I'm thinking of playing a bit more tennis (!) and am interested to know what people think of my grip -
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/1832/p1000617bv4.jpgI've been told by someone who plays tennis a lot more than me that it's a continental style grip and isn't a good grip for playing tennis with. But it's just the natural way I pick up a racquet, it's not like I go out to have an awkward grip on purpose!!
Any information gratefully received from those of you who know far more than me!!
Hi yorkshire it's an eastern grip you have there. The best way to find your grips is the index knuckle of your finger is on bevel 3.
Your grip is fine,I played with the eastern forehand grip for a couple of years before moving it round. Now I play with my base knuckle just on the edge of bevel 3 and 4.Only a slight turn from yours.
As long as your swing path is high to low you will still get topspin. However you can experiment in practice by moving that hand round the grip clockwise to the next bevel and you will arrive at the semi-western grip, which will give you the grip that the majority of players would use at higher levels of play.
I though would stick with the eastern if you haven't played much and concentrate on getting the racquet through high to low.You can still achieve various degrees of spin on your forehand by the flatness or steepness of your swing.
You can always change later after bedding in a reliable stroke.
Here is a helpful grip guide for you.
