Women's tournament is heading for a belter now - the last 8 is made up of seeds 1-4 and 6-9, all the pre-tournament contenders are left in the draw. Conspicuous by her absence is the French crowd's darling and last year's double-GS breakthrough winner, Ameli Mauresmo.
She has had a tough season so far, and injury has played its part, but a few questions nag away:
(1) is the French Open always going to evade this more natural fast-court player, whose mental frailties seem to be exaggerated by the pressure of a home crowd
(2) Has she had her great year in the sun, finally banished the 'best player not to win a GS tag', and set to be contented with coasting towards retirement with two GS wins under her belt and picking up a fair bit of cash on the way
(3) Will she be back..........
I had thought she might really kick on this year, perhaps judgment is premature before seeing how she does at Wimby or even how she kicks off her injury troubles. Problem is, I think that one or other of an on-form Serena or Henin is always apt to do for her from now on.
I never saw her an winning more than two slams to be honest  I thought she did well to win the two last year, I was impressed she took her chances, so good for her :ok:
She will have a good seeding at Wimbledon, so I would expect to see her in the quarters at least, and after that we'll have to see. Mauresmo has the Sampras/Venus syndrome, has a disappointment at RG then shines at Wimbledon :D
She's rebounded from injury before to comeback and have great success, I wouldn't count her out......

With Venus it's looking a long shot for that syndrome to repeat this year ;)
Amelie was just not in sufficiently good shape for this tournament, which is a real shame as when healthy she is such a fine athlete, one of the best in the women's game. In her match against Safarova, she led 3-0 in both sets, only to lose them. i'd guess this is due to fitness issues in some shape or form :(
She reached the AO final very early on in her career and imo her slam finals last year were long overdue.
I think that she could still win slams. It's just that maybe RG is the one that she would struggle most to win, and should certainly be in the mix at SW19. She played so well to win it last year, and am hoping that she does herself justice once again this year.
