Title: French Open Qualifying
Dinky Jo - May 22, 2007 01:03 PM (GMT)
The qualifying matches for RG started earlier today
Qualifying DrawQuite a few of the seeded players have already been knocked out:
Sanguinetti (4)
De Voest (27)
Karanusic (31) - who got beaten by Rainer Schuettler
Dancevic (8)
Moodie (13) - got beaten by C Rochus
Dick Norman (25)
And Britwatch:
Joshua Goodall lost to Navarro Pastor 6-3, 2-6, 2-6 :(
vivahate - May 22, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
Dancevic (8)
too bad for the up and coming canadian :(
MrInvisible - May 22, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
In other news, Bogdanovic is up a set and a break against Yuri Schukin of Russia (Boggo is seeded 9!).
Albert Portas (he of the legendary dropshot) is down a set, but about to win 2nd set against Jerome Haehnel
Boris (Pashanski) won against Voinea of Romania.
Jonny Marray got trounced.
Kuznetsov and Dlouhy won, Robin Vik won, as did Capdeville (remember his fight against Ancic?), Ivo Minar, Raemon Sluiter, Fernando Vicente (I'd forgotten all about him), Zib (he's always a borderline ATP/Challenger player - too good for Challengers, not good enough for regular ATP),
Top seed is Zabaleta, who I'd completely forgotten about!
Do the women start tomorrow?
MrInvisible - May 23, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
Yay!! Found this thread again! What's the latest news on qualifying?
For the Brits on here, Goodall and Marray (Marray not Murray!) lost, but Bogdanovic, who is seeded 9 in qualifying, won.
What's happening today so far though, both in terms of general interest, and for British tennis followers? Anyone been following the scoring board?
GS2 - May 23, 2007 12:09 PM (GMT)
Florence Haring bt Katie O'Brien 4-6 6-3 6-3
(FRA) (GBR)
Olga Savchuk bt Amanda Keen 6-7(4) 7-6(4) 6-1
(UKR)[18] (GBR)
Anne Keothavong bt Ayumi Morita 7-5 6-4
(GBR) (JPN)
Michaela Pastikova bt Melanie South 6-3 3-6 6-3
(CZE) (GBR)
It's all the ladies today - only Keothavong of the Brits has won so far (not sure if there are any more in the draw actually)
Not much else in terms of excitement - the closest the draw has to names, Peschke & Arvidsson are through - not sure if Suarez & Ruano Pascual have played yet.
SerenaW19 - May 23, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
Oblivion will be pleased Keothavong won :D
MrInvisible - May 23, 2007 02:09 PM (GMT)
So, Keothavong wins on an otherwise dismal day for the British women. Is British involvement in qualifiers now just resting on Bogdanovic in the mens' draw and Keothavong in the womens? Even adding good 'ole Tim Henman (the only British representative confirmed in main draw) its looking a typically bleak French Open from a British point of view.
And regrettably, British media interest in tennis will rely heavily on whether Murray is fit again in time for the grasscourt season (my completely random guess is that he'll miss Queens Stella Artois, get wildcard for Nottingham, or play in Surbiton trophy, and then play Wimbledon).
Dinky Jo - May 23, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
There are a few 2nd round men's qualifying matches being played today - most of them in progress now.
The 2 remaining British representatives are in action tomorrow:
Boggo will be playing Frederico Gil from Portugal and Keothavong will be playing Meng Yuan of China!
MrInvisible - May 24, 2007 09:29 AM (GMT)
Any news on the Bogdanovic and Keothavong matches yet? I'm not building my hopes up to much, but wouldn't it be nice though if we could have at least *one* British qualifier competing in the French Open.

That's sad! ;)
Dinky Jo - May 24, 2007 09:53 AM (GMT)
Keothavong is down a break in the first set of her match.
Boggo is on later - there's a couple of matches to go before his!
MrInvisible - May 24, 2007 10:07 AM (GMT)
Keothavong loses first set 6-3, :( 1-0 down in 2nd set, going with serve.
SuperBRAT - May 24, 2007 12:02 PM (GMT)
Looking like we are pinnign our hopes on Boggo then, oh dear! roflmao
Dinky Jo - May 24, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
Keothavong lost 6-3, 6-2 :(

liam_valid - May 24, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
She went out tamely 6-3 6-2 :(
SerenaW19 - May 24, 2007 12:42 PM (GMT)
Shame :( Hopefully the British girls will be able to win a couple of rounds at Wimbers though :)
liam_valid - May 24, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
Boggo is 4-1 down first set. Looks like Tim will be carrying the flag alone again

:( As expected really.
MrInvisible - May 24, 2007 01:39 PM (GMT)
Boggo lost 6-3 6-0! Its the lack of strength of depth in British tennis that I find so disappointing. Apart from the odd exception (e.g. Goodall last year at US Open) why are us Brits so rubbish at getting players through the qualifiers of slams?
