Title: Federer 500 Wins
barrystar - April 20, 2007 05:32 PM (GMT)
As most of you know, Federer passed this milestone by beating Ferrer today.
This is what he said in interview afterwards when asked which was his most memorable win:
"First one is probably the [Pete] Sampras win comes to my mind. Always going to stay the most special one for me. First Wimbledon Centre Court appearance, first and only time against Pete and I beat him. It was an incredible match. If I had to pick one it would probably be that one."
Edit: At the same age Sampras had won 522 and lost 141 (Fed is 500 to 127), like Fed Sampras had won 47 titles, and the running GS count between them is 9-10 in Fed's favour.

What's the joke TV?
Two great players level-pegging in their careers. In fact, the similarities are quite uncanny. It is easy to compare them because they were born in August 10 years apart (1971 to 1981) The website is here:
http://www.tennis28.com/studies/Federer_Sampras.htmlAnd they keep it pretty well updated (not taken MC into account yet).
Good photos in vogue, but the script is a bit gushy about how wonderful he is. His opponents might be unimpressed by this: "The number one player in the world for more than three years is currently forced to ask himself a question that few have ever had to confront: How do you reveal the perfection of your game when there is no one around to push you to your limits?" - ugh, and I am saying that as someone who likes him! I hope he did not go along with that as if he gets battered on clay by Nadal this year it looks pretty silly.
Have a good weekend anyway.

Barry I was simply trying to provoke the Wise Lion.. :D ..The link with the comparison is great and I look at it time to time...very useful B)
Vogue is just too :) :) Silly...I mean they know nothing about Tennis...The sentences are just nonsense: three year at the top do not mean you do not have opponents, i.e. rafa is there and the other as well
Ciao B)

I seriously hope that if Federer does read that he does not take it too much to heart.
It could destroy him.
Serena said at the beginning she used to read articles about her, mostly saying how wonderful she is etc. But that it affected her too much so she doesn't read anything good or bad now. She just does her thing. Which I think is good :)
I like Barry and others, feel that Federer has let his ego get a little bit too large of late. I hope he realises that he isn't in a league of his own yet and stays on planet earth :) Especially when he's playing his matches ;)

Fully agree...I have the same feeling..The clay season is just at the right time...This will calm down the ego...For sure: Rafa will do ;)

Oi, TV - get on with enjoying yourself in France and stop sneaking by to tweak the lion's tale. There's plenty of time for you to do that later on (although if the "perfect" Rogelio does not improve the lion may be tweaking your tail at RG time...)
Have fun :ok:

I dont mind if Federer take Nadals clay court streak from him, he has worked hard for it.
