This is quite the interesting encounter. They have met once before at the 05 US Open and Richard won that!

Gasquet Vs Ljubicic
6-3

Tenez - April 19, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
Looks like Lubo is already tired.

Good compact play from Gasquet so far though.

6-3 2-0

Well Gasquet I cannot question his play or the fact that he will win against Ljubo on clay.I mean if he beat him on a hardcourt then clay is a walk in the park for him.But this child has been known to have some choke demons!

PS....It would be really nice if someone could come up with nice handdrawn image of a tennis choke demon :D Its about time we get one since it seems to be prime topic for many so call "knowledgable" posters! roflmao

He is not tired he is simply being steamroll. When till Ljubicic make it out of the top ten. :D

I am back to Gasquet as well: Richard needs to find some good results...

Still I do not believe it will be so easy for him in the second: Lubo is not Nalbi if he has a chance to do something he will try.. B)

Youp a set all...

Lubo took the tie break 7-5

Richard was able to save two set points but he failed to save the third...

Well well Lubo will fight even in the third no doubt on that :)

Dark_Necrofear - April 19, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)

3 break opportunities for Gasquet at the beginning of the third..

He took the first one...

Richard :ok: 2-0 on the third..

Great start...Might be this time he wil hold

Tennisveritas - April 19, 2007 01:53 PM (GMT)
Lubo break back...

2-1 Gasquet...AHHHH..I am losing my mind with this guy

Tennisveritas - April 19, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
2-2 Lubo was able to hold but Richard had a couple of break points... :(2 :(2

Dark_Necrofear - April 19, 2007 02:10 PM (GMT)
To be honest,Gasquet is a great talent but is overhyped...He is going to be an underachiever because people expect to much from him!

MrInvisible - April 19, 2007 02:26 PM (GMT)
What's the score anyone? Is the match still going on?

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
Gasquet up 4-3 and 40-0 on Ljubicic's serve . . .

Ivan saves one break point.

And another - 30-40.

Second serve.

And Richard breaks!

Can he hold here for the match??

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:30 PM (GMT)
0-30

Dark_Necrofear - April 19, 2007 02:30 PM (GMT)
Quick someone bring out the choke demon picture!!!!!!

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:31 PM (GMT)
15-40

Two break chances for Ljubo.

And he takes the first one. 4-5

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
5-5

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:38 PM (GMT)
Gasquet holds to love for 6-5.

MrInvisible - April 19, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
Crunch time by sounds of it...Gasquet needs a win against a big name player (although Ljubicic isn't perhaps the biggest name on clay). And Ljubicic will be fighting a fall down the rankings.

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
I just have a feeling that Gasquet is going to lose this one, despite the fact that his third set stats are much better than Ljubicic: higher first serve percentage, higher winning rate on both first and second serves, more than twice as many break chances . . .

And yet they're probably about to head to a tiebreak.

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
Having said that, though, Gasquet saves a game point to claw to deuce on Ivan's serve and then earns a match point.

Overrated I tell you!

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)
Long game here, with several deuce points . . .

Dark_Necrofear - April 19, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
Score please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:53 PM (GMT)
Gasquet earns a second match point, but can't convert and it's back to deuce again.

Nick Havoc - April 19, 2007 02:53 PM (GMT)

And its GSM to Gasquet 6-3 6-7 7-5

sounds like he took his time though! I was with those who thought he was going to throw it all away - and that was just reading through this thread!

MrInvisible - April 19, 2007 02:58 PM (GMT)
Whilst the squandering of match points is not good news for Gasquet fans, I think its good for him to get through tight matches like these - he tends to lose too many tight matches. Who's next for him at Monte Carlo?

Dark_Necrofear - April 19, 2007 03:00 PM (GMT)
Thank goodness he made it I thought THE GOD of CHOKE Coria was sitting on his shoulder!

Tenez - April 19, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
There is a very thin line between winning and losing. Gasquet has often ended on the wrong side of many matches and that certainly affected his confidence. There is no denying it. In fact he shoudl have won it in 2 and certainly have won that last one 6/3 as he was serving for the match at 5/3.

So as I said the other day, though he might be happy to have won a tight match, he still leaves the court with a bitter taste as he knows he still has a problem of closing matches. This can go away or it can - like Coria - amplify.

He needs to be running ahead comfortably and get in the habit of winning easily....as he woudl do on grass.

Having said all that I still believe in him and should beat Ferrero tomorrow.
