Title: Our New Home
liam_valid - April 25, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/scie...ort+life/466372I have been reading books on astronomy and astro-physics since i was a kid, and have always believed there are Earth like planets orbiting Sun like stars, and now we have found one at last. Obviously there is no proof as yet that the planet is like ours, or that life can exist there, but in time, im sure we will have the technology to look closer at planets like these (and im confident there are countless numbers of them), and maybe even travel to them. Lets face it, the way we are looking after this planet, it wont be too long before we need a new home....

I knew it :D
It's quite close in galactic terms as well. We could never go with our current technology, of course.
But's nice to know that someday in the future when we've buggered up the earth beyond repair, there might be options.
Other than terraforming Mars of course. I am fascinated by stuff like this :D

It's fascinating, I do think peopel should start looking after this place though - I mean a new planet might sound all very exciting but it might nto be as easy to live on or as nice as this one. So all these sci fi movies where people live on new planets and cant; leave oxygen tents are coming true then. :o :D
SerenaW19 - April 26, 2007 03:21 PM (GMT)
Well obviously Id prefer to live here ;)
I find it a shame that so little advance in the exploration of space has been made in the last 30 years. Im a bit of a sci fi fan and would love to see how far we could develop technologies in my lifetime, set up a colony on Mars, who knows what?
All very interesting, shame we're only observers atm though.

No. We'll be able to leave the oxygen tents, once the hero breaks out and manages to start up the atmosphere-generating machine built below the planet's surface by an ancient alien race and now being hidden from us by the power-mongers who control the oxygen.

Is that one of those machines that seems to gnerate oxygen at the touch of a button, with some flimsy and illogical scientific explanation beign given in the film? :D

so are we planetviruses?
We ain't parasitic, because true parasites exist in a symbiosis with their host - live/live
we seem to destroy and move on...
