That hardly sounds like choking; rather lik a competitive match. Ferrero led by a break in the third, but in the end lost it 6-2 :yikes: It looks like Ferrero has started to run out of steam a little bit tbh.
Did anyone else sign up for the Eurosport feed? I did, but the center court feed doesn't seem to be working! In all fairness, the Youzhny-Ferrero match is probably more exciting than Fed-Starace, but Starace is a quality player on clay, and I would have liked to see the match.
From the scoreboard, I see Roger won the first 6-2; on serve 2-1 in the second (with Roger facing some break points in the last game). It looks like his first-serve % is down a bit again, which is not a good sign.
mightyjeditribble - June 1, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
Ferrero's still fighting. 1-1 in the fourth.
It seems Potito is too. 2-2 in the second.
mightyjeditribble - June 1, 2007 12:29 PM (GMT)
Misha now 4-1 up with a break; it looks like he's going to go through here against Ferrero. However, it's best not to be hasty ...
chetanpv - June 1, 2007 12:31 PM (GMT)
Series of BPS saved by Potito. Federer's also gone back to his UEs and shanks we witnessed in MC & Rome.
mightyjeditribble - June 1, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
Roger took the second set 6-3 and is now 3-0 up in the third, with two breaks. :yahoo:
Misha won the fourth set, and the match, against Ferrero. :yahoo:

Go Monfils!! :yahoo:
Anybody watching this? Very intense, you gotta love the French crowd when they get behind a compatriot!!
Nalby & Monfils a set a piece
Wise_Analyst - June 1, 2007 04:15 PM (GMT)
Monfils is tiring and Nalby's looking good... I sense a pretty routine fourth set. Nice to see Fat Dave back to some semblance of form though.
Also good to see Canas beat that albino twat Vliegen... someone must have shown him the Belgian's pre-match comments. Canas takes it 6-2, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Ljubicic and Volandri in a thriller... it's gone to the fifth set and Volandri's a break up. Forza!

You old charmer you :D
Wise_Analyst - June 1, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
I spoke to soon :yikes: The umpire decides to even up an appalling error he made against Monfils in the third set and allows the Frenchman to break back by over-ruling a correct call. Strangely, the set has since been dominated by serve and it's 4-4.
Volandri about to serve for the set against Ljubicic. Forza Italia!
SuperBRAT - June 1, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
Oh bugger, another tie break! :o
SuperBRAT - June 1, 2007 04:52 PM (GMT)
Nalby's playing liek a plonker!
SuperBRAT - June 1, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
Although Nalby just did a blinding return, looking good now. And a great volley :o
SuperBRAT - June 1, 2007 04:58 PM (GMT)
OH well, my old mate ;) Nalby won 3-1, at least i get 3 points for a prediction. roflmao Have to hand it to Nalby, a great recovery in that last set tie break. Monfils shoudl have taken that to 5.
Wise_Analyst - June 1, 2007 05:00 PM (GMT)
Great match! Monfils won a couple of exhausting points at the start of the tie-break which enabled him to take a 4-1 lead, but they took it out of him at the same time. He made a couple of sloppy errors and then Nalby played some outstanding shots - the volley at 5-4 was incredible. He's gonna be tough to beat, that's for sure.
And Volandri beat Ljubicic in 5! :yahoo:
SuperBRAT - June 1, 2007 05:11 PM (GMT)
Volandri won? Don't know much about him, but I expected Ivan to get through that.
Tenez - June 1, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
A real genius this Nalby. The true number 3 without the donut diet....and I still believe his game woudl match up very well against Nadal. one day...maybe!

I predicted Ljubicic to lose to Clement, and then Wawrinka... when he won them both quote easily I decided to predict a win over Volandri. Bloody Ljubo, even when he loses he p*sses me off
Robredo looks in good form though - think he'll take care of Volandri no problem. Federer will certainly be hoping so too, after his mauling in Rome at the hands of the Italian.

That volley was indeed great and proof for the n+1 time the disgrace of Fat Dave: This guy had enough Tennis to trouble all other players (the top two as well easily)..Unfortunately, our friend is lazy...Ahhh..I should say this was the main reason to be against Fat Dave at the beginning of this match..But then after following a bit..well it is always like that I like his tennis the way in which he is always at the right place at the right moment, his ability to work with the BH as well with the FH...ahh this man in a no lazy head he would have conquer at lest 8 slams...
Anyway...Fat Dave is and Fat Dave remains...I really hope to see him against Canas and not Davy..Still, Davy is a real good player and it will be difficult for Fat..And Canas Monaco..This will be a great match as well
This side of the draw is very interesting the other side is empty in comparison...

Congratulations to Federer for thrashing Starace earlier today  .
I've just watched the Nalbandian-Monfils match and I enjoyed it immensely. I love the athleticism and enthusiam of Monfils. Nalbandian's backhand is one of the top three on the tour in my opinion. It was again superb today. His volleying and touch at the net is highly underrated. Monfils's serving was terrific and his forehand looked menacing as well. The fact that Nalbandian can play next to no matches ahead of the French Open and still reach the 2nd week further highlights how talented he is. A fully focused Nalbandian is a real asset to the tour.
Also congratulations to Volandri for beating Ljubicic. I believe that this defeat will knock Ljubo out of the top 10. I can't say that I'm overly disappointed with that news :D

Fully agree..But I still expect Lubo to be back (a last time IMO) in the top 10 before the end of the season..
Anyway, I guess his peak is over (it was definitely last season)..He was able to reach finals at the MS..His BH is far from being so poor and in a fast surface he has definitely some numbers.. There was always players like that in the top 10 whatever the time period you want to consider, i.e. players with some basic good shots, some evident limits but still able to do correctly and honestly their job.

On a more serious note, I am so impressed with Federer this tournament, he is in awesome form, and he wants it so much, more than last year imo.

I know, I preicted him to lose to Wawrinka, in fact I often pick him to lose early cos he often does! Never seem to tine it right though :)
mightyjeditribble - June 1, 2007 05:45 PM (GMT)
Seems like the Donut-Loving Argentine has picked up his previously abysmal form a little bit ... or was it a case of Monfils returning to his less-than-stellar form of the rest of the year?
Volandri and Canas through as well ... contrary to Wise, I imagine Fed wouldn't mind seein Volandri in the quarters. First Volandri, then Canas ... wouldn't that be a good preparation for taking on Nadal :)
I still think Robredo has a good chance to make it through; he hasn't really been pushed so far. On the other hand, Volandri has won their last three matches fairly comfortably, so an upset is not out of the question ...
I hope Canas can take care of Monaco, and then Canas-Nalbandian or Canas-Davydenko should both be good matches. Both Nalby and Canas could give Roger a good workout in the semis.
chetanpv - June 1, 2007 05:45 PM (GMT)
Was looking at the draw and imagine if Federer has to play Volandri, Canas and Nadal to win the tournament. All the people who beat him recently.

Meh....GO NADAL
chetanpv - June 1, 2007 05:53 PM (GMT)
I really want Nadal to equal two of Borg's records:
Win RG three times in a row.
Win RG and wimbledon in the same year (and stop Fed from 5 straight wimby's).
That would really put him to GOAT status but obviously nowhere near "You know who" ;) .

One of Nalby greatest talent is his return. He can turn a what would have been an ace into a winning return.
