MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 09:29 AM (GMT)
Tenez, you beat me to it. Yes, I am excited about it - v interested to plot Federer and Nadal's path, but also to see how many matches Henman could win (please don't draw Federer in 1st round!), and how my darkhorse pick Juan Monaco will do.
Safin and Nalbandian will throw up some interesting matches too no doubt.
Tenez - May 25, 2007 09:36 AM (GMT)
Hi MRI - Does it show anything? I first got the picture of the draw with henin in the background but then nothing happened and when I refreshed it went back to the FFT page.
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 09:43 AM (GMT)
Link not working for me either - all I see is a photo of the Roland Garros officials pointing at the draw! Ca m'ennerve!

Nothing...What happens...I amen now we are at 11.45...No way to see something...Cr@p :yikes:
Tenez - May 25, 2007 09:51 AM (GMT)
It works now. I closd all IE windows and started again.
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 09:56 AM (GMT)
Now its started - lets see who gets tricky unseeded players Andreev, Almagro and Monaco. And please, a nice draw for Henman!
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 09:56 AM (GMT)
Unseeded players being placed now.
Tenez - May 25, 2007 09:57 AM (GMT)
I bet Gasquet and djoko are with Federer as usual!
Tenez - May 25, 2007 09:58 AM (GMT)
Oh oh - delpotro v Nadal!
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 09:58 AM (GMT)
Karlovic v Luczak in a big-serving 1st round encounter...Henman plays Gulbis, a Latvian I admit to never having heard of before...
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 09:58 AM (GMT)
Acasuso will face a seed first round, as will Mathieu.
Nadal gets Del Potro. Oof.
liam_valid - May 25, 2007 09:58 AM (GMT)
whos this gulbis bloke that Tims drawn????
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
Davydenko in Federer's half, Roddick in Nadal's.
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
Djokovic in Nadal's half, Federer gets Ljubicic in his quarter and Gonzalez in his half. *snicker*
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
Nadal gets Blake for the quarters. Heh.
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 10:00 AM (GMT)
Federer has a nice easy match against Russell of US, Nadal gets up-and-coming Del Potro, so will get a nice test in 1st round...Djokovic in Nadal's half again...Fed has Davydenko, Robredo and Ljubicic.
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:00 AM (GMT)
Ferrer and Djokovic in the R16. Could be tough for the Serb given their MC encounter.
Gasquet and Gonzalez in the R16.
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:01 AM (GMT)
Hewitt and Nadal in the R16. Again. All bets are off.
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
Nalbandian in Fed's half, as are Gasquet, Chela, Safin, Youzhny and Ferrero...
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
Potential Federer v Safin in the QFs. (Yeah right.) Federer also gets Ferrero and Youzhny. Snooze.
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
Caņas in Federer's half. He'd have to reach the SFs for a rematch. Unlikely.
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 10:03 AM (GMT)
Roddick could be out 1st round - has to play Andreev...Hewitt potential 4th round opponent for Nadal...
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:03 AM (GMT)
Benneteau for Federer in the third round. Tough luck for last year's quarterfinalist. Good luck for the No 1, of course.
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:04 AM (GMT)
Almagro is 32nd seed thanks to Fish. Will face Davydenko in the third round. Oof.
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 10:05 AM (GMT)
Fed gets Almagro in his half too...I'd say Nadal's half looks slightly nicer, apart from Del Potro 1st round and Hewitt 4th round...

nd prob Massu in second. I might have to put a fiver on Roddick not making the 3rd round
Tenez - May 25, 2007 10:05 AM (GMT)
Ouch not easy for Nadal this time. I think Hewitt is the 3rd best player on clay this season, Davydenko coming 4th.
MrInvisible - May 25, 2007 10:07 AM (GMT)
Henman to play Nadal, if he can get past Gulbis and Soderling/Montanes first...
Tenez - May 25, 2007 10:10 AM (GMT)
I would think this time around that Nadal's draw is tougher. I would not want hewitt in the draw, then a Blake /Djoko.
I woudl say the diffidulty for Federer will be Davy and possibly Nalby.
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:11 AM (GMT)
Disappointed about Hewitt. Another clash with Nadal is more worthy of a QF or even a SF.
Djokovic pretty much owns his quarter, I think, if he can only get past Ferrer.
Nalbandian won't go anywhere with a Chela match-up for the third-round--his countryman has been far more convincing lately. Even if he wins through somehow he'll have either Davydenko or Almagro next. Gasquet will have difficulties as well, with Caņas in his way.
Federer v Volandri QF? Heh.
Sam - May 25, 2007 10:36 AM (GMT)
a few tricky first rounds there for the top seeds...
Del Potro vs. Nadal could be interesting, and am not sure Federer will be delighted with getting Michael Russell, who has progressed here before and nearly took Nadal out of the Aussie Open
And Roddick must be going bonkers roflmao
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:41 AM (GMT)
Roddick has Andreev, Horna, Massu, Simon and PHM all crammed into his first three rounds. He might want to twist his ankle now and get it over with.
Blake and Karlovic is an interesting first-round match. Unlike Blake, the Croat has won a clay title. :P He also got the better of him in San Jose. The American should still get through, though. He also can't seem to escape Moya, who can face him for the fourth time this year (having won their clay encounter) in the R16, or else Berdych, who beat him in their Davis Cup tie earlier this year (on clay and best-of-five).
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:45 AM (GMT)
Don't think anyone has noticed Nadal has got Soderling for the third round. The Spaniard had a tricky but straightforward win over him last year, but the Swede is much improved since then and has had some good results this clay season. So basically we have Del Potro, Soderling, Hewitt, Berdych/Blake/Moya, and Djokovic, all for the privilege of facing Federer in the final. Perhaps this will finally silence the ever-present 'easy draw!' hecklers. Not that anything ever really does.

If Soderling gets through to play Rafa, it will be interesting, as Soderling will have the guts to go for everything and possibly hit holes through Rafa - still he needs a near-perfect day to do it and he doesn't produce it enough
Manzikert - May 25, 2007 10:59 AM (GMT)
Anyhow, a round-up of what seem noteworthy first- or second-round encounters:
Ljubicic v Clement (I think the home favourite has the edge here)
Safin v Qualifier  (then hopefully Safin v Tipsarevic next)
Chela v Santoro (winner to face Monfils, having a good run in Austria this week)
Vassallo Arguello (R16 last year) v Falla (up-and-coming Colombian)
Caņas v Bolelli
Gasquet v Mahut (all-French encounter--also Mahut has been dangerous before but not for some time)
Acasuso v Melzer (winner to face Monaco)
Baghdatis v Grosjean
Mayer v Mathieu (winner to face Simon)
Hewitt v Gaudio (okay, this only would've been interesting in 2005)
Blake v Karlovic
Add more as you spot them.

True. And when he does produce it, he stops pressing after about a set and a half. He surrendered some promising leads against Berdych, Djokovic and Ferrer in the Masters events, though all are tough opponents to be sure. Soderling is still quite dangerous I'd think.
chetanpv - May 25, 2007 11:05 AM (GMT)
Mike Russel have every chance of beating Federer on an off day. Same case with JMDP also with Nadal.
Just had a wacky thought. What if both the top two seeds fall in the first round :yikes: .

i doubt that will happen. But As I said both of them could have had better draws - Russell famously choked against Kuerten!
