Title: French Open: Mini-predictions contest
Description: Predict line-up for q final onwards!
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 12:24 PM (GMT)
Hi folks, this is the 'mini-predictions' contest: a less frenetic, less grandiose version of the main contest. Basically, you have to guess the line-ups for both the mens' and womens' singles for quarter-finals onwards, and also predicted a seeded player to lose in 1st round, and the unseeded player who goes furthest.
Draws should be available, pinned on this website, but they'll also be available here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6691657.stmhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6691155.stmPoints will be awarded as follows: Correct quarter-finalist: 5 points, correct semi-finalist 10 points, correct finalist 20 points, correct winner 30 points, correct 1st round seeded upset 5 points, correct unseeded star player 5 points.
Maximum number of points is 160 each for mens' and womens' singles (320 total).
Best of luck to you all!

GOAT - May 25, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
After painstaking factual research and a thorough critical thinking exercise in logic i came to this result:
Road to the final
Roger Federer » Michael Russell » Julien Benneteau » Juan Carlos Ferrero » Tommy Robredo »Nikolay Davydenko
Novak Djokovic » Qualifier » Sam Querrey » Agustin Calleri »David Ferrer » Paul-Henri Mathieu » Tomas Berdych
What a djoko of a draw he had
Final
Federer - Djokovic
7-5 6-4 6-1 Winner Federer
Instead of Djoko i have a dark horse candidate after painstaking factual research and a thorough critical thinking exercise with no logic and most for fun:
Ivo Karlovic » James Blake »Jonas Bjorkman » Philipp Kohlschreiber » Tomas Berdych » Lleyton Hewitt » Novak Djokovic
Final
Federer - Karlovic
6-7 6-7 7-6 7-6 22-20 winner federer
Nadal loses to Hewitt
You laugh at it here first roflmao

Oops, I've not added the scores up for this yet! Will try and do something later today, possibly to put up the final scores tomorrow morning...
I'm pretty confident I've not won though (I did disastrously in the womens' singles!).

So, congratulations to Wise Analyst, who lives up to his name, and does the double (main predictions contest and the mini-predictions). Commiserations to Tenez, who trailed in last place of overall mini-predictions...
MrInvisible - June 14, 2007 09:47 AM (GMT)
So, Wise won the overall contest thanks to successfully predicting an Ivanovic and Henin final, and sticking by his man Nadal in the mens' singles. Special mention to Awesome Agassi who nailed the mens' quarter-finals - great call on Andreev getting through to the quarters.
Generally, the mens' scores were OK (would have been better if more had gone for Nadal instead of Federer) but the womens' scores were rather low - too much faith shown in Serena Williams and Mauresmo, and the unseeded star was a tricky one - there were *no unseeded players in 4th round* and the best performing unseeded player was Knapp (!), an Italian who pushed Schynder very close in 3rd round.

Hi Tenez,
well, I was indeed quite sad at the end of the final  ..But given that I was in holidays and moreover in Tuscany :P ..Well, it took me 5 min to pass over ;) ..Rafa was the best player during the final because: a. FED did not take the opportunities he had during the first set and b b. Rafa was able to move the match on a physical battle and in this sort of battle well all know who will win right? In particular on clay..So..But still, if you think that Rafa is already, IMO, one of the major "physical" player ever in Tennis history then FED only possibility to win was to end up as quickly as possible the battle..He was not able to implement this plan (due to his lack of ..I do not know what" during the first set...) so he lost..
On that side, the only sad aspect is, IMO, that there is no a Borg II player on the tour at the moment...I mean see this sort of player against Rafa at RG would be just fantastic..(both of them playing during 5 hours at the minimum roflmao )...
Anyway..I really hope FED will be able to do his job at Wimbledon: This is the main objective of the season..By default.. :ok:
