Title: Higgins Hobbles part Super Selby!

Sam - May 8, 2007 07:11 AM (GMT)
Great match from both players - even when the game looked like it was slowing up at around 11 o'clock, the all-round games of both players was fantastic - the safety battle over the yellow that last for more than 20 minutes!

Higgins just about deserved to win owing to his efforts yesterday - Selby simply had too much to do, but he will win this title, no doubt, as he has everything, and is one of the most imaginative players on the circuit.

One thing I would say though - I think it is about time they introduced a days break between the semi-final and final. Throughout Sunday Selby was clearly exhausted after his exploits the night before and the tiredness allowed Higgins to build that huge lead as much as his own good play. remember Higgins, in comparison, had had a good nights kip.

Anyway, great advert for snooker, two attacking snooker players showing how well the game can be played (unlike the Dott-Ebdon final last year!)

Mark, you did Leicester proud!

It's a shame it fizzled out a bit right at the end, but well done Selby for fighting back like he did. He looked good yesterday, it's a shame he wasn't as good on Sunday.

Congrats Higgins, he was no doubt the best player over the tournament and deserved his win!

Yes, Higgins deserved a second world title. Its hard to believe its nine years between them.

I was really rooting for Selby though, great fightback, and far more interesting to watch than Higgins . But it was probably experience that made the difference overall , Im sure Selby will win it soon though . He's got all the qualities .

He's the real deal, I can't see an obvious weakness in his game other than inexperience :D

Sadly I hardly saw any snooker, but did catch Selby a few times and was most impressed by him as I had my eye on him a couple of years back to do well. he has a real buzz of energy about him and is a great potter, quite inventive and expresses personality and emotion which is good to see. I like him a lot, and will be rooting for him next time. great performance to come back in the final like he did. I am not convinced that Higgins was so deserving of this win, great player (an underachiever IMO) and had a great tournie but I cant; help but feel that he did not convince quickyl enough in this final. I mean lettign that lead slip like that. If Selby hadnt; been so drained from the night before I reckon he'd have took Higgins out fairly easily.

Well done to John though, a smashing gent that he is. And good win for him, as most woudl have said he had past his sell by date. he was kind fo the new Hendry 9 years back and never did as well as hoped. Well done anyway.

Btw Selby - has a strange adn often incorrect cueing action, a bit liek mine only I cant; pot as many balls! roflmao

His cueing, seriously, at times is ropey but who cares? Great potter and a lot of guts.

He was cueing beautifully in the semi and final day of the final mind :)

He will be some player because of his fantastic attitude

Oh yeah, sure will.

In that semi with Murphy though, the decider frame - his cueing looked a bit dodgy, but he won it. I liek Murphy as wel, nice lad and very grounded. Winning it so young and when unseeded takes soem nerve.

Mind you, deciding frames are always like that - he still made a big break that won it!

I remember Stephen Hendry's cueing going to pot in his final frame decider with Ebdon a few years back - extraordinary!

I know! I Realyl enjoyed that final with Hendry and Ebdon. A classic IMO. I'm sure I'll get slated for syaign so but Ebdon is a remarkable player. Very cerebral, tough psychologically and focused, plus a bit mad at times. :D

Was never a fan of Hendry as he kept beating my faves, White and Davis. However, I really respect the guy now, to still be near the top at hsi age and after a period where his play went downhill is truyl remarkable. He did used to bore me, but he was so good and he changed the game to a more attacking game than it was before. One of the best long potters ever too.

Speaking of great logn potters, what the hell has happened to Mark Williams?

I like Ebdon, he's a real eccentric player and is clearly Ivan Ljubicic's brother - but it's terrible when he plays a boring player like a Dott!

Hendry is a legend, I grew up watching him play and he was the god of the green baize - he looked unbeatable.

Mark Williams' decline is strange I know - mind di you know he actually can't tell the brown from the red cos he is slightly colour blind?

SuperBRAT - May 16, 2007 08:49 PM (GMT)
No I never knew that! He just seems to have declined for somereason. Maybe it's his girlfriend? :D He is so laid back though, I quite like him.
