A shocking knee injury in October last year forced the now 32-year-old to undergo surgery and she is yet to make her return to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.
Nonetheless, Pierce made an appearance at the French Open on Wednesday, and for good reason; an avenue on the Roland Garros site has been named in her honor - Allée Mary Pierce. Joining her for the dedication ceremony was French Tennis Federation Christian Bimes and Sony Ericsson WTA Tour CEO Larry Scott (pictured).
Since her Roland Garros debut in 1990 Pierce has made 15 French Open appearances, and it's hoped her runner-up finish in 2005 won't be her last.
