Title: French Open freeview people?

yorkshire - May 27, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
Hi all, couple of questions. Is there anyone else who has been watching the French Open coverage today on freeview? Instead of pressing the red button, I find it easier to watch BBC Interactive by going to either channel 301 or 302 as both are BBC Interactive channels. Does anyone know if both interactive channels will have tennis on? Only 301 did today as 302 had some rugby on but that shouldn't be the case tomorrow. They may have different courts on different channels but they said today they would be on Chatrier court all day tomorrow. I remember when the snooker was on earlier this year they had different tables on different channels, will be interesting to see :)

Another quick one, what are those gaps in the back board for where people watch from? Are they ballkid storage areas? roflmao

i was watching the tennis on 301, there was a long period during the afternoon when there was nothing on due to the rain, but then when play resumed they started showing it again.
I find if i press the red button on BBC1 nothing happens, it does work if i press it on the NEWS 24 channel, but it's quicker just to go to 301.

Last year they only had the one channel, I think it's the same this year....

It's not perfect but considering we only had the final not so long ago, we should not complain I guess.

I watched tennis on interactive today, and came to pretty much the same conclusions as you. Yes, going to 301 seems to be much simpler. If you want, you should then be able to press the red button, which would then allow you to switch different interactive channels by pressing the blue button. (If that makes any sense )

However, it sounded to me as though they will have only one channel of tennis each day. Presumably this is because they only have one team of commentators, even though it would seem to be that it wouldn't be so bad to offer at least one other court; I'm sure we won't miss the commentary so much ...

You can always consider signing up to the eurosport live feed (which they seem to have for every one of the slams :yahoo: ). It costs under five pounds for the whole tournament from what I've seen, and from past experience it's worth it. I haven't bought it for the French yet, as it didn't really seem worth it today, and I need to get some work done anyway.

Did anyone notice though that after they had finished showing Serena's match they played a bit of Henin's which was on a different court? I guess they have only one team of commentators but they can be moved from one court to another.

I'm glad I got freeview though, sport was the main reason I did :)

SerenaW19 - May 27, 2007 08:05 PM (GMT)
Yeah I think it might be to do with having only one team of commentators, but as I understand it they "hire" the T.V feed from French T.V so it might be that they've only hired one feed, so can only show one court at a time.....

I agree the freeview service is good :ok: If only they could have the USO too

Why cant they have the US? Is it cos sky have the rights or something?

SerenaW19 - May 27, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
Yeah, greedy sky buying all the rights

I always just go straight to 301 or whatever channel I need. That red button just causes delay and doesnt; always work.

Not that impressed by the coverage this year. Still only the one channel and coverage ending when there are still courts with play in the evenings. I'm having to watch a dire encounter bewteen Seppi and Moya now. Why? Must be somethign better on.

These streams are pretty good SB, I'm watching Venus v Harkleroad at the mo. I've let the office know and it seems everyone is draining the bandwidth! lol

But I am being a good employee and working at the same time :D

I tried to get that livestream but it says it's restricted to the USA.

Having only been able to watch the French Open since this year, due to not having a digibox, I'm quite pleased. Although they only seem to have one team of commentators working, so when they change to a match on a different court, there's a delay before the commentary resumes.

I've noticed though that the picture quality isn't quite as good on freeview as on the normal TV. Maybe it's just my TV/aerial though.

I prefer the Eurosport commentary, but they have a commercial break at EVERY change of ends and its winding me up
