Title: Quote of day
SerenaW19 - May 29, 2007 11:04 AM (GMT)
The BBC don't seem to be doing this, but if you see any funny/interesting quotes, post them here!
As usual Serena has come up with a few corkers
And I knew that if I did go down, then there's a 99.9 percent chance that she would not win the next round. So that encouraged me to even fight harder.Serena Williams
(about whether she was crying after the losing the first set):
No, no. I just think I make these faces that I have to stop making, because I hate when I watch film and I hate when I see those faces. I'm the baby. I was the youngest. I was always treated the best. I'm a whiner, a complainer. It doesn't help. Serena Williams
Q. And also sometimes you're known for your flamboyance. Maybe on a Saturday, you'd be out. How did you feel about playing at 11:00 o'clock on Sunday morning?
SERENA WILLIAMS: First of all, I never go out on Saturday night, especially on a Grand Slam. I'm like a hermit. I'm psycho. I'll stay in my room all day and all night. It's interesting playing on Sunday, and I actually was upset because I was out there. I was thinking there's no way I'm gonna go home on Sunday, you know. It's not even Monday. I can't lose on Sunday. I was just like, no way, so, but it also kept me really motivated.
Dinky Jo - May 29, 2007 12:17 PM (GMT)
I shall obviously post a Marat quote.....
Q. Your form on clay and the build‑up to the French Open has been sort of up and down. How easy is it for you to turn it on when it comes to a Grand Slam?
MARAT SAFIN: Well, it wasn't even ups and downs, it was just downhill.
SerenaW19 - May 29, 2007 12:25 PM (GMT)
Marats another one who always comes up with some corkers

ANASTASIA MYSKINA: It was great.
Q. What kind of things did you do specifically?
ANASTASIA MYSKINA: I was working on TV. I had a soccer show on TV. I have no idea about soccer, but now I'm kind of into that. Well, I was commentating tennis. I just was practicing, going to ‑‑ I had a great life. I don't know why I'm here (laughing).

Sorry, SW; I'm going to muck up your quotes thread again.
Sweating cobs is a new one on me, so I looked up "cob" in the New Oxford Dictionary of English. The only meaning I knew for it was as in corn on the cob / a cob of corn.
But it also means: a loaf of bread (OK, I gathered that from what SB was saying); hazelnut (large variety); powerfully built, short-legged horse; male sawn: a roundish lump of coal.
So which of THEM is one sweating if one sweats cobs?
Sorry again, SW
