Title: Queen's Final, Sunday 17 June
Description: Mahut v Roddick

petalp - June 17, 2007 01:18 PM (GMT)
Hopefully a good match!! :ok:

I like Mahut's style of play.. hopefully he will do himself justice.. who knows, maybe be the first Frenchman to win this title?

petalp - June 17, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
Re; Mahut: a bit of a rarity to see someone serve and volleying with such regularity... feels like a quaint old-style game being brought back!

chetanpv - June 17, 2007 01:21 PM (GMT)
How nice it is to watch serve and volley..I am getting goosebumps.

Cant understand why people dont do this often.

petalp - June 17, 2007 01:25 PM (GMT)
Mahut is a very good volleyer..

So.. has a good serve, is ver tall and athletic (6' 3'' ?) can volley well..

Tailor-made for grass!

hope he gets through the qualifiers for SW19 as he will be a good player to see there too :)

Will he have to play quallies? How many direct entries do they take? He's ranked 106 now. He'll be even higher after this week, but that probably won't help him for SW19 . . .

He will Nick.. he's due to play in them tomorrow I think..

His wins over Lluby and Rafa on Friday came a day too late for him to be in the picture re: the Wimbledon wildcards, which is a shame. Although he's 106 in the world, he would be ranked much higher than that on grass..

petalp - June 17, 2007 01:49 PM (GMT)
Mahut produces yet another cracker of a volley from around shoelace level in the process of saving a break point and holding serve to lead 5-4 in the first set.. :ok:

petalp - June 17, 2007 01:54 PM (GMT)
Fabulous play from Mahut to break Roddick's serve to take the first set 6-4!!

Game on!! :D

chetanpv - June 17, 2007 01:55 PM (GMT)
Splendid play from the frenchman.
First set 6-4..

Indeed! Poor ballgirl getting hit by one of A-Rod's serves.. she seemed ok though thankfully.. :)

I'm loving Mahut I tell you :D

It's a scandal that he has to qualify for wimby, whereas Cilic, de Bakker and Tsonga all have a WC.

Fabulous play from the Frenchman.   I hope he wins!

He's obviously referring to William Renshaw. ;)

dl04 - June 17, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
Mahut is playing such a wonderful match. I'm just loving this intricate, eloquency. His backhand slice is just beautiful to watch, and his volley's are almost Pat Rafter-esque, they're that good technically.

And i love how he's deconstructing Roddick's game as well, making Roddick look like a lame duck out there. His groundstrokes just arent hurting Mahut at all......

I know dl, it's a beautiful spectacle to behold. :D We need more men to play this way. And some women too.

dl04 - June 17, 2007 02:48 PM (GMT)
Mahut just missed an easy CC forehand on matchpoint

And Roddick took the set 9-7

Go Mahut :yahoo:

Im starting to think ARod is getting more 1D as the years go by. He is not worthy to be coached by Jimbo :tsk:

I know what you mean. I have nothing against A Rod personally, he's a nice guy off court from what I can tell, but I'm just unimpressed by has game esp these days. He is playing a god match today though, but I feel the star fo the shwo is Mahut, win or lose.

Oh, I don't think he's that bad SW. his volleying has improved and his backhand too..

The problem is that they couldn't get any worse thn what they were!!

He's also become much better competitor. Connors' influence there..

Just that he needs more improvement re: volleying and backhand. I'd bet he'd love to be able to volley anywhere near as well as Mahut..

Yip, Roddick really starting to apply some pressure now, and Mahut has responded well :ok:

hopefully Mahut can continue this resilience after a very quick love service game from A-Rod.

Twas a shame. Maybe it was just an error, not pressure. Mahut has hardly missed a thing really.
