Title: Queen's Semis Sat 16th June
Description: Tursy v A-Rod, Mahut v Clement

SuperBRAT - June 16, 2007 01:13 PM (GMT)
Aaaargh looks like rain alread! Can't say I'm surprised, I live near London and the worst rain we have had all week is thrashing down today.

My thoughts - Tursy's got the big weapons and a natural eye for a shot; he likes a target and goes for it. His problem is lack of consistency and no plan B if his big missiles miss. He's shown much more consistency this weak though and appears more serious abotu his game. A-Rod might be one of the top grass contenders after Fed, but he really hasn;t convinced me this so far. His form ha sbene scrappy, he's had to win ugly and he's STILL lacking that extra dimension not to mention the voleys. He is well aware fo the need to improve, the big question is though can he? he'll certainly try and step up to the plate today but if Tursy keeps his form and momentum, I think he'll win in 3.

Yeah I missed the start cos I thought it was still raining and then the phone went. Missed 1st set :(

Also pissed that they are putting Clement v Mahut on at the same time on another court. I set the afternoon aside to watch two semis.

I think Tursy is havign one of those strange days! His attempt to volley at the net was pure comic genius. Anyoen see? roflmao

'Tis indeed a real swizz. I'd feel cheated if I'd been there, have to wait most of the day for tennis and then have both matches on at once...

Why can't they play one semi final after the other? It's not as if daylight will be an issue, is it?

I know! First match is over at 5.30. They must have been really scared of the rain. To add insult to injury, tThey have now finished the coverage altogether despite the Mahut v Clement match still being in play.

I'm so pissed off, becasue I have freeview and they aren't even showing it there, and as I said I was looking forward to watchign back to back semis today.

Ah well!!

Thought that A-Rod played well today, capitalised on the 2 opportunities given to him, deserved to win in straight sets.

A Mahut v Reddick final could be an interesting one!

Mahut does indeed win, beating Clement 6-3, 7-6..

Shame we couldn't see it on bbci though!!

Yes he did up his game today and deserved the win. I'm nto over awed with him being the likely winner mind. However, I'm glad Mahut came through, I see him being a real challenge for A-Rod, and I do hope he does it. I was very impressed with him against Nadal.

Yep! Well I had hoped Mahut woudl come through, although I thought it coudl go either way what with Clement's experince and the fact they are mates. I went 2-1 to Mahut. Crap day for my predictions - 1 point out of 6! roflmao

I'm still not bowled over by Roddick at all in this tourny. All the commentators were like ' oh his forehands looking awesome'. I was like are you having a laugh  roflmao Granted though, better depth than his previous matches and a bit more width streching Tursunov out-wide more exposing the movement limitations of the Russian. Great moving up the court, but can look exposed moving along the baseline, especially moving to his forehand.

Tursunov had some great moments, but his style of play is mirrored with huge patches of inconsistency. His serve looked good, but the follow up shots looked dreadful at times, his dropshots were Sharapova-esque today! :yikes: Still he fought well, and has a real chance to do damage at Wimby i feel. Potential quarter-finalist :ok:

Having a laugh  I'm not bowled over either dl. At times Roddick appears to play worse than he did 5 years ago. I think he's a nice guy, I have nothing personal against him, but when I watch him I am constantly feeling that I so want the opposition to win! Hi game style is really boring me and it's not cos of his serve - I love the serve and volley game and a lot fo the big servers - btu he seems to have such a scant gameplan. If he volleyed, fine but he's not exaclt y the finesse and class of Henman at th enet.

I agree with both SB and dl re: Roddick. He is another player where if plan 'A' doesn't work, then there is no plan 'B'.. So, if his serve and forehand aren't functioning then he's pretty much neutralised.

Having said that, he does now seem to scrap for every point.. seems to have become more of a battler through Connors' training. Mind you, if the battling aspect wasn't the first lesson on the first morning of the first day of Connors' training then I'd be very surprised!!

Me too

I am truly shocked to see Roddick's ranking, i really am. With what I've seen I'd put him top 20 but not top 5.
