Serena :yahoo:

Pretty good field to be fair...not an easy route for Serena though, she could well face Peer...again, then Mauresmo in the quarters...revenge time  then Jankovic in the semis :D then Vaidisova/Kuzzy in the final.

I hope she's better  Time to reclaim the Rome crown; hopefully she won't get overexcited like me and will take it one match at a time :)

I think she should get the semis though Jankovic/Kuzzy are the only ones really in form at the moment, that's where it all get's interesting!

Dementieva and Petrova can't escape each other.

The Mauresmo v Serena encounter, if it takes place, has the potential to be intriguing especially given the nature of their last match-up. I think it's too soon for the Frenchwoman after seeing what took place this week, however (since Serena demonstrated in Miami that she can pick up where she left off after a layoff). Can't believe it'll be another Peer v Serena clash; will clay give the Israeli a leg up, given her titles on the surface?

Not sure what to expect of the bottom half. Kuznetsova seems to have Vaidisova's number so perhaps she'll come through any semi. The draws have shaped up unpredictably with virtually every clay tourney so far so I don't expect that to change now.

no defence for martina :( :( :(

i don't know where serena's at on clay in 07, but i'd say jankovic has a great shot at this title.

Pretty decent draw despite some big name absences (Henin, Hingis, Venus, Maria)

Top quarter is quite packed - Mauresmo is going to have it tough with Schiavone, Stosur & Schnyder all lurking. Given her form in Berlin it's questionable if she'll even reach the QF with Serena.

I reckon Serena should make the semis as long as she is fit - Peer was off her game last week and has a horrible 1st round draw against Radwanska.

There though she'll probably come up against Jankovic who has definitely found her form again (as long as she isn't playing Justine!) and who should make it past Petrova in the QF's to reach the semis. Rome is where she turned things round last year - reaching the QF's and I reckon she'll thrive once again in her favourite city. Though she may have to beat the winner of the inform minor players to do it as Bondarenko & Vakulenko are drawn to meet in the first round!

The bottom half should really be Kuzzy's given her current form though she has potentially tricky matches against Li Na who beat her at Wimbledon last year, Oprandi who she met in the QF's last year and should have beat Svetlana really. Safina who did beat her in the semis last year & Ivanovic in a potential early rerun of the Berlin final.

After that a possible rematch with Vaidisova in the semis awaits though given Nicole's lack of matches that might be expecting too much from her. Though really it's hard to see just who can come out of that section. Neither Chakvetadze, Srebotnik or Hantuchova impressed in Berlin last week. Bammer could come through possibly but all in all it looks to be the most unpredictable section of the draw at least on paper.

All in all a Serena/Jelena v Svetlana final looks the most likely bet at the moment but who knows - Rome certainly through up plenty of surprises last year and probably will again.

The draw does lack a bit of big-star value this year. Last year there was Venus, hingis, Clijsters etc, but at least we have Serena in the mix :D

Serena has a pretty good draw to be honest. Poutchkova could be a tough match-up in the second round, but hasnt shown much of her late 2006 form where she reached a couple of tier IV finals. The most intresting match in that quarter early on is Peer vs Radwanska. Peer has had a couple of bad tourny's at charleston and berlin, injured in the former and just basically flat in the latter. Radwanska apart from a round of 16 performance in miami where she beat hingis, hasnt really been setting the tour alight, mainly due to playing a limited amount of tourny's since that miami tourny. Still i would very much like to see a Serena-Radwanska m,atch-up, just to see where the young Pole is at.

Its gonna be tough for mauresmo. Granted she's coming off surgery, but she looked very sluggish and lethargic in berlin. She's desperately needs more matches at the moment, but at least she may have a reprieve from the dilligent clay-courter Schiavone who's been in major slumpage this year. Schnyder is looming though and has a soft couple of matches before she meets mauresmo. I have to say, patty did look strong in berlin. Mauresmo will have to be sharp early on to avoid another early exit.

Jankovic's route to the quarters looks comfortable. Vakulenko's in the mix, but probably not much of a threat considering her recent injury. I would love to see Penetta do well here( who is defending quarter-final points), but her form has been mediocre at best coming off her injury.

Be intresting to see how Dementieva fares. Still schackled with rust, maria elena camerin is quite a tough draw. However i feel Dementieva will fight through to another Petrova clash, and then we'll see how dEmentieva is really playing.

Vaidisova has a pretty uncomfortable looking draw. I can see medina garrigues causing some problems should she meet vaidisova. Kuznetsova has a decent draw, but na Li could be a huge test for the russian, or at least on paper. Li's form is hardly consistent.

Overall i'm sticking my neck out for a Serena-Kuznetsova final. Still i think Li na, iVanovic and Radwanska are ones to watch. I have a feeling about the latter especially..........

Clijsters? Her retirement has softened you dl ;)

Hopefully Serena will go all the way, tough draw though, she needs some tough matches though since this will be her only preparation for RG, and as good as Serena is, I really think she needs matches on clay before RG, she hasn't played on it in 2 years :o

I think a Serena-Sveta final is on the cards too :)

Last time she slid on clay, she skipped the French, busting her ankle in AI roflmao

i'd love to be a fly on the wall for Serena's RG practice sessions
