chokapova - June 10, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Another tier III and another great line up! :D

The Cheat, Jelena and Daniela all playing! :ok:

dl04 - June 10, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
Will you ever call her 'maria' roflmao

I can see the 05 finalist winning this ;)

Be good to see a Hantuchova run also :)

Well I do sometimes when I am feeling benevolent! roflmao

I think Jelena does have a great shot. :)

I'm just pleased she isn't playing the week before Wimbledon! :ok:

SerenaW19 - June 10, 2007 05:13 PM (GMT)
Im wondering if Maria can ascend to her former lofty heights and become Birmingham champion again :) Would be nice if the top seed won :)

 I just want her to get her form back in time for Wimbledon...I would give Jankovic a tip to win it though, although I can't see Janky doing as well at Wimbledon with that serve....

Yeah her second serve is almost on par with Elena D's in terms of potential collapse on the technique. She's such a great ball-striker though and will be able to orchestrate the points better on grass where the points are so much shorter. That backhand will just zoom through on the turf :)

Agreed! :D

I wonder whether Venus should have considered playing Birmingham? She played Istanbul after all and it would have given her some more match play on the green stuff! :)

petalp - June 10, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
Jelena was runner up to Sharpie the shrieking harpy in 2005..

Maybe a rematch is on the cards?

I think that Jelena has a good chance of winning this tournament.. :ok:

Russiafan - June 11, 2007 11:03 AM (GMT)
I went to this tournament in 2005 and 2006, last year it absolutely p*ssed it down so I only got to see 1 and half of the scheduled matches  Though I did get to see the future champion Zvonareva win the first 5 games against Kremer....such a shame that Vera can't defend her title this year :(

jack.hl.ng - June 11, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
come on GUYS! lets not forget jack's favourite LI!!!! :P

its good to have 4 strong top seeds :) if they all reach the SF, will be good SF match ups ! :)
Li did very well at wimbledon last year, and poorly at the 2 grass tournaments before the GS, *fingers crossed* wasnt a fluke run, i think her game is good for grass :)

She and Janko won the doubles last year, so they should have a good feel for the surface and the place :)

Janko/Li to win ! not the cheat *cough*

liam_valid - June 11, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
if the seeds make it it will be Jamkovic vs Li and Masha vs Hantuchova in the semis, which aint bad considering Tu and Jackson were in last years semis

I think you're right! :(

She really played so well that semi final and it's a shame she got injured.
But she is young so she has plenty of time still to get better!

Sam - June 12, 2007 08:12 AM (GMT)
Apparently Jankovic has the hots for Jamie Murray... or so the Beeb said yesterday roflmao

liam_valid - June 12, 2007 10:53 AM (GMT)
Cavaday has won the first set off Russias Bardina 6-2

Wow, what a performance, winning 6-2 6-1 against an opponent ranked 182 places above her, breaking her 4 times whilst not facing a break point herself. Well done Naomi

I have been following Naomi's progress since she won her first 10K in India back in 2005 and have to say that I have been impressed by her attitude, results and scheduling.

She makes no excuses and just goes out there to win and quite often does. She thoroughly deserves such a comprehensive win over a top 100 player and I wish her the best of luck against Bartoli in the next round. :D

GS2 - June 12, 2007 11:36 AM (GMT)
Baltacha lost the first set 6-4 to Sequera but has hit back to take the second 6-1.

Congrats to Cavaday - nice to see the ladies following in the guys footsteps after yesterday's success at Queens.

liam_valid - June 12, 2007 12:30 PM (GMT)
woohoo a double bagel :yahoo: Kerber beats Poutchkova 6-0 6-0

Russiafan - June 12, 2007 01:07 PM (GMT)
Sadly Bally fell 7-5 in the third, but it's important to note that she has only being playing competitively again since March, so to push Sequera to 3 sets is a really positive for her future :)

jack.hl.ng - June 12, 2007 06:04 PM (GMT)
GBR's Keothavong, (top british player i think?) out in 3 sets, 26 62 64

Randwanska, Bremond out, and Jamea Jackson out too..

Li had to fight a *bit* 46 62 60
totally pushed her game up when closing the match :D with 100% winning first serves :D
SMACK though winners! :D

no seed waiting for her in the 3rd round as Krajicek lost yesterday! ! ! come on Li! :D

GS2 - June 13, 2007 12:03 PM (GMT)
Jankovic is the first winner of the day 6-4, 6-1 over Pironkova

Santangelo beats Mirza 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

Sharapova playing Osterloh and is leading 5-3. Struggled on serve early on but seeming more comfortable now.

GS2 - June 13, 2007 12:21 PM (GMT)
Sharapova fends off break points to take the set 6-4.

Has an early break in the second.

jack.hl.ng - June 13, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
sharapova takes the next set 60 :)
easy win for her :) 64 60

i do think the seeds will last, and all top 4, getting to the Semis... quite a few lower seed been dropping so far...
hopefully some nicey matches to watch in the semi's :D

BUSY BUSY day!
all 3rd round matches tomorrow, and ALL QF matches tomorrow!

tomorrow is sunny with spells of rain, and maybe a thunder storm!?!? or THUNDERY showers as predicted by BBC! ....

hoping not a repeat of the tournament like 9 years ago, when Steffi Graff had to play SF on the monday! :o
Sharapova and Li are expected at Eastbourne, and Jankovic and Hantuchova are expected at 's-Hertogenbosch!

though good weather is predicted for sat and sunday :)

xxx GOOD LUCK LI and JANKOVIC!

liam_valid - June 15, 2007 12:55 PM (GMT)

Jankovic won it 36 63 75

Li won 64 64

Daniela and Maria are yet to play... currently play suspended by rain... doubt they will finish all the 3rd round matches today, let alone the QF's that are scheduled...

maybe 2 matches 2morro fir the players, providing the weather holds...

6 3rd round completed... 2 left and then 4 QF's to be played today.. :( and lets not start on the doubles... first round is still waiting to be played from like 3 days ago!

I live half an hour away from Birmingham, and let me tell you, it was absolutely sizzling weather until wednesday, and then typically the day I have my last exam, it starts pouring down non stop :(

Apparently it's going to be like it for most of the weekend too :( Im not sure if they'll even finish the tournie at this rate

this tickled me:

QUOTE
Paszek, who has improved her world ranking from No.181 to No.55 this season, is looking forward to the contest. “She’s one of my idols and has been since I was small,” said the teenager after her second round victory over tournament No.13 seed Meilen Tu. “I admire her game, her personality and how hard she works on the court. I respect her a lot.”

Friends tried to get her autograph in New York.
She didn't take too kindly to that...
