Title: Hamilton wins his first GP!!!
Sam - June 10, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
:D :D :D
Great start-to-finish win for Lewis in an extraordinary Canadian Grand Prix, which has 5 safety cars in all, two disqualifications, Alonso pushing a self-destruct button on his championship (being passes by a super aguri! :o) and Kubica suffering a crash so frightening I watched the screen stunned for a moment, thinking he was dead for sure (As it turned out he has just a broken leg and was apparently talking to doctors :))
Hamilton is now 8pts clear at the top! :D :D :D
Button didn't even get off the grid, maybe he anticipated there were some big crashes coming today or something...

brilliantly mature drive by Hamilton, the pressure is on Alonso (he's never been truly No.1)
bloody ITV not showing the press conference was unbelievable!

Bloddy ITV full stop!
Couldn't believe James Allen when Kubica had his awful smash - At first he was stunned, like most will have been, but then he's going on about how the extended safety car period would be damaging hamilton and little else!
It was certainly more eventful than the RG finals :P

Well,it's good to see a Brit win something for once, but just can't get excited about Formula One ;)
Sam - June 11, 2007 08:44 AM (GMT)
In fact it turns out Kubica hasn't even broken his leg thankfully, just a sprained ankle and concussion - he might race next weekend! :) roflmao
Buttercup - June 11, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
Well done Lewis :D :D :D
I was cheering Sato on, when he over took Alonso
What happened to Button?? i missed the beginning of the race
yorkshire - June 11, 2007 10:24 AM (GMT)
I'm not a big fan of F1 but it's always good to see an Englishman doing well :D
The Gods must have been smiling on Kubica, I saw the crash on TV, to come out with only a sprained ankle from an accident like that is unbelievable. Just goes to show how well the cars are constructed to deal with things like that.
SuperBRAT - June 11, 2007 12:53 PM (GMT)
Can't stick motor racing, but great to see an Enlgishman win a big race. I bet Alonso was pissed off! roflmao

Well the "body zone" stayed intact as it is designed to, it definitely saved his life, 10 years ago he would almost certainly be dead.
When I saw it live it was one of those moments where I wished I hadn't - what made it worse was that his head was the same side as where the camera was looking, and I was kinda praying "let nothing hit that helmet".
Thankfully it didn't :D
Look at it and you will see how lucky he is!
Kubica megacrash

What actually caused Kubica's crash, was it just human error that caused it?

As brundle says in commentary, it is thought he clipped the back wheel of the toyota at high speed as they approached the hairpin, causing him to spear off the track so violently. I assume he was about to make a pass on the slower Toyota...

You have to wonder whether Ayrton Senna would still be with us if he crashed in a modern car rather than the one he did have.

Well there's certainly one thing - his death is what has motivated these huge safety advances! That man was a legend
Ayrton was killed by a flying piece of shrapnel that pierced his helmet, so I don't know if it would have saved him even now - he was just very unlucky I think :(
Sam - June 12, 2007 08:09 AM (GMT)
suspension not shrapnel actually now i've read it up again

Yeah that crash was awful. :( Then again I find it hard to be sympathetic. F1 is a higly dangerous sport, driving round liek a lunatic at ridiculously high speeds is gonna get soem people in trouble. If I did that and crashed, i'm sure I'd get called irresponsible, and people would be saying why should I get medical treatment cos it was my silly fault.

Well ok SB, I get your drift you aren't keen on F1 roflmao
Myself, I think it's a great sport, the guys who used to drive around in the deathtraps of the 50's and 60's are real heroes!
I don't find it hard to be sympathetic - it's a sport, one of the most popular globally, and every single driver on that racetrack is immensely talented and skilful.
Lex - June 12, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
and rich..
very very rich....
(they'd be able to afford to give you kitchen scissors as a gift SB :P )

Oh I appreciate the skill involved totally. It's just boring to watch - the excitement is sadly a near fatal crash. And it is very dangerous indeed and if the average person were to expose ourselves to that kind of danger and suffer we'd get called fools not heroes. That's my view anyway. :)
My mate just went drving at Silverstone. he is total nutter and I was concerend for his safety. He recently nearly paralysed himself lifting RSJs on his own

I don't know - I find it exciting, there is something a little special about the Grand Prixs if you get into it.
I do miss Schumacher immensely though - it needs a dick dastardly character again roflmao
