Glandular fever, and I've heard he's in doubt for the Davis Cup tie against GB as well.

He's got terrible luck, this lad. He missed a good part of the early season last year due to a back injury (and couldn't play Davis Cup so that then-champions Croatia were sent out early on), but came back to reach the Hamburg semis and RG QFs, defended his first title at the Ordina and reached the Wimbledon QFs, then got injured on holiday of all things (jet-skiing?) and vanished until late season, where he reached the Beijing final on his first tourney back and actually was a contender for Shanghai for a spell (winning St Petersburg and losing to eventual champion Davydenko in the QFs at Bercy) until Robredo clinched the final spot.
Now this illness comes after only three events played this year, and his return keeps getting pushed back. A shame as he was in the midst of consolidating a Top 10 spot and now has fallen out of the Top 20 and will fall further if he has to miss Wimbledon, his best Slam.

I've been concerend re Ancic for a while. Terrible luck :( he's definitley someone in my mind who'd have won Wimby by now, Fed aside of course, if he'd stayed fit and had better rankings. On grass he is certainly up there in the top few for me.
Hope eh gets well soon, I want to see him at wImbers.

Real shame if Ancic is indeed having to miss Wimbledon. He's one of the very few bona fide serve-volleyer grasscourt players out there and also performs well on clay too.

with (presumeably) ancic and haas out of wimbledon, gasquet playing less than stellar these days...who's my outside favourite to pull for?? juan carlos ferrero

Ancic seemingly never gets a break :(
Glandular fever is a terrible buisness though, it can take months to even feel right again, never mind fit to play tennis. Shame because his serve is one of the best around on grass and his huge prescence at net will surely give him a Wimby final place at some stage.
I hope he's better soon :)

I know, glandular fever can last months. I panicked a while back cos we thought I had it, my glands were sore and I was knackered. Turned out to be a respiratory infection, and that was bad enough.
I hope he recovers soon, poor thing. :(
