Title: Tornado near my house!

Sam - June 20, 2007 10:03 AM (GMT)
Last Friday, all the big thunderstorms were sweeping inland in the UK. We got hit like many people did, though no flooding or anything like that because our village is on slightly higher ground.

However, in all of the cloud and rain, I picked out the terrifying sight of a tornade funnel, about three fields away from us! I don't know if it had quite landed on the ground, but it was one of those moments where my blood went cold and I felt a little helpless!

I got hold of the car keys and went outside the back to check the wind direction. Had it been blowing our way I was off in the car and outta there! roflmao

Eventually after about two minutes I lost sight of it, so it had either fizzled out or went out of view from my house! Still it was scary!

Anybody else had a similar experience?

No, but outside my front door there was a big puddle so I had to jump over it to avoid getting my feet wet :)

I am not surprised you saw that last friday Sam! there was some crazy storms around and just north of Leicester there was hail, thunder, lightning bolts the lot! I live in south-west Leicester and luckily most of the bad stuff went just north of me.

I think a lot of the countryside in the UK sees quite a few twisters in a year, but many go unreported because they last for around 5-10 seconds on the ground and because they are in the country hardly anyone notices them or reports them.

not a scary experience, but an interesting one!

I was in San José and it was quite windy, as I walked around the corner of the hotel I saw 4 tiny twisters on a paving slab. They were only about a foot high and were mainly dust, but it was interesting to see :)

Sounds interesting :) I've never seen a twister but I did once wake up in the back of a car and kept seeing this fiery thing in the sky. I though I was dreaming. Then it got brighter and I screamed cos I thought something was falling from the sky, it was a comet! roflmao

Yeah that's my side of leicester too (Desford) - i've heard of tornadoes in the UK before, there was one in Birmingham which did considerable damage to a few streets, and one in Selsea a few years back which also did quite a lot. :o

I have no idea whether it hit the ground or not - I suspect that had it done so it would have been capable of doing a fair bit of damage, although had it landed in the position it was in it would have landed in Newbold (think you'll know it), so therefore would actually have given the place a good tidy-up roflmao

Oh it was pretty scary with all of the storm and everything - there were a lot of trees it could have scattered around had it landed thats for sure ;)

I remember being told there was an experiment you can do that creates mini twisters like you stated, involved dry ice, can't remember exactly what you do though...

roflmao roflmao Newbold, yep I know it :P I think you live about 10 miles from me, because I live in Braunstone and we had to get a bus to Desford every day, nightmare!

Nothing here in Brussels, although like for Serena, there were puddles, so I didn't miss the opportunity to push some ugly big-nosed retarded arsders into them :P
However, one of those arsders did make me pay the price. He attempted to kick me, so I blocked him with my foot, but by doing so I've broken it, so I might have to join my friend in the Edith Cavell hospital or need crutches :(

That arsder watches too many mafia movies. I bet that in his head, it was like "We retards are like the mafia...We never forget..."
