Title: Team GB
Description: Following Anne, Bally, Naomi and Claire

Russiafan - April 18, 2007 04:19 PM (GMT)
Great Britain defeated Bulgaria 3-0

Elena Baltacha bt. Dia Evtimova 4-6, 6-4, 8-6

Anne Keothavong bt. Tsvetana Pironkova (world number 86) 5-7, 6-4, 6-3

Baltacha/Curran bt Mladenova/Alawi 6-4, 6-2

Pool D: Bulgaria, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Poland

Poland have the Radwanska sisters whilst Luxumbourg has the veteran Kremer. Poland thrashed Luxumbourg 3-0 also.

It was a great win for Anne especially as a year earlier also on red clay Pironkova trashed her 6-1, 6-1. Hopefully the girls can cause some more upsets this week :D

Great win for GB especially on clay where they should struggle.

I can see them beating Luxumbourg but Poland will probably be too much for them.

It is quite difficult supporting the girls... I am actually pleasantly surprised by any win at all..... :) even more so on clay...

Aweomse Straight Rubbers Victory!

The Radwanska Sisters will be running Scared! :P

But i'm sure we can beat Luxemburg!

SerenaW19 - April 18, 2007 06:30 PM (GMT)
Very impressed especially Anne's win

They're not weighed down by any expectation, so can play with the freedom not usually shackling British sportsfolk.

Good win for them though.. bravo!!

I think that the Radwanska sisters would be a handful for most teams, and will certainly have too much class for team GB.

Here's hoping that they continue to acquit themselves well, and chalk up another win or two.. a win over Luxembourg perhaps?

GS2 - April 19, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
Not a good start for the GB Team against Luxembourg

R1 - M.MINELLA (LUX) def. N.CAVADAY (GBR)
4-6 7-6(2) 6-4

Now Keothavong is going to have to beat Kramer if we are to have any chance

GS2 - April 19, 2007 01:02 PM (GMT)
And it's all over for GB!

R2 - A.KREMER (LUX) def. A.KEOTHAVONG (GBR)
6-3 6-3

GS2 - April 19, 2007 01:05 PM (GMT)
Meanwhile Patty's poor form continues.

Romania 2 0 Switzerland
R1 - M.GOJNEA (ROU) def. T.BACSINSZKY (SUI)
6-4 6-3
R2 - I.OLARU (ROU) def. P.SCHNYDER (SUI)
4-6 6-2 6-4

She really should be too good for anyone playing at this level of Fed Cup (apart from Jankovic of course who's been winning her matches easily)

On clay as well :o Patty really does know how to screw up Switzerland's chances  roflmao

It's all over for Team GB - the girls havce gone down 2-0 against Poland, hopefully they can retain some dignity and win the dead doubles rubber.

Marta Domachowska bt Elena Baltacha 6-1, 6-4

Agnieszka Radwanska bt Naomi Cavaday 6-3, 6-2

On clay we had little chance against the Polish which is a shame, I think we were capable of beating Luxumbourg as Cavaday was a break up against Minella in the third set but couldn't keep her lead (inexperience showing?).

All in all though it's been an ok showing from the girls. The win over Bulgaria was great and with Poland in our pool qualifying was always going to be a stretch - still at least we didn't draw Serbia and suffer that potential bagel fest.
