Title: Barcelona Semis

Looks like Canas is about to wrap up his match against Calleri. Now it'll be Nadal's turn to complete the final line-up that many of us hoped to see . . . the two Fed-killers battling each other. :ok:

And Canas does wrap it up with a 7-6 6-7 6-2 win.

Nadal v. Ferrer to start shortly. :)

So Canas v Nadal it is -
it would be interesting if the Argentine could whoop Rafa's often-touched bum a bit, it would make things even more interesting than they already are. However, I don't think it's likely to happen. Rafa beat Canas in straight sets twice on clay in 2005. Canas wasn't badly ranked back then, and while I think we can argue that he has improved, so has Nadal. Guillermo would do well to win a set. Something like a 7-5 6-3 victory for Rafa is more likely.

Be interesting if it was at least 3 sets...

Kind of like with Federer in MC, Ferrer put up stiff resistance for a set with several breaks of serve but faded once the favourite found his stride. Still Nadal did well to come away with a convincing 7-5, 6-1 win in the end against a tough opponent. A good solid win for Caņas as well in outlasting his compatriot 7-6(1), 6-7(5), 6-2 in the other semi despite missing match points in the second set.
So like Nick put it we have the battle of the Fed-slayers in the final. B) It's an intriguing match-up, more so when you consider that Caņas has already extinguished one impressive consecutive win streak this year; can he do it again? I don't see it happening, but the Argentine may yet be the first to take a set off Nadal in the clay season so far. It's all about moving the goalposts. :P
As a curious sidenote, Nadal has also been indomitable this week in doubles--he and partner Salvo-Vidal have yet to concede a set, even with eyebrow-raising upsets against the No 1 and No 3 seeded teams. He'll be contesting the singles and doubles finals tomorrow, hoping to win both titles at the same tournament for the first time.
