Title: Premiership final day!

What a thrilling couple of hours yesterday!
West Ham did a fantastic job in winning 1-0 at Old Trafford to secure their safety (with a goal from Tevez of all people!), leaving it to Sheffield United and Wigan to fight it out in a relegation playoff. If wigan won, they were safe, if United won or it was a draw, they were safe!
at half time it was 2-1 to wigan, with David Unsworth (who had been at united just a few months before) scoring a penalty on the stroke of half time.
in the second half it was an heroic defensive effort from Wigan, who lost their inspirational defender and captain De Zeeuw, and another defender, and went down to ten men! They deserved to stay up for how brave they were in withstanding some immense pressure.
That's not the end of the story yet, as clubs are forming an alliance to take West Ham to court over their illegal transfer of Carlos Tevez. However, in my opinion, they deserve to stay up on the back of their final day performance if nothing else, and their amazing comeback!

Well done Alan Curbishley - he did a fantastic job keeping up West Ham. The team was in turmoil all season, Tevez had been underperforming, but Curbishley managed to get the team focused and his star player in top form, probably building up a 'siege mentality' as the club were criticised each day over the Tevez signing scandal. Winning 7 out of 9 matches is a fantastic run at the end of the season, especially winning at Manchester United, who are a tough proposition even when resting players and even when they're celebrating the title.
I don't like all these legal battles going on with Wigan, Sheff Utd, etc over West Ham - leaves a bad taste. In sport I think you should have to take these decisions on the chin and live with them, rather than looking for excuses. Sheffield United got relegated as they couldn't perform when it mattered, on the final day of the season.
Commiserations for Warnock and Sheffield United though - Warnock was one of the Premiership characters this season and the top flight will miss their vocal fans.
Interesting managerial departures at moment: Pearce sacked at Man City - surely a response to Jewell leaving Wigan?

good riddance i say. especially colin wanker (anagram of neil warnock). they slated us so much on our relegation, they deserve everything they get. colin's trying to blame their relegation on everyone but themselves, they played 38 games, and weren't good enough at the end of it. and it's nice to see matthew kilgallon played a big part in their relegation :D
they try to say their yorkshire's no.1, but at least leeds, wednesday and even bradford, have managed more than one season in the premiership.

Agreed - West Ham should not be relegated as a result of all this commotion. Had they not started to stage their brilliant comeback none of the clubs would be moaning at all.
At the end of the day, the final day often shows who really does deserve to stay up - Sheffield United went down because they lost at home to their biggest relegation rival, so they did deserve to go down!

Just a shame you won't even get the chance to play Sheff Utd next season! roflmao
For people who don't have any bias or prejudice, it is a shame to see Sheff Utd go down - Warnock is a real character if nothing else and always brought a smile to the face on Match of the Day. Leicester themselves don't like them that much from when we fought (well, mildly threatened) for promotion a few years back, so that is spoken from the head.
The margins were unbelievably close - two extra goals over the whole course of the season was all that stood between United and safety!
