Title: Federer vs. Ferrer

barrystar - April 20, 2007 11:35 AM (GMT)
Just started - Fed has 3 bps on Ferrer's opening service game.

barrystar - April 20, 2007 11:37 AM (GMT)
Fed wins first game to 15 on Ferrer's serve. 0-1 in the first set.

Tenez - April 20, 2007 11:37 AM (GMT)
Looks like the old Roger is back!

barrystar - April 20, 2007 11:42 AM (GMT)
Fed 2-0 up, and Ferrer is 30-15 on his serve

Dark_Necrofear - April 20, 2007 11:43 AM (GMT)

Slow start from Ferrer here, but he was also a break down in the first set against Djokovic. If he plays to the same standard here, he should set up a semi-final against Ferrero or Gasquet.

Nearly Dark, today's offering from Tony is:

"Feisty Ferrer to flatten Federer

Federer shocked everyone with his win over Hyung Taik Lee yesterday, however, his run ends here. Ferrer is the right handed Nadal.

6-1, 6-2 victory for the scintillating Spaniard."

He's already wrong.

Edit: But Wise may have been closer to the money! This may be an important match.

Federer claims the break again!

MrInvisible - April 20, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
A commentator's dream this match, its a shame though that Wayne Ferreira doesn't play any more though, as otherwise we could have a great doubles match:

Federer/Ferreira v Ferrero/Ferrer

Ferrer breaks back and holds

Manzikert - April 20, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
I've been taking Ferrer seriously this year (possibly for the first time :P )--I used to call him the invisible seed. He's been one of the form players in 2007, standing at No 12 in the Race, and the few matches of his I've caught in the interim have impressed me. He's a defensive player, but aggressively so--not so much an oxymoron as it may sound. Excellent athleticism and feel for the court.

I suspect he may not have the mental fortitude to hold his own against Federer, although he may have the game for it if he can take advantage of any weaknesses that may present themselves. There will probably be plenty of breaks in this match (two exchanges already in fact) even for clay, with Ferrer feeling more comfortable to attack serve whilst not always holding up on his own.

4-3 for the Spaniard. Intriguing. This may be just the sort of encounter to whip Federer into fighting form finally.

Same here, he's been consistently in the latter stages of tournaments...

5-4 Rog

My offering back to Tony A was:

Feisty Federer will flummox fighting Ferrer, forsooth not so fleetingly.

6-4 Some great shots in that final game.

Did you go to the advanced alliteration cousr hel by Tony?

Wise_Analyst - April 20, 2007 12:13 PM (GMT)
Ferrer's game isn't dissimilar to Canas's, but unfortunately his serve and mental strength hamper the comparison. Ferrer chokes at the business end of the set and Federer takes it 6-4.

roflmao roflmao Great Sara..In any case Roger with the first set 6-4..

I am not following the match but only the results so thanks for your comments...
;) ;) Really appreciate here :) :)

I wanted "TonyA who never predicts incorrectly" to have a taste of his own medicine.

6-4 Fed!!! :D

Manzikert - April 20, 2007 12:15 PM (GMT)
A classy return winner from Ferrer got him to 40-30, but Federer responds with an ace to take the game and set 6-4. Really lifted his level in the last two games, as he needed to.

If the Spaniard were going to make his move I feel it would have been during a slow start from the No 1. Should be plain sailing from here.

Ferrero is in the other QF - so if he wins there will be a second commentator's dreamboat in a row (whoever wins this one).

Looks like Fed's finger has finally seen the light of day for the first time in about 6 weeks.

Commanding hold to love for 2-0.

I'm already thinking of the remaining QFs. B) I hope Gasquet comes through so we get some nice SF line-ups with plenty of history to them: Federer v Gasquet (the Frenchman notching his memorable win in the QFs of MC) and Berdych v Nadal.

3-0 for the Fed Express...he's back to the winning machine!

Manzikert - April 20, 2007 12:25 PM (GMT)
From 40-15 to Ad Federer. And the Swiss gets the second break for a 3-0 lead. It's all over but the crying now, unless we'll have a second QF today go from a set and 3-0 up to a loss. :P

I hope as well roflmao roflmao ...I am leaving near France and when this kind of stuff happen it is always so funny: The French press can be so unbelievable...Poor Gasquet what a pressure he will have...

BTW: I really hope because Gasquet has a very spectacular Tennis with plenty of shots..Yes let's hope.

4-0 now for   FED Just GREAT

Manzikert - April 20, 2007 12:29 PM (GMT)
Faintly surprising to see the match go downhill quite so rapidly after quality play to 4-all in the first. Federer playing now like he has somewhere to go this afternoon.

A disappointing bagel probably in the works, 15-40 on Ferrer's serve.
