Title: German Open

Anyone caught the great match played today between Svetlana and Nadia Petrova at the quarterfinal of the German Open?
That's the best I've seen Svetlana play all year, serving consistently big and close to the lines even on second serves. Plus she hit a second serve ace down the middle on matchpoint! In fact, she's been serving well all week saving loads of breakpoints.
Hopefully she can keep the confidence for the semifinal against either Jankovic or Henin. She has to beat Henin sometime.

Yep definitley the best Svetlana has played in quite a long while.
I wish could play well against Henin but she hardly ever seems to be able to produce her best against her.
Will have to see hopefully Sveta can find her best form consistently. Might make her quite a threat going into the FO :)

Why does everyone find their best form when playing Petrova? :(

Well Liam, Petrova hasn't been the same player so far this year as she was last year before the injury. Nadia just has to keep persevering.
Svetlana has all the shots to beat Justine. She just needs to remember what she can do and keep believing she can do it and not get phased by Henin's retrieving skills.
But who knows it could be Jankovic and we now Jelena gives everything so whoever the opponent is it will be a tough and hopefully high quality match.

Like i said in another thread, the winner of the Henin/Jankovic match is Kuzzy!!!! She will be fully rested before her match, which could in turn be bad for her if she has all day to think about playing Henin

I like it Liam. Will this match EVER be concluded? They came out to play just now and walked straight back in because it started raining again
Message to Justine: Do me a favour please, tank the two finals games, go back to Monaco and practice, practice, practice for your 4th RG title. You've won this tournament 3 times already, you've got over 4000 points and you're in a good lead. Don't waste your energy. Just think ... Sveta and Jelena need it more than you do. Go home, rest and come out fit and raring to go at RG   :giggle: :P

That's decent advice, actually. She can leave with a moral victory intact. :P
Berlin seems to always run into some scheduling issues. There was the Hingis v Mauresmo QF of last year, and Henin had to play her SF and title match on the same day the year before if I recall.

Correct .... the QF and SF of JH being 3 setters and then she went on to win the final :D That was the year that she made a comeback from her virus. She then went onto win RG with a pulled tendon in her thigh, lost 1st round of Wimbledon in a tight 3 setter and was out for 2 months until Canada where she still had that injury but went on to lose in the final to Clijsters.
Oh I just love her

What a crazy semifinal!!
Hope Svetlana hasn't blown it again.

Well after finally beating Henin it's a shame Svetlana couldn't close the deal against Ivanovic. She wanted to win so badly that after winning the 1st set with really good play she became tight and nervous in the second set and lost her rythm completely - allowing Ana to regain confidence. I know Svetlana was pretty distraught at the end.
But there is a lot of Tennis to be played so she's bound to win a final at some point after losing the last 3 finals she's played - she's got to remain composed and not let the moment get to her.
