
Roger wastes two set points, but takes the third --- first set 6-3.
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:16 PM (GMT)
Roddick seems to be rampaging all over Gimelstob.
Dinky Jo - June 25, 2007 02:19 PM (GMT)
aww...doesn't Rog look all posh in his little outfit

Roger up 3-1 in the second set now.

Bits of it. I should be doing some work, but I keep being drawn back to the living room to watch a bit more ...
Roger looks in pretty decent form overall. That being said, he had at least one set point there, but Gabashvili hangs on to his serve to make it 5-2. Roger now to serve for the set.
Manzikert - June 25, 2007 02:38 PM (GMT)
Ginepri takes the first set 6-3 against Gonzalez. I had a feeling that opening-round match-up would cause trouble for the Chilean. It's too soon to tell if the No 5 seed will have a first-round exit at the second Slam running, though. The American is still in a mighty slump after all and may actually be the more mentally weak of the two.
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:40 PM (GMT)
6-3 6-2 it is. Gabashvili to serve to open the third.

:D thanks MJT - i'm just following scores 'cos i'm at work (there were benefits to being unemployed i'm discovering..... :P ) but Roger seems to have stepped it up a bit after the first few games of the first set?
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:48 PM (GMT)
Roger really in good form now, as he breaks right at the beginning of the third set (despite Gabashvili not playing badly at all).
I'm still waiting for the traditional mid-match blip, though.

Best thing to do is to get a job where you can work from home sometimes :D
Manzikert - June 25, 2007 02:52 PM (GMT)
From 5-2 in the second Gonzalez loses three games in a row and is pegged to 5-all by Ginepri. Oof.
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:53 PM (GMT)
The first-ever hawk-eye challenge at Wimbledon is made by Gabashvili. The ball was called good, and the call was right --- by about a hair. The Russian applauds the line judge for his call.
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 02:54 PM (GMT)
Roger up 2-1 with a break.

it was made by Gimelstob according to the BBC website. Gabashvili has the honour of the first hawk-eye challenge on centre court at wimbledon
| QUOTE |
| We have seen the first Hawkeye challenge at Wimbledon. It came in a Justin Gimelstob service game at 30-15. He served down the centre and the shot was called out so he used one of his three challenges to question the call. The big screen came into play, we saw the path that the ball took and it was a good call as the ball was wide." |

I'll correct myself --- apparently there was already a challenge by Gimelstob on Court 1. I didn't realize they had HE over there as well.
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 03:00 PM (GMT)
Thanks DJ --- I just saw that on the beeb site myself and moved quickly to correct myself. Obviously not quickly enough!
Re: third-set blip ... Fed faces his first break point of the match. However, he is having none of it and goes on to hold, so I'm not sure if this counts as a slump yet ...
Manzikert - June 25, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
In the battle of mental giants :P from leading 4-2 in the tiebreaker Ginepri doesn't score another point, and Gonzalez levels things a set apiece 3-6, 7-6(4). That's probably the end of the American's threat for an upset.
Dinky Jo - June 25, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)

Fed wins - without a second or third set blip! I'm most impressed...... :D
mightyjeditribble - June 25, 2007 03:18 PM (GMT)
I could kill whoever is in charge of the BBC coverage. They take Roger off BBC1 to instead show Cavaday *not* take match point against Hingis. The consequence was having two channels on interactive with the Hingis match, but no channel with Roger.
After Cavaday loses the set, they switch back to show Roger taking match point against Gabashvili.
Well done Fed --- and welcome back to Wimbledon!

I know what you mean - shambolic!
Nick Havoc - June 25, 2007 03:40 PM (GMT)
Good start for Fed, though, facing (and saving) just the one break point in the entire match. Perhaps he was right, that skipping Halle would not impede his transition to grass.
Manzikert - June 25, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
Good start for Henman, up 3-1 against Moya already.
Roddick wraps it up in straights despite being made to work a bit, 6-1, 7-5, 7-6(3).
Dinky Jo - June 25, 2007 06:50 PM (GMT)
Just a few other updates:
20th seed Ferrero is down two sets to hajek
24th seed Chela is down two sets to Becker
And Del Potro lost the first set to Sanguinetti
