Howdy people,
Shameless plug here for my favourite band in the world ever part 2!
After 6-7 years one of the best British rock bands of the 90's have reformed.
They burst onto the music scene in 1996 with Tattva, something altogether different compared to what was around at the time, namely, that big bag of **** called Oasis :D Sorry to any Oasis fans. ;)
Another hit single, Hey Dude followed and the hit Album, K.
They put together some of the best lose yourself, catchy, wig-out rock around, harking back to the sixties but with an altogether more modern feel.
Another album followed in 1999, didn't do quite so well, mainly thanks to a backlash against Kula Shaker from the knobs at NME who decided Crispian Mills, the lead singer didn't quite fit the bill when it came to Britpop, Mills had lead a priviliged sorta childhood, son of Hayley Mills and Grandson of the late Sir John Mills. Because of this NME decided, however good the music was, to write him off as a toff who had been to India on Mommy's money and to denounce the music as psudeo psychedlic tosh, ignoring the fact it was extremely catchy good old rock.
Mills made a few (possibly light hearted) dodgy comments in interviews to do with morals and what Mills believed in that NME jumped upon and pushed the fore instead of concentrating on the music. Music journalists = failed bitter musicians. :D
Anyways, they are back now with a new album, due for release in July, titled Strangefolk. The first single is Second Sight and much to my joy, is pretty good.
The whole album is a more mature sound to their first release which fits in well as their fans are all a bit older now.. 10 years older to be precise
It is an album that grows on you and one that I am thoroughly enjoying at the mo, (downloaded from a torrent but I WILL still be buying :) )
There is a catchy little song about George Bush that plays on words a little bit. I'll try and post the vids below.
Anyways, I thought I would let you all know just in case any of you remember and enjoyed their music. :D
The one below is Dictator of the Free World which is a very shoddy quickly put together piece for MTV Japan, Japan are big KS fans and they needed a promo quickly.
The other one below is a bit better and the new single Second Sight. :D

Ah yes.. Kula Shaker!
I saw them in '96, was a pretty hot ticket back then. They were very good 'live' although I do remember Crispin referring to his experience of writing Tattva as having some 'Divine cosmic intervention from another galaxy' or something!!
It was that sort of thing that probably got the backs up of the jaded hacks at NME. (NME writers should go into room 101, along with that screechy bi*ch Julie Burchill  )
I thought that Tattva was great! I also enjoyed 'Hush' too, and 'Govinda' was ok too. I had some friends who were big fans. I think that they did have a very devoted fanbase for a while.
Anyway, they were definitely a healthy antidote to the new laddism that was prevasive in indie music at the time, and it's good to see that they have continued to enjoy some success. Hopefully their music upon their return will not disappoint :)

I liked them the 'K' album was fantastic, I could listen to it over and over.
Not amused with you saying Oasis were crap in comparison though naughty Trisco :cop: Both were highly derivative IMO but then what isn't? even the Beatles were derivative. :) Hush was a cover of Deep Purple I think. They were heavily influenced by that kidn fo stuff and al teh late 60s psychadelia which was fun.
I do remember going to a party and I had Oasis, Blur and KulaShaker Cds to play. The host woudl not let me play Kula cos they were too middle class and stuck up or something. roflmao People did seem to have a problem with them compared to Blur and Oasis didn't they? Don't get it really, I enjoyed them anyway.
