Thank DJ hers hoping A Rod is in Rafas half of the draw

Manzikert - June 22, 2007 09:19 AM (GMT)
Well, it's tough to keep track of who is where, but as far as opening round match-ups I've noticed:

Moya v Henman
Clement v Mahut (Queen's semi rematch!)
Lapentti v Murray
Spadea v Ljubicic

ark_28 - June 22, 2007 09:24 AM (GMT)
Some interesting first round match ups there

ark_28 - June 22, 2007 09:24 AM (GMT)
Roddick plays Gimelstob

Manzikert - June 22, 2007 09:26 AM (GMT)
Nadal v Fish

Oof. Although Nadal did beat him at straights at Queen's last year. Not ideal to play someone who missed a seeding by one or two spots, though.

It seems like Berdych and Djokovic are in Nadal's half. Double oof. Heh.

Blake v Andreev
Davydenko v Korolev (all-Russian encounter)

Dinky Jo - June 22, 2007 09:27 AM (GMT)
did anybody catch who Federer drew?

fah51 - June 22, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
I think Fed drew Gabashvilli first round.

Manzikert - June 22, 2007 09:31 AM (GMT)
I missed it, but I do think Roddick is in his half. Poor lad.

'Expert' analysis is trying to say that Moya is a far cry from fighting form, in attempting to play up Henman's prospects. Sitting at No 22 (and 14th in the race), with various finals reached and semis and QFs at big events this year, not the least of which came at the most recent Slam. If Henman were going to face him, though, he'd want it to be on grass.

Monfils v Johansson Hmmm.

I think Henman V Moya will be a really tight match and Henman has a chance.

Moya is obviously in better form but Tim is at home on grass but the fact that grass is so much slower now means you cant rule out Moya either, what do you think?

yeah, i'm pretty sure Roddick is in his half - possibly Djoko too????

Moya is not exactly the best first round draw for poor Tim. Moya got to the semis of Hamburg and the quarters of RG, so it's a bit difficult to say he's not in form. But like you said, the surface may help........

No, pretty certain Djokovic is in Nadal's half, with Berdych, Youznhy and Hewitt.

Indeed, all these guys are in Rafa side...It will be funny to see what will be the outcome there...What is sure is that I am ready to pay a good amount to see Berdy against Rafa on the Center Court.. roflmao roflmao

I am expecting a match like in Madrid last year roflmao roflmao

PS: If Rafa will reach the final this year: This is enough to prove, IMO, that he is definitely a very good and dangerous player even on grass BTW

Dark_Necrofear - June 22, 2007 10:21 AM (GMT)
Unlike the cakewalk draw he had last year,Wimbledon has dealt him quite the tester and this will be proof enough if he really wasnt a fluke finalist last year.Lets hope that Berdych can maintain some form!

ObL!v!0N - June 22, 2007 10:43 AM (GMT)
omg I knew Hingis was gonna get a Brit, and she got Cavaday.
I've so got to watch Keothavong v Jankovic, that match is gonna make me laugh so much lol.

Dinky Jo - June 22, 2007 11:06 AM (GMT)
Finally - the Wimbledon website has the draw up....

Manzikert - June 22, 2007 11:12 AM (GMT)
(Seems like this should go in the Men's section.)

PDF version is here

Seeded R16 match-ups:

Federer v Haas
Blake v Gonzalez
-
Roddick v Ljubicic
Gasquet v Murray
--
Nadal v Youzhny
Berdych v Robredo
-
Davydenko v Baghdatis
Hewitt v Djokovic

People will want to make much of a potential third round encounter of Safin v Federer, but nothing will come of it. Nadal is a nemesis magnet. Tursunov seems likely to benefit from either Haas's withdrawal or lack of match practice to come through in his place.

When I saw the draw about 5 minutes ago, I immediatly said "oh no!!" at Henman facing Moya first round. Although now on second thoughts, Moya is more of a clay-court specialist than a grass court specialist. Tim hasn't got too much of a bad draw I dont think, he could face Murray in round 3, now that would be good!

Edit: Just seen the draw now in full on Wimbledon website and if Henman beats Moya he would face either Lopez or Goodall who he would have a realistic chance against either of them in the 2nd round. So even if Tim could reach the 3rd round, it would help his year and his confidence a lot, and his ranking! It is a tough ask for him to beat Moya because he is 60 places higher than Tim and is the favourite, but it's not an impossible task.

 I find the prospect of Henman facing Moya a bit daunting - even on grass....

but keeping it crossed as always :)
