Title: Bogdanovic vs Roddick
Description: wtf?!
Wise_Analyst - June 14, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)
Normally this is the last match I'd be watching, let alone doing live scoring on, but Bogdanovic is playing a blinder here! 4-2 up in the first set and dominating most of the rallies. If he had a bigger serve, he could be a decent top 50 player, based on this performance.
It's debateable whether he'll win even this set, let alone the match, but without meaning to sound like John Lloyd / Andrew Castle, who probably have him down as Wimbledon champion now, this guy is a fairly decent British player. Seems like Peter Lundgren's help is paying dividends.
Elsewhere, Safin came out and won 6 points on the trot to defeat poor Grosjean 3-6, 6-4, 6-4  and Henman's conqueror has just put out Hewitt's conqueror, Cilic defeating Tsonga 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Gonzo beat Ginepri in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, and somewhat impressively stayed on court to subsequently defeat Phillipoussis :yikes: according to the 3rd round results section of the Artois website.

Really good play by 'Boggo'. He isn't being outclassed at all which his ranking would indicate. Plenty of variety and he keeps up in terms of power as well. His speed could do with a bit of work though and his serve.
But yeh he's having a blinder!

some of his point contruction has been top class, and hes looking very positive for a change. Imagine if we have a Boggo vs Cilic quarter final, when Tim, Hewitt and Roddick were all in their 1/4 :yikes:

I'm nto surprised because I saw Boggo play the other day and thought that he looked much more relaxed and focused, and played more agressively. I was almost tempted to pick Boggo as an upset but I played it safe I'm afraid.
I hope Boggo can improve, he is indeed talented, he's underachieved so far but he ha spotential.

fantastic hold by Boggo

Boggo is definitely sounding a "chilling warning" to you know who :P

Unfortunately, I'm not able to watch this one, sounds like Boggo is playing very well though - lets hope he doesn't choke in the 2nd set though. Grass is Boggo's best surface so lets hope he capitalises here at Queens, and gets a decent draw at Wimbledon (no Federer or Nadal please!).

Bogo's mental strength is definitely superior this tournament to anything I've ever seen from him before. He fell down 15-30 three times on serve in the first set and held each time with some good serving and point construction.
I'm really quite impressed with this... obviously he's never going to win a Slam, but he really should be in a position to automatically qualify for them, and even make decent progress.
Federer certainly won't want to draw him first round at Wimbledon.

Wise, I knew you couldn't go a whole post without mentioning 'you-know-who'.
Anyway, did you know you won the French Open 'mini-predictions contest' - one which a few people took part in before the tournament started, where line-up for quarter-finals onwards had to be predicted.
Well done, as you also won the main predictions contest...

Last year he drew Rafa first round. He played quite a good match, I think he had 3 sest inc a tiebreak and the scoreline wa sno disgrace. However you just knew he wasn't gonna win, I think he resigned himself to that and just played for a laugh! He needs to develop killer instinct and confidence. I think he's a good al rounder, has touch too and is volleying Roddick into oblviion!

Wow Boggo is seeing the ball so well. :o Anyone thinking this might be a tie break? If so Boggo has a great chance fo winning this match.
chetanpv - June 14, 2007 02:27 PM (GMT)
Bogo down 15-30 while serving to stay in the set.
SuperBRAT - June 14, 2007 02:30 PM (GMT)
Boggo just fended off set point with what I think was an ace, which he challenged cos it was calle dout and it was in. 5 all now.
SuperBRAT - June 14, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
Boggo holds to love, Tie break!
SuperBRAT - June 14, 2007 02:38 PM (GMT)
4-2 Roddick  Ball checked on Boggo's forehand.

Never thought I'd see the day we were cheering on Boggo! He's playing well though isn;t he? :D
Dinky Jo - June 14, 2007 03:04 PM (GMT)
 Roddick breaks Boggo to go 4-3 up in the final set!
MrInvisible - June 14, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
3-5, Bogdanovic serving to stay in the match. Had a feeling this would happen in 3rd set. But lets hope Boggo takes this form into his next matches on the grass (I presume he's playing Nottingham again?).
MrInvisible - June 14, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
And Roddick wins 4-6 7-6, 6-4...shame Boggo couldn't quite pull off the win, but lets hope he can get a few more wins under his belt during grasscourt season and then gain direct entry for US Open.
SuperBRAT - June 14, 2007 03:14 PM (GMT)
Yes indeed :ok:
A creditable performance form Bogg, let's hope this is the start of something good for him at last. :)
Russiafan - June 14, 2007 03:23 PM (GMT)
I was really impressed by Alex in that match. I think this goes down as one of his two greatest achievements as he should belief in himself that he can compete at the highest level as although he's always been a great shot-maker, he's never really backed his abilities up with confidence. (His first great achievement was qualifying for the US Open in 2004, which showed that he was willing to put effort into tennis and do the hard work).
Andy Roddickis lucky to have such a great serve otherwise he would be out of Queens.
Tennis_Mad_Andy - June 14, 2007 03:27 PM (GMT)
Boggo did awesome! I was really impressed with him and I think he can move onwards and upwards now :) Top 100 now!
ark_28 - June 14, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
Really dissapointed and concerned with how Andy played in this match t be stuggling and on the verge of going out to with all due respect some one like Bogadanovic isnt satisfactory.
BUT the most important thing is despite playign poorly espcially in the first set where I thought Andys tactis were appauling and frankly only his serve kepy him alive, He got the W and is still in the draw to fight another day. Hopefully he will put today behind him and play better in the next match against the young Croat

Boggo did play the best he's ever played though Ark, and it was great play at times. His shotmaking and tactics were all on song today. I think Roddick's main issue is that when his game goes wrong he has no back up plan. Also players with touch and variety seem to be undoing his game lately, like Murray has.
Credit to Roddick for finding a way to win, albeit ugly. I do feel he shoudl be playing at a higher and more consistent level though given his raking and all. Especially on grass. :)
