Title: Who will beat Fed at RG?
liam_valid - May 16, 2007 03:31 PM (GMT)
The last year or two, the arguament has been about whether or not Nadal can stop Fed from winning his maiden RG crown. After recent events, however, it seems that Nadal is not the only player Fed has to fear. With Volandri beating him recently bouyed by his home crowd, i would even think it possible Gasquet could pull off a similar shock. Who do you think will put him out this year?

Nadal is still the most likely candidate to beat him in my opinion.

Good call!! :ok:
I think that one of MJT's 10 commandments is : "Thou shalt not doubt thy Fed (even at the French Open!)"
So here's hoping..

Yep, to be honest I think this slump of Feds could work in his favour at the FO.. He's taking all the pressure off himself . I wonder how much of it is a genuine lack of form , or simply saving his best for what would be a monumental achievement if he wins .

Fed has more or less suggested that he's bidding his time for RG in recent press interviews.Let's hope it's a good tactic.

Well, he was waaayyyyy too tense at RG last year.
If he relaxes and just goes for it at RG this year, with less pressure, then maybe that would stand him in good stead?

The thought that feds recent lack of form is to take the pressure off himself is attractive, and i'ld like to believe it-is sacking his coach part of the bluff in this intricate strategy?
I think it might be a bit too clever for me!

According to Fed it was on the cards for some time . I dont think its a big deal (the timing of it ) . He sacked Lundgren ,not exactly out of desperation either and went on to win more slams. Does he really need a coach anyway?

Well I hope that whoever does beat Fed at RG doesn't do it until 2009 or something, after he's pocketed a couple of titles.. ;)

They way he's playing on clay right now, I see him out in the first week.

Nadal in the final again. Regardless of the surface, for everybody bar Nadal, Federer is a far more formidable opponent over a best of 5 set match than a best of 3 set match. However I can't Federer beating Nadal, who is a better player than he was this time last year.

Regarding Canas, admittedly his playing style makes him a bad match-up for Federer. However people have assumed that just because he is Argentinean, the surface that suits his game the most is clay. However I disagree and I think that he is better suited to the hardcourts. Canas hits his backhands short and it is much easier to punish that on clay than a hardcourt. I think that if Federer was to meet Canas at the French Open, he would win.
