Title: "The Music Festivals Thread'
Description: Glasto, T In Park, Reading etc
Scotsguy - March 23, 2007 11:59 PM (GMT)
Reading and Leeds, Glastonbury, T in the Park, the Download festival etc....
Anyone going to any of these this year???
I'm off to T in the Paark on the Saturday. Razaorlight and the Killers are headlining-Tje Gossip, Klaxons and The view also playing.....
welshboy91 - March 24, 2007 09:22 AM (GMT)
I REALLY wanted to go to Oxygen or IOW this year but I couldn't get tickets
stradlin21 - March 24, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
none this year, just not possible right now
been the Leeds fest 4 times, totally brilliant every time
Notice how its always called the Reading Festival yet when asked, all the bands much prefer Leeds! and why wouldn't you!
couple of years and i'll be going again, as long as they get some decent bands
PEARL JAM ROCKED! the other year
Pebs - March 25, 2007 11:51 AM (GMT)
I think its called Reading Festival because it was Reading for flipping yonks before Leeds got in on the act.
I was hoping that Reading would have a decent lineup this year to make it worth the dosh, but have decided not to bother.
petalp - March 25, 2007 12:05 PM (GMT)
I can't believe how much in demand festivals are these days!
People often seem to get tickets before any lineup is announced. So maybe it's not about the music anymore, more about being at an event?
I mean, look at Glastonbury. People had to register before bands were announced. And T In The Park had sold out about a third of its tickets about 6 months ago.
I don't like the idea of having to buy a ticket and then seeing who will be playing. It doesn't seem right.
As for Reading/ Leeds... Leeds is an extension of Reading in many ways, with the same artists playing. Easy to blur the lines in that respect, no-one should develop a chip on their shoulder about it really.

I went ot Glasto once, got sunstroke and hallucinated in a tent for a day due to this and alcohol dehydration. roflmao I wa sin a priviledged position of beign with a trader so we had a powerpoint for a kettle and shared a bog with 60 not 60,000. The bogs swere still minging and nto sure if I coudl cope with not showerign for 4 days and sleeping on a rock again at my age! roflmao
The higlights though were watchign the Shamen with a spliff :D Billy Bragg  , who I was going to marry but some other woman got in there first i think. :Oasis, who I blame for my drunken illness the next day, Gill Scott Heron, the GF of rap, The Charlatans - I cant; remember the rest but I missed Pulpand Jamiroquai -band clash, they have so many stages with miles to walk between with acts running simultaneously. Seeing the sun rise after a niht doing god knows what cos I cannot rememberwas lovely. :D
petalp - June 23, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Have been enjoying glastonbury on, oh the umpteen channels that the beeb are showing it on!!
As far as I can see, it's bbc2, bbc3, bbc4 and bbci! :yikes:
Anyone else watching it on and off? Anyone care?
I'm currently enjoying a CSS live set, which includes a rather fun cover of the L7 classic 'Pretend We're Dead'... yee ha!!!
Oh and a quick reminder that the 7 stages of rock programme is on bbc2 at 9:30 this evening.. this time it's grunge, Nirvana, Pixies Pumpkins, Chillis, etc etc.... :B&B:

petalp - June 23, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
I'm really enjoying the set by CSS right now. They have great pop songs and are a lot of fun!!
If you have heard or like any of their songs then I'd definitely recommend their CD.. has great song titles like 'Art Bitch' and 'Music is my hot hot sex', oh and erm 'Meeting Paris Hilton'
Here's one of their tracks: 'Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above'

petalp - June 24, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
Just getting back into it after a 90s nostalgia fest..
Currently enjoying some Manic Street Preachers, even tho I haven't liked anything they've done since the Holy Bible back in 1994!!
Nicky Wire, you've piled on the weight!! :o
Was nice to see Nina Perssen (singer of the cardigans  ) sing with them on that single 'your love is not enough'
petalp - June 24, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
Have also enjoyed:
Arcade Fire
Rufus Wainwright
and Bat For Lashes.. :D

Fantastic album..
Although I never been that much of a Manics fan.. Can't quite see what the fuss was all about with their album late nineties.. Although I forget what it is called.
What happened to the guy who disappeared? Was he ever found?
Also The Who are on at the mo..
I don't wanna possibly drag up old news but wasn't he arrected for *something* I guess he musta been found not guilty otherwise he wouldn't be there.
If he wasn't guilty than it is pretty bad that he can get tarnished with that.. although I guess that is the media for you.
trisco - June 24, 2007 10:15 PM (GMT)
The Who are putting on a good show anyways :D
I wonder how many kids in the crowd know the tunes..
petalp - June 24, 2007 10:16 PM (GMT)
Hey Trisco your faves 'Just Jack are being shown just now..

Yip, the Holy Bible is great. The later ones everything must go , and this is the truth(?) were pretty erm, ick..
Richey Edwards was the guy that disappeared. He wrote a lot of the lyrics for the Holy Bible..
Pete Townsend was arrested for visiting dodgy websites.. found innocent..

God it's easy to foget tracks that would normally roll off your tongue as you get older isn't it. I've been sat tonight trying to think of a few songs when chatting to a friend and not remembering anything..
