Title: Day 3 - Tuesday
SerenaW19 - May 29, 2007 10:49 AM (GMT)
So Vaidisova is through 64 63, was a good match considering her lay off, and that she was in doubt for the tournament for a while. A few ups and downs, but generally her two big weapons, serve and forehand are looking good. Dementieva also through, 3 and 2.
Jankovic is through 2 and 2. Although don't be fooled by that easy scoreline she got broken 3 times and her opponent made 46 UEs in just over an hour. She clearly still has to play herself into form.
Currently, Razzano is up a set, Groenefeld is at one set all, Petrova is a set down :o and King narrowly lost the first set :(
Looking forward to see what Rezai does later in the day also.

Results so far.
Good win for Santangleo - I thought Radwanska would do well here.
Nice to see Kirilenko find some form again - Camerin has had a good clay season and I was expecting that to be tougher.
Would like to see Llagostera Vives put together a good run here - she was doing well in 2005 then got injured. I thought Smashnova had retired though?

as for rezai, bartoli is serving for the 1st set at 5-2...
T01 - May 29, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
Pity about Bartoli and Rezai. Both of them have done well recenlty and could have progressed a bit more if it wasn't for this match..

More results - mainly the minor matches.
Rezai has got to be disappointed at falling so easily to Bartoli after beating Venus & Maria last week.
Bammer through as expected - hopefully she can show some of her early season form here.
Easy win for Schiavone who's struggled of late.
Great win for the new young Swiss hope Bacsinszky especially against such a tough opponent.

I thought so too!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6444861.stmTurns out she plans to retire after Wimbledon. Strange choice for last tournament as she has never had any success there - has she ever even won a round there? Maybe she hopes to rectify that before retiring?

Petrova is injured to be fair though, and it's not like it's from overplaying either, she's played just over 20ish matches this year. Shame she couldnt't get it right for the clay season :( And now it looks like she'll have to miss Wimbledon too!

I'm glad someone else appreciates that she is injured and thats why she lost - too many people have been quick to condemn her as a choker and failure because of this loss

It was the same last year, people said she couldn't handle the pressure of being a favourite, but she was blatantly injured, just like she was blatantly injured for most of this clay season.
Shame really as she was having a great season up to Miami and nearly defending Amelia Island.
liam_valid - May 29, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
2 seasons on trot :( maybe she will learn from this and take a good look at her schedule next year
dl04 - May 29, 2007 06:11 PM (GMT)
Petrova out :o Clearly injury hampering her, as it has for most of the year. Needs to regain her early 2006 conditioning, she has looked so below par in that aspect this year hence the injury problems. Great win for Peschke though, who at 31 can relish in a top 15 win again :)
Vaidisova through pretty easily. A slew of errors from the Czech early on, most likely shaking off the rust of her nagging wrist injury. Played well enough when needed. Moving quite well and unleashing on the serve and forehand, one of the biggest combinations in the game at the moment.
Bartoli looked superb against Rezai i must say. Such pin-point accuracy from the back of the court, excellent depth and was able to move Rezai around the court. Rezai produced some backhand bombs, but not consistent enough at all to break down Bartoli's back-court artillery.

I agree. She cant; help her injuries. I still never see her going beyond semis of a slam mind, however with today's field who knows? Woudl eb good to see he rmake her mark somewhere.
