Title: Junior Round Up
Description: Inspired by Manzikert's doubles' piece

Russiafan - June 8, 2007 03:04 PM (GMT)
In the girls juniors the final will be between the number 2 seed, Alize Cornet of France who did so well against Venus Williams in the first round of the senior womens event. Cornet only dropped 9 games to reach the semi-finals where she won a three set battle over the number 6 seed Ksenia Milevskaya of Belarus. Her opponent in the final will be Mariana Duque Marino of Columbia who is ranked outside of the top 100 juniors but has stormed her way through the draw beating number 10 seed Ksenia Pervak, Micaela Larcher de Brito and the top seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the SF in a tight three set match.

The boys final will be between Greg Jones of Australia, seeded 5, who took out the top seed Matteo Trevisan from Italy in an epic SF match (10-8 in the final set). He will face Vladimir Ignatic from Belarus in the final who is seeded 12 at Roland Garros.

In terms of the British performance, the four boys (Dyce, Cox, Rice and Evans) all lost in their first round matches. However it was good to see so many entered, though obviously it would have been good for one of them to win a round or two. Daniel Cox managed to win a round in the boys doubles, but was soundly beaten in the second round. British girls number 1, Naomi Cavaday, opted out of competing this year and instead played in the Surbiton Trophy where she reached the second round. She has a wild card into the Tier III WTA event in Birmingham that begins next week. Jade Curtis also chose not to enter this year.

Thanks for the tip of the hat in the title. B)

I saw that Cornet is doing well - I'm chuffed for her not just because she's a home favourite, though that is nice also, but I thought she showed some promise in her match against Venus and I liked her style.

I predicted Cornet to win, so Im hoping that with the number one seed knocked out now, she can definitely do it :ok:

Vladimir Ignatic (12) bt Greg Jones (5) 6-3 6-4

Cornet (2) vs Duque-Marino 4-6, 5-1 at the moment

Ignatic took it in 3 and 4 over the fifth seed. Nice result for the Belarusian. It seems the Eastern European men are on the way to catching up with their sisters.

Cornet produces for her home crowd with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 win. That should do wonders for her confidence as she gradually continues to tackle the main draws. Even if it's not quite sporting, Liam! :P
