  • Bench members (Substitutes): Schiavone, Camerin, Oprandi
RUSSIA
  • Field members (Starters): Kuznetsova, Vesnina, Chakvetadze, Safina

seems to me like we are getting too many matches early on that should really be finals. Maybe its time the seedings and draw organisers underwent some change

Oh Craybas, Im not sure why

It is because she lost the most important single match in fourth rubber when USA fall behind Russia 1-2 at two years ago of semi final. But she didn't leave the team to response her fault, also she played again.

So, USA lost in semi final again.

If Craybas can response her fault, her team maybe advance to the final.

I'm a bit confused by that as well?

As far as I know there is no suspension in Fed Cup - why would the organisers want to suspend players when they have a hard enough time getting them to play in the first place?

Or is it supposed to be the national organisers themselves but again why would they do that?

Mauresmo hasn't played the last few ties but that was because of injury not suspension.

Why would Craybas be suspended for losing matches? Dropped from the team maybe but not suspended.

Also how was Petrova not authorised to play against Spain!!??

It all seems a little strange really. As far as I can tell there is nothing on the Fed Cup website about it.

OK, now I explain why they were suspended:
  • Mauresmo lost the last one deciding doubles match with Pierce when Pierce defeated Myskina in fourth rubber difficultly at two years ago of final, but she didn't leave the team to response her fault (Pierce had already perform it);
  • The explaination for why Craybas was suspended I had already explain it (see this);
  • Petrova gave her important chance to newbie Kirilenko to play the fourth rubber when they against Belgium at last year (I know she want to have a rest, but the problem is she had a rest at least one week when she won in Family Circle Cup 2006)

Otherwise, why I post this message? It is I want you know some players will have a punishment (e.g. suspension) when they lost the crutial or last one deciding match. For example, the team leader of France - Guy Forget was resigned in three years ago because his team can't defend their championships at the final of FED Cup 2004 (France VS Russia). Meantime Bartoli & Loit lost to Myskina & Zvonareva in last one deciding doubles match when France tired with Russia 2-2 (Dechy & Golovin won their single match difficultly, so Bartoli & Loit should save their chance).

Also, this is the one of rule for Accountability System (it means are someone must resign their positions to response their serious fault if they make the most serious mistakes).

Do you understand now?

Because it's not true!!

There is no suspension in Fed Cup for losing an important match!!

Guy Forget resigned because he wanted to - not because he had to!

Mauresmo & Petrova have both played in Fed Cup since these big matches they lost (or in Petrova's case couldn't play because she was exhausted) - if there was suspension why wouldn't it be automatic!!!?

Craybas didn't play in the first round this year but who would pick her when they had Venus & Serena on call!

Your link has nothing to do with the Fed Cup - just with the way you seem to think the world works!

Bravissimo Francesca Schiavone!!! Amazing achievement to beat Amelie, then Tati (from 2-5 down in the third set) and then seal the doubles!!

And Bravo to the Russian girls too, beating USA, in spite of an inspired Venus Williams..

So.. Italy v Russia in the final..

Been impressed with the Italian team. No huge superstars there, but an excellent team effort from them once again :)

SerenaW19 - July 17, 2007 01:00 AM (GMT)
I was gutted the USA lost :( But Russia had the greater depth in their team and Petrova and Vesina were the more melded pair, so the most deserving team won :)

And Schiavone

Venus tried so hard, as did the rest of the team :(

Raymond and Venus did their best, but Petrova and Vesnina just the better team on the day. Still it was an excellent performance from the USA, and when Serena's in the team next year, we can hope for great things :D

How can Zina Garrison decide who is playing in the fed cup next year at this point in time? Would you really leave out Venus if she was available and fit? No. Would you leave out Raymond, one of the best doubles players in the world over the last ten years, if she was playing well and fit? No.

Do you remember even if any players are the best, but maybe dismiss if they didn't follow the instruction for their team leader? I have already said that this is the one of disciplinary!!

Also, everyone have a chance to play (because this is the one of equal opportunity)!!

GS2 - July 23, 2007 11:28 AM (GMT)
PierceChang I really don't think you understand how the Fed Cup works! Players aren't automatically dismissed or suspended for not winning a match and it's not all about giving everyone a fair chance.

After all you initially claimed that Petrova & Mauresmo would be suspended for the semi finals but they weren't now were they? You are also wrong here. After all why should Venus Williams be disciplined when she won both her singles matches and only lost a tight doubles match!?

What is the instruction here? Also if everyone have equal chance to play why then Veuns and Nadia played three matches each with one member from each team didn't play at all?
